ZClass derived from Folder, quick question

I have a ZClass that is derived from the Folder object. The product loads into Zope correctly, the meta_type shows up, the manage_add form comes up and loads the object into Zope correctly. However, when I click on the hyperlink to the folder-derived object, I cannot paste objects into it. All it has is the Import/Export button. Not cut, copy, paste, rename, etc. Even when I have objects in the Zope clipboard, the paste button is still not visible/available. Is there some trick to getting this capability? TIA, Ron

When Does ODB Run Out of Steam?

I have a client who has an application he wants me to build. I'm going to use Zope. The question is whether I should use the built-in object database or an SQL database. I _vastlly_ prefer the former; I tend to think in objects. Each client object in the system has potentially 350 separate properties. These are entered, reported, and managed through a series of about 12 forms. Some of the forms can be used by the client to create multiple entries of the same type. I can see exactly how to architect this. But my question -- which I can't seem to find an answer to -- is whether there's a practical limit (or a built-in limit) on the number of properties an object can/should have in the Zope built-in object database. (I'm using MetaPublisher to create the interface and the objects if that makes any difference, though I'd be OK with not using it if it turned out that it had a limit.) -- Hire a world-class ghostwriter to create your entire information product line! GUF & SQL login problems

Hi, I want to set up not-encrypted SQL login, using GenericUserFolder README, a walkthrough and GUF_SQL_crypt howto. After I installed GUF and created GUF-protected folder (i.e. before I made the changes described in GUF_SQL_crypt howto), I was able to log in as jorge:secret. After I made the changes, and try to login using correct username and password, the login dialog always reappears. Login is not possible. There are two things that I had to do differently than described in GUF_SQL_crypt howto: 1) The GenericUserFolder as installed did not flush. It complained about "safty value checkbox". But the manage_cache.dtml was using radiobutton instead of checkbox. So I patched it to use checkbox, and it flushed correctly. 2) I changed the change_password_report, because I do not want to use crypt. But since it is not called when I simply try to login, it should not matter. Anyway, here are my changes: I changed line: <dtml-if "_.crypt.crypt(password,'ab')==_['sequence-item'].real_password"> to this: <dtml-if "password==_['sequence-item'].real_password"> and also I changed this line: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('password',_.crypt.crypt(first_password,'ab'))"> to this: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('password',first_password)"> -- Milos Prudek

Internal reference between objects saved in ZODB gets lost?

If I create two objects and saves them with 'setObject' any references between objects is lost. Is that true? Simple stoopid non-working code example:: class test: def __init__(self, id, otherObject=None): self.id = id self.otherObject= otherObject class table(ObjectManager): def __init__(self): object1 = test('1') object2 = test('2', object1) self._setObject('1') self._setObject('2', object2) Do I have to save a reference to another persistent object as an objectManager id instead? Like this: class test: def __init__(self, id, otherObject=None): self.id = id self.otherObject= otherObject class table(ObjectManager): def __init__(self): object1 = test('1') object2 = test('2', '1') self._setObject('1') self._setObject('2', object2) Saving the reference directly is so much easier. But apparantly I get into trouble when I try to. I could save all my data structure in a dict or somesuch structure. This keeps the references intact. But I guess that i will get a nasty growth in Data.fs whenever the object is changed. At least until a packing of the database. Something like:: number of objects * size pr object * times changed This could probebly be a real problem if the object had a size of 500 MBs in all and lots of changes. file upload from python script

Hi, I'm trying to do a file upload from inside a python script that takes the file's path and the target folder object as args. When I try manage_addFile or manage_upload, the content of the new Zope-file is the path of the file I wanted to upload and not the file itself. File upload works fine from a DTML-Method which takes the file's path (and something more I think) from a DTML-Document using a <input type="file">-tag. I found them somewhere in the internet and I'll list them below in case they'll help you helping me. MetaPublisher 1.2.4

Hi, I installed the Metapublisher successfully. But trying to follow the steps in the manual, I get an error when I try to create a MetaPublisher in my folder. Error Type: NameError Error Value: global name 'string' is not defined In the form I gave it the ID 'Guest' and the title 'Guest Book' and clicked Add. Can anybody help? TIA Frank

Sniff XML-RPC calls

I'm developing a thing that calls my server via XML-RPC. Everything works fine and all, but now I would like to go a bit more verbose by seeing all the XML strings that are being sent. How can I do that? (pretty newbie to XML-RPC on Zope) peter
