I know it add complexity, but it seems prudent to rely on the knowledge and well understand code behind apache to use it as a front end http server for zope (that, along with keeping the ssl certs and setup in one place). I am wondering how many are using apache with zope -- guessing that the connection is the fastcgi-mod -- But if there are other methods I'm interested as well. Strange thing with old zope instance...

Hi, This is weird. I'm looking in an 'old' created zope site. It is running on Zope 2.4.1 . The strange thing is that I can't find 2 product objects in the object list, while when I go to the product list page, they are shown as correct installed products and the site is using these products without a problem, but I'm not able to add new objects of these types, since I can't find them in the object list. Somebody an idea what can be wrong? Where I can look for? Tom.

DTML within DTML?

I'm trying to set up a dynamic redirect, and I can't figure out the syntax. Given there's a variable called 'record_id', and I have a page called 'edit' which takes a parameter called 'r_id', here's the redirect statement I'd like to use: <dtml-call expr="RESPONSE.redirect('edit?r_id=record_id')"> I need the record_id field to be evaluated, but the rest to be used literally. Dear Zope Users, Developers and Zope Support, Let me introduce myself first. I am Raj, webmaster for International Water Management Institute (IWMI) . We are in the process of automating our workflow and document flow for our website and intranet. The solution is a Content management server. We are an International Scientific Research Organization ( Non Governmental Org ) researching on Water Management issues. I have extensively studied a couple of content management servers and at last shortlisted two. One is Zope and the other one is Interwoven's Teamsite. Interwoven's team site boasts of a hybrid system that is both data-base driven and static document content. But as far as I have studied if I am not mistaken Zope doesnt support a hybrid solution. Its only database driven. We have already build the website up and running ( www.iwmi.org) and in the process of building our intranet. The website consists of about 6,000 to 7,000 html pages. So when it comes to migration issues to Zope, does Zope support these static documents as it is ? And does Zope support XML templating ? And does Zope support file management concepts ? And can we use Zope with Adobe Framemaker ? Other than these 4 issues I am completely satisfied with the product. Please clarify as soon as possible. I manage all my sites remotely, and as soon as I made my user with a Owner and Manager role, it all worked. Might have had to close and restart the browser, but nothing more drastic than that. Traps for the unwary...

Just thought I'd mention in passing... no need for responses or navel gazing. :) We have two identical Zope envts on different OS platforms. (python 2.1.2, gcc 2.95.3, Zope 2.5.0 on openBSD 3.0 and Solaris 8) We migrated a Zope DTML application from Solaris systems (where it worked fine on 3 different Zope instances) to two openBSD systems. An obscure bit of "superfluous" DTML code caused lib/python/DTML.py to crash. Of course, when using ProxyPass method, it caused Zope itself to crash, but if we used FastCGI or port 8080, then it just failed... The offending code (marked *) <dtml-if sequence-end> * <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('span', (5 - (_.int(_.getitem('sequence-number')) % 4)) )"> * <dtml-if "_.getitem('span') > 4"><dtml-call "REQUEST.set('span', 1)"></dtml-if> <dtml-else> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('span', 1)"> </dtml-if> then fixed with: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('span', 1 )"> <dtml-if "_.getitem('span') > 4"><dtml-call "REQUEST.set('span', 1)"></dtml-if> In hindsight, the programmer qualifies this with: "ok.. but be prepared for some abuse about the shitty code.. I don't remember what I was thinking at the time and I could not understand what I was doing when I read it back.. that is generally a sign of bad code :)" We're all still learning.... :) I was just surprised (read "horrified", since it was production) that some DTML appln code would crash Zope itself. ZSQL question

Hi, all. I have a ZSQL insert function that requires an optional parameter. The variables are coming from an HTML form, and one of the variables is a checkbox. Apparently, if the checkbox is unchecked, the variable doesn't appear. As a small example, let's say there were two strings and a checkbox, labelled str1, str2 and cb. I need this: insert into mytable(col1, col2, col3) values (str1, str2, cb) as well as insert into mytable(col1, col2) values (str1, str2) if cb is None. I can't find any examples of optional insert variables, just optional join parameters. Also - is there a comprehensive ZSQL document anywhere?
