Security and document library product

Hi there I am currently implementing the document library product on Zope/CMF and have a security question. I have a number of different types of users who should have differing access to the Document Library. There are anonymous users, content authors and content managers. I would want anyone (anonymous or otherwise) to be able to look at, search and browse the library and I have achieved this. I would want the authors to also be able to submit documents and this I can also get working At a third level I would like content managers to be able to review submitted documents but can't seem to implement this level of security. I have followed the Document Library documentation and set-up the security as it says but this still doesn't seem to give content managers the right to review. Probably something I am or am not doing. Any help, ideas gratefully received. Thanks. David.

sequence.sort: how can I sort strings?

Hi! How can I sort a sequence of STRINGS using sequence.sort? I don't know what to use as a "key"... (I tried self, str, value, '', _.None, ....... :-)) Or in other words: What's the attribute of a string that returns the string itself? thanks, Danny

Where is Oracle ZODB storage ? Large file support in NT 4 ?

I would like to move my ZODB to a DBMS (probably Oracle) Goals: - Get around the 2 gigs limit in NT4. - Speed up data access. Questions: - Where can I find Oracle ZODB Storage ? - Where could I find compiled Python with enabled larges files support ? - How can I speed up data access in a large ZODB ? Can ZEO speed things up if only used on one multiple processors server ? Ho, one final thing... ZOPE really rock !!!! :)) Jeff

Quite the opposite. Zope is at a big crossroads right now. We have Zope 3 in development and a backing company whose stated aim is to grow Zope 10x over the next year. It can go one of two ways; if we can all work together with integrity I reckon we can make Zope into a world class product and very lucrative market. Problem displaying products icons with virtualhostmonster

Hi, product icons are displayed in the management-view with a tag like: <img src="/Control_Panel/Products/MyProduct/MyFolder/ziconImage alt="MyFolder" title="MyFolder" border="0" /> If I do virtualhosting with VHM, I have no access to the /Control_Panel, and I don't want to grant it. Zope Icons are accessed like this: <img src="/misc_/OFSP/Folder_icon.gif" alt="Folder" title="Folder" border="0" /> where I can grant access to the "/misc_" folder. Any suggestions to solve this ? Page Templates + python script example fromThe Zope Book

Hello all, I am trying to get the "interest rate calculator" example from chapter 3 of the Zope Book to work. I created an interestRateForm page template, an interestRateDisplayTemplate, and a python script, as described in the chapter (the code was copied directly from the book and is listed at the bottom of this email for reference). When I try to use the example by pointing my browser at the interestRateForm URL(this displays correctly), I give it some values as requested, then click the calculate button. The error I get is Error Type: Undefined Error Value: years not found in 'years', at line 5, column 6 If I comment out the first line referring to the "years" variable, ie  Then I get the slightly different but probably related error Error Type: TALESError Error Value: exceptions.NameError on global name 'principal' is not defined in '', at line 6, column 8 ie referring now to the spot in the interestRateDisplay template where the python script is actually called, with "principle" being the first argument to it. As far as I can guess, these variables are not being correctly passed from the interestRateForm template to the interestRateDisplay template. I haven't reaally been able to find anything explicit about how variables are passed between page templates, how the namespace works, etc. I tried to have a look at the REQUEST object, I inserted it using <span tal:content="request"> dummy request </span> I realise there must be a better way to do this , since this prints out a godawful mess full of html tags, however i *was* able to see that the various variables were there in the request object, ie: h3>form</h3><table><tr valign="top" align="left"><th>principal</th><td>10000.0</td></tr><tr valign="top" align="left"><th>periods Does anyone have any clues as to what I need to do next to make it work? Setting up a dedicated Zope box

I'm going to be setting up a Zope server soon for a public web site. The server will also be running mySQL and possibly Apache. What Operating System is recommended both from the point of view of ease of Zope installation and also stability/performance etc? Finally, what would be considered a minimum spec for such a server? DTML namespace from Python Script

I could've sworn I saw the answer to this at one point, but now I can't find it: How can I access the "_" namespace in a Python Script? E.g., within a DTML Method I can use "_.SecurityGetUser()" to get the current authenticated user, but I've tried a lot of different versions in a Python Script and none of them seems to work: SecurityGetUser() _.SecurityGetUser() context.SecurityGetUser() and so on. It seems to me that I *ought* to be able to use the same calling convention in either DTML Python expressions or within a Python script. Curiously the first choice above would seem to be implied by the use of Python "builtins" such as "int()", which is refered to as "_.int()" within DTML. But I've tried it -- it doesn't work here, I just get an attribute error. It's this kind of "except on Tuesday" design that really frustrates me about Zope, in case any developers are tuned in! I could go on, but it would just be a rant. Anyone know the arcane incantation I'm supposed to use for this? Any pointers appreciated! Thanks! Simpler way to change ZCataloged ZClass property?

To change a property of a ZClass, where the ZClass instance must be located using ZCatalog, I'm using this Python Script: for i in context.Catalog_Org(userid=666): rid=i.data_record_id_ obj=context.Catalog_Org.getobject(rid) obj.propertysheets.data.manage_changeProperties(userid="777") It works well. But is this the "right" way? It feels rather convoluted to me... I'd like to know if the above can be done in fewer lines, or in a less computationally expensive way. -- Milos Prudek

Question on Perl , PHP in Zope (UVM etc)

Hi, When Zope runs, the Python interpreter is running the code, so far so good. But it is also possible to script Zope with Perl, so I was wondering if a new instance of the Perl interpreter is launched every time (as with the PHP Product) or if the Perl interpreter is "linked in" and reused ? If it is reused/linked, why can't the same be done for PHP ? It seems that a Universal Virtual Machine (UVM) would be ideal to allow mixing languages, right ? This way you have a common runtime (like .NET) and no need to restart a different interpreter or fight different memory models or anything. (It does not have to be .NET, something like www.smallscript.com would do too - not sure if there's any solid Open Source UVM out there, though) thanks in advance for your feedback, marcio
