Corrupt ZODB on W2k

A client of mine insisted in running Zope on Win2k, so I installed Zope 2.3.4 (some time ago) on their server and also a few products/sites I built for them. The machine has been running now for about 8 months. They don't change much, but it is relatively heavily loaded. They pack the ZODB monthly and backup regularly. On two occasions in the past 8 months, we have noticed very peculiar permissions problems. Several months ago, all of a sudden, several of the users could no longer access the ZMI. Also sections of the site returned permissions errors for no reason. Sometimes specific DTML methods simply refused to display with permissions errors. After many hours of investigating we found no possible logic to this. I then exported the entire ZODB and re-imported it all into a fresh ZODB. All was fine again. Now, several months later the same problem has re-appeared. Again they get weird permissions errors on certain objects, but no real logic or pattern to the errors. Creating new users does not always work. Old users get locked out. Some DTML methods will not work. It looks very much like the ZODB simply gets corrupt over time. I can fix this by exporting-importing again, but I am wondering if anybody else has any experience of a similar problem or solution? Tom

Removing product

Hello everybody. Ive upgraded from zope 2.4.0 to zope 2.4.3. I dont know if this information is useful. My problem is that I want to modify a product (a very simple one). First I installed a product with a typing error (it was my fault) so it appear as a broken product. When I try to correct it, Zope didnt recognized the changes when I restart zope (I used all possible ways). So I try removing and reinstalling it: I do this removing the folder of the product from : website/lib/python/Products/ then I restart zope (all possible ways). In this case the product still appear as a broken product with the same error. This is really crazy because the file doesnt exist at this time. So I try another method removing the product from the management interface. In this case the product disappear. But when I copy the new version of my product (without error) to website/lib/python/Products/ zope doesnt recognized the product (it has the same name). I think the problem appear when I try to remove a product. Any suggestions? Thanks Martin

CMF Portal Folder Permissions Don't Work.

Hi, Has anybody else had this problem, and do you have a fix? CMF-1.1 and Zope 2.3.2 If I have a Portal Folder "fred" which is a subfolder of Portal Folder "bert" and I take off "Access" and "View" permissions for user Anonymous on "bert", then anonymous users can still access any contents in bert or fred even though they shouldn't be able to. To stop them accessing the contents, I have to take the permission also off each individual document in the folder. It seems like the inheritance for Portal Folders permissions is not working. However, if I do the same thing, but with a normal "Folder" then it works as it should do. Can anyone shed any light on this? They are packing manually from the ZMI, so I dont think that is it, but you have just reminded me that they are also backing up the ZODB nightly from a batch script, by copying the ZODB to another location. Perhaps this could be the problem - a conflict at the time of reading??. Apologies.> Milos, I have not experienced this problem nor has a few of the others who tested the site. iMeme - who we use for hosting - uses Apache as the web server in front of Zope and ZEO for load balancing. What browser are you using (I have tested under Netscape 6.2 and IE 5.5)? Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? Thanks for the feedback. Single form, multiple classes

I am trying to dig a little deeper into Zope's capabilities and have created sample multiple classes to handle company, account, contract and billing information, for example. Since you could have multiple accounts for one company and multiple contracts per account and so on. How can I use one entry form to handle parsing the data to multile DB files? Is this something that can done in DTML or will I have write a python script? The example I'm playing with is as follows: CompanyInfo class AccountInfo class ContractInfo class BillingInfo class -- Michael Lewis "The early bird may get the worm--- but the second mouse gets the cheese"

case sensative url?

Hi, Can it be true that URL's are case sensative?? I have just created a sample ZClass of type Project, and an instance named FHK. FHK resides in folders Projects. Hence, the URL is http://localhost:8080/Projects/FHK/ which works as expected. But, if i change it to http://localhost:8080/Projects/fhk, i get the following error. Do you know why http://groups.yahoo.com/group/zOpE/ works as well as http://groups.yahoo.com/group/zope, but http://groups.yahoo.com/Group/zope doesn't work at all? I don't know that it matters; i'm just curious. i'll make all my products lower case for consistency.
