Python script & recursive SQL?

I'm writing a Yahoo! like directory (with a few customizations) as part of learning Zope. Here's the setup: link table uses a integer key to refer back to the category. the category table has a pathto field in the form of ':1:2:3:' where 1, 2, and 3 are the category keys to each category above the one we are currenty looking at. ie Internet (1) : Servers (2) : Zope (3). Now, using a simple python script I can parse out the individual numbers from the pathto string. However, I've been having problems either returning the list back to zope to run my 'category_name' ZSQL methods on each element, or running 'category_name' directly from Python. I can't find how the python script returns a list like a ZSQL method would (I've looked in the Zope Book, searched zope.org, zdp.zope.org and did a Google search on 'zope python script list return') When I try to run the SQL method fom the Python script using context.category_name(catid) or context.category_name(catnum=catid) I get key errors. Please help! Uploading Images from a web from

Hi all, I have - I guess - a very basic problem. I want to upload a file through a web form. It is all still very basic. here is is my form: <form name="" action="galleries/uploadImage.dtml" enctype="multipart/form-data"> <div align="center"> <p> <input type="file" name="image" enctype="multipart/form-data"> </p> <p> <input type="submit" name="Button" value="upload"> </p> </div> </form> and this is the "uploadImage.dtml" Method: <dtml-call "manage_addImage('bild',image,'TEST')"> When I choose an Image on my Local HD and hit the "upload" button, all that happen is that I get a browser window with th URL "http://floundjan.homeip.net:13080/admin/galleries/uploadImage.dtml?image=C%…" (that depends on the file I chose, of course) But no Image is created in the Zope DB. If I press the reload button on that URL a image with the right ID and title is created, but it is empty (42 bytes). Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong? I already searched the mailing list archive and all I could find in the How-TOs. I even have the beehive Zope-Book, but couldn't find anything. Many, many thanks in advance... ZEO Install Problem

specifying a different default view than index_html

Is there a way to specify a different default for when a folder is viewed so that it doesn't use index_html? Here's the situation: I have a hierarchy of folders. I want everything except the root to share a common index_html. The root is special -- the entry to my site. I don't want people to have to type anything other than the path to the root folder to enter the site (though if there's no other way to do it, it won't be a big deal if they have to add a specific .html file to the path). When they enter the site, they should get a different view than the default index_html. So, I need a way to either change the default used by the root or the default used by everything else. I realize I can interpose another level of folder between the root and everything else, in order to store defaults I don't want shared by the root. I may do that if there are more defaults I don't want shared with the root, but right now index_html is the only one. I'd be interested in design suggestions regarding this issue as well as hints for mechanisms to use.

Using CVS with Zope (basic)

Hi all In the hope that it might be useful to someone else, here is how we use CVS and 'sitecopy' together with Zope. First, some background: our first need is simply to get all the relevant textual content in Zope onto the filesystem, so that multiple developers can work on it there using their text-processing tools of choice. Then of course we need to get the text back in. To do this, you need a good tool to automate the process. The best way I've found is Joe Orton's "sitecopy":http://www.lyra.org/sitecopy/ 1. Configure 'sitecopy' to: - exclude all the Zope objects that don't have a filesystem representation (such as SQL methods, SkinScript, external methods, MailHosts, Catalogs and so on). *Note*: while it is logical that some of these (such as external methods) don't have filesystem representation, others (such as SQL methods) simply lack PUT factories. - use the WebDAV source port (FTP access is a bit fragile). Because a 'sitecopy' site definition is single-rooted (you can't get files from different trees in Zope at once) you should define your 'sitecopy' sites for accessing your "App" directory (from the Zope root) and your ZClasses (in 'Control_Panel/Products/SomeName') seperately. 2. Use 'sitecopy' to pull down the site:: sitecopy --fetch app app_zclasses sitecopy --sync app app_zclasses To prevent 'sitecopy' from uploading *everything* next time you update, tell it that the local site is up to date:: sitecopy --catchup app app_zclasses 3. Import the site into CVS:: export CVSROOT=/path/to/your/repository cd ~/WORKINGDIR/app cvs import -m "Importing app" zope/app app start cd ~/WORKINGDIR/app_zclasses cvs import -m "Importing app_zclasses" zope/app_zclasses app_zclasses start Remove your working directory and check it out from CVS:: cd ~ rm -r WORKINGDIR cvs checkout zope/app cvs checkout zope/app_zclasses 4. Edit away:: cd ~/zope/app gvim (edit away ..) Whenever you want to make your edits active in Zope, do:: sitecopy --update app Once you are satisfied that something is working, check it into CVS. 5. Adding Zope objects. Since Zope creates DTML Documents for all textfiles uploaded, unless the file is uploaded to an existing object, adding needs to be done thru the ZMI. When you have created your object, fetch it via FTP and add it to CVS:: ftp zopehost > cd dir > lcd dir > get newMethod > bye cvs add dir/newMethod (It would be really great if there were some way, for example via a header block such as the '##data' section at the start of a Python script, to describe new objects on the filesystem so that the right object is automatically created when they're uploaded.) 6. Don't make any important changes using the ZMI. From now on, the authoritative source is the copy on the filesystem. Any TTW changes will be overwritten (if it was checked out) or forgotten (if it wasn't checked out and added to CVS control). Use the ZMI for quick experimentation, as far as code changes are concerned. Note: this method works fine on Linux, and on Windows if you use the "Cygwin tools":http://www.cygwin.com . 'sitecopy' is easy to compile under Cygwin. I hope this helps someone! Regards, Jean

Zope / Apache conflict

Hello, We are trying to install Zope on a server that is running Apache on port 80 and Apache-SSL on 8080. We set Zope to run on 8088, but as long as the 8080 port is in use by SSL, Zope just hangs. Recommendations: dynamically link glossary terms in Catalog indexes??

I am perplexed on where to start with this solution... Has anyone seen this type of problem? maybe in a product already? I have a zClass(Glossary of terms) and another zClass of Technical Procedures. Is there a way to dynamically find every instance of a glossary term in a Technical Procedure and the make the term a hotlink to its instance in the Glossary(do a pop-up, make it the alt tag...whatever) A concern is speed, so I guess this cant be real-time, maybe cached or something? Is this a search and replace function...which I havent seen documented anywhere? Any help or suggestions to approach this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for feedback (or pushing me off the cliff...) ;) -Trevor **I am inspired to contribute this as my first how-to if we can solve it.
