Question: Virtual Site Hosting on Zope

I know this will be an easy question for this mailing list... Is there generally considered to be a 'best way' of doing Virtual Site Hosting on Zope? I have skimmed some HOWTOs on www.zope.org, but I am afraid the material may be a bit dated and a 'better way' may be generally known. Any help would be appreciated! Mike

Site Error (still)

"Site Error An error was encountered while publishing this resource. Unauthorized You are not authorized to access this resource. No Authorization header found. Traceback (innermost last): [....] Unauthorized: (see above)" ============================= In case it makes a difference, Apache is running name virtual hosts. I think that i've followed all of the instructions but am stumped. I used zpasswd to generate a new master pw -- also tried directly editing the 'access' file (is there a difference?). The user ID matches an .htaccess authorized user so that ought not be a problem. All was installed from the FreeBSD ports collection including: apache-1.3.20. using .htaccess for authorization. zope-2.4.0_1 python-2.1.1, mod_fastcgi-2.2.10 mod_php3-3.0.18_2 mod_php4-4.0.6_4, mysql-server-3.22.32 I have installed, reinstalled, broken and re-reinstalled various elements without stumbling onto success. What am I missing here? Thanks, craig

IMO one can agree it's python, or disagree. I can assure you that knowing python definitly helps. If you get enough knowledge of python (not too much needed) you can start glancing through zope's source - and combining that with the API-doc you get slowly a feeling of how zope itself is structured, where to look ... The third chapter of Dieter's book helps me a lot to get an idea about the why's and how's. See also Dieter's docfinder product. pythong product container

I am struggling with developing a python product. I can find a few reasonable examples of simple products. But I cant find any examples of products that contain other products. I have previously used ZClasses and by nesting them I can easily create products that are only available within a specific product. I wish to do the same in a python product (at least three levels deep). Can anyone point me to some good documentation, or at least to a good example. Thanks Tom

Question about ZCatalog

Hello all, I'm just writing my first major Zope website, and I'm stuck with a (probably easy) question. My site consists of dtml-documents, ZSAL methods that access an Oracle database and some Local File Systems (using LocalFS). I want to add an option that enables the users to search through all this contents. My question now is: is ZCatalog the way to go, or do I need something else? I know I can use ZCatalog to search through the objects in the ZODB, but I'm not sure if you can use it to search through the results of ZSQLMethods or Local File Systems... If ZCatalog is the way to go, do I need to take care of special stuff? What I'm most concerned about are the LocalFS (as they are over 600MB of raw data). Kind regards, Pieter

finding out where a (property) value was acquired from

Is there a way to find out where a value (specifically a property value, but the answer's probably not dependent on that) is acquired from? I have a hierarchy of folders, with some properties set in high-level folders that apply to all the folders below them. Sometimes an action needs to change these values, but they should change in the folder they were acquired from not the current folder. Is there something built-in to Zope that gives me the folder a value (or a property) was acquired from? Or do I simply have to walk the path back towards the root to find it?

Strange CookieCrumbler problem

I just started using CookieCrumbler and it works well with the following exception: 1) I access a protected document and the login form is shown. 2) I attempt to login, but use an invalid username/password so it will fail. 3) At the failure screen, instead of clicking "try again", I attempt to access the protected document directly again. 4) Then, instead of getting the login form as I expect, my browser's basic auth window pops up. 5) If I then log in with basic auth and logout using manage_zmi_logout, my next attempt to access the protected document still brings up the basic auth window instead of the form. The only way I found to get back to the cookie auth is to restart my browser. :-( Is this a bug in CookieCrumbler? _______________________ Ron Bickers Logic Etc, Inc.

DTML-WITH Problem

Hi all, I am (again) having a newbie problem here. I want to create the attribute for the <DTML-WITH> tag dynamically. My Document looks like this until now: ------------- <dtml-call "REQUEST.set ('working_folder', 'galleries.'+gallery_id)"> <dtml-with working_folder> <dtml-in expr="objectValues('Image')" sort=bobobase_modification_time reverse> <dtml-var title><BR> </dtml-in> </dtml-with> -------------- I think it is pretty clear what I do. My Picture-Galleries are subfolders of the "galleries" folder and I try to access them by invoking the "working_folder". This just doesnt_work. If I do for example <DTML-WITH "galleries.gallery1"> instead of <DTML-WITH working_folder> it works fine. So I think it must be something about the format of "working_folder". So I think I need to cast it somehow. But how? Or maybe there is a totally different and easier way to accomplish this? Retaining file name in <input type=file...

Hi, I have a form with a bunch of text boxes and a file browser. I have a Python function which scans the file selected and fills in the text boxes with the result when you press the appropriate action button. Then with the text boxes filled in for you, you just press the submit button. Problem: the selected file name has disappeared. I acheive filling in the text boxes in the Python function by using... REQUEST.set("description", what_i_want_to_go_in_it). Each text box in the DTML form looks something like this... <textarea name="description" cols="55" rows="4" wrap="virtual"> <dtml-var expr="REQEST.get('description','')" html_quote></textarea> This works OK, the problem is I would like the file name to stay put when I come back to it. It keeps comming back with a blank box right now. This is the present DTML... <input type="file" name="file" size="40" value="<dtml-var expr="REQUEST.get('file',')" html_quote>" ...and in the Python function... REQUEST.set('file', REQUEST.file) ...and I have also tried... REQUEST.set('file.filename', REQUEST.file.filename) ...neither of which works. Any suggestions on how to preserve the file name would be most welcome. Regards, Simon B.
