Hi Jeff, can't tell you what prevents your method from doing what you want, but I can tell you what I did what worked in a similar situation. I use a python script to build the query string and just call that method via dtml-var, i.e. select * from table where <dtml-var my_script> the script looks like for s in context.REQUEST['my_dict']: query = query + "column LIKE '%" + s + "%'\n OR \n" query = query + '1=2' return query Just make sure that all the variables you need are in REQUEST. Maybe someone else has a more elegant or cleaner way of doing things. cheers, oliver PS: nice trick with that 1=2, tho

ZOracleDA-beta5 problem; possible bug running NT

Hello, I'm running; Zope 2.3.2 (binary release, python 1.5.2, win32-x86) Yesterday i installed ZoracleDA-beta5 after having run the alfa5 for some time. After installing the update I noticed that things were not what they should or even used to be. Problem one. This was there with the alfa-version. If you encounter a null value in the datbase zope returns the value None under NT. At least if it is an integer field. I tried to work around this by using NVL(field,0) where field is an integer. When the database value is null zope responds 0.0 under NT! Performing the same trick direcly in the Oracle DB and the answer is 0 like it should be. OK, so I try a simple workaround by using ROUND(NVL(field,0),0) which should give the answer 0. The answer is still 0.0, in addition all non-null values gets a decimal ending! Some time ago i fiddled with an zope-on-linux installation where the null value provide by zope was 0. Solutions, explanations or workarounds anyone? Problem two. New with beta5!!! Integer field value changed from 12108 to 12108L. This happens for some of of my integer fields but not for all. is zope a solution?

Hi, I've recently discovered zope and have the feeling that it may be the solution to a pending application issue. However, I've worked through the tutorial and I guess I'm no wiser than before, and it didn't really convince me either way; possibly leading me to believe it's aimed at small site solutions. Anyway, I have a project that will need to allow around 10,000 users (or less) to access at least a million documents. Each user is grouped into one of a small handful of access levels (determined by cookies). The documents are pre-existing PDFs, spreadsheet et al. I.e. they're all static. A solution along the lines of a standard cgi based bespoke application isn't particularly taxing from a programming point of view, but clearly wouldn't offer what I believe to be the potential of zope with it's prebuilt goodies. So, I'm wondering whether zope is up to the task (reliability and scalability), or whether I'm misunderstanding something. Any observations would be most welcome. Thanks, Tony

ZODBC connection in NT

I finally got my zope to start as a service in NT and now all my Z ODBC connections are broken. Probably because they were defined as user DSNs. So I redefined them as System DSNs and now they all return "invalid connection string". Is there a trick to this? I'm running zope 2.2.2 (previous 2.1.6) with postgres/PoPy as a loginmanager backend for an extranet with 500 users. And zope 2.3.3 for a low traffic portal where all the content comes from postgres and is updated via foxpro/odbc by the client. Both run without any problem since about 10 months - the zopes were update since then. One minor thing with Zpopyda is that I'm not quite sure about which and how the different versions of postgres/popy/zpopy/zope will work together and so updating postgres on a server with multiple zopes using zpopyda could get a bit of a headache. I like postgres very much, so I'm not neutral, but anyway, some advocacy might be in order. There's virtually no limitation of field sizes in postgres 7.1 btw (64 TB table size, 1GB field size, 1600 cols/table ;-) ) > (kinda OT for Zope, but which has the better full-text search capability?) Do you mean fast or flexible? With postgres you can do regexps on text-fields for flexibility, and for speed there is a fulltext tool in the contrib directory of the postgres source. It works in form of a trigger, and uses the same method as zope's catalog (inverted text indexes + stopwords) - I haven't used it myself, though. cheers, oliver
