external method vs product?

I've got a process on my zope site that involves retrieving external web pages, manipulating them, and returning them to the client. The current implementation of this uses external methods. However, I notice that there's a large time-overhead involved in what I guess must be the python process starting up. If I switch these to regular products, will that overhead still exist, or should I expect (relatively) instant response? I'm running on win32. There's another process that involves loading a dll to perform some database retrievals and statistical operations. In the python interpreter, it doesn't have any trouble at all. As an external method, it seems to enjoy restarting zope most (but not all) of the time. Could I possibly hope for better behavior if it's turned into a regular product? ---------- Keith J. Hello Ben, thanks for your help. The code peace works only if an image is available. Otherwise it will result in an error: Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: KeyError Error Value: theme_c_auf_einen_blick.gif But i need the <dtml-else> case. If an image is not available, the code has to give back an default image. inserting content of an url with a dtml tag

Hi, I'm just wondering if it's possible to insert a content of an url (within a zope site) with a dtml-var tag or something. The problem is I need to call a dtml-method (that I can properly access only calling its url with a web browser) from a dtml-document. I tried with REQUEST.resolve_url, but with no luck. Sorry - resend: verifying existence

Greetings, I am trying to figure out how a page can tell if it exists or is displayed using acquisition. For example, say /index_html exists, but /services/index_html, and /products/index_html do not. If a user goes to the url, http://www.mysite.com/services I want to do something like: <dtml-with "currentDirectory.aq_explicit" only> <dtml-if "thisPage exists"> do something </dtml-if> Thanks, Steve

"ElementWithAttributes" in result of absolute_url() (urgent)

I have created a python product which is a wrapper to the DTMLDocument class. I do overwrite the getProperty method because when properties are asked for from the object I pick the right ones depending on some other variables. Everything is working nicely except the absolute_url() method (which I don't override). Doing...: object = context.contentcontainerObject print object.absolute_url() print object.title_or_id() return printed Expected result: http://zigurat:8180/Projects/galdrionweb/omgaldrion/contentcontainerObject "The correct Title" Actual result: http://zigurat:8180/Projects/galdrionweb/omgaldrion/ElementWithAttributes "The correct Title" Does anybody know why this is? If you need for information I can give you that of course, but at the moment I have no idea what information I need to tell to solve this. Best regards, Peter PS. There seems to be no better result if I cross out the getProperty method.

ZSyncer thoughts

ZSyncer is already great at this stage for syncing two Zope instances. IMHO many people would like these features: - Ability to sync ZClasses. Right now, ZSyncer gives intimidating errors when entering ZClasses. - Ability to only sync certain metatypes, such as [dtml-methods, Python Scripts, ZSQL methods]. When you need to update a live site where majority of ZODB contents are DTML documents and instances of ZClasses that were created by live site visitors, you don't want to disturb that. You only want to sync methods and scripts. (additional advantage would be a significant speedup. The time that ZSyncer takes to scan the Zope root is quite significant over regular 40kbit modem connection. -- Milos Prudek

This works for me. loadVariablesNum and getURL are the key. Is there a better way? This seems to require two zope steps, when it should be one...
