Hi, Thanks to Z.org (DC) I compiled DCOracle2 on a sun machine with Zope-2.4.1 and the result is there ;-) I did a connection to an Oracle instance (8.1.7) of my machine and an another a local network machine hosting the same kind of installation. The connection were realize from the first one. It was really difficult to catch the right information on Zope.org and related mailing-lists, howtos, etc. 2 or 3 adaptaters were proposed in Products panel but only DCOracle2 gave me the power to connect me rapidly !! The others DA mixed with DCOracle2 or DCOracle gave me troubles in their explanations and their explanations again. Is DCOracle2 really suffisant to work fully with Oracle or do I need an anther Adpatator Product ? FR

Pystones & Zope Performance

For all concerned: Pystones are an excellent predictor of Zope performance. The pystone program is typically located in $PYTHONPATH/tests/pystone.py -- you run this with your favorite version of Python to get an indicator of how fast your particular system can process Python instructions. Here's a few sample systems I use, all using Python 2.1 as a benchmark python: Intel Celeron 400: 4651 pystones [11.63 * Mhz] UltraSPARC IIe 500: 5556 pystones [11.11 * Mhz] Intel Celeron 500: 5714 pystones [11.43 * Mhz] PowerPC G4 500: 6289 pystones [12.58 * Mhz] Intel Celeron 500: 6849 pystones [13.69 * Mhz] (optimized Python) Intel Pentium III 1Ghz: 12048 pystones [12.05 * Mhz] AMD Athlon XP 2000+: 25756 pystones [15.67 * Mhz, 12.88 * Rating] (ActiveState python) Note that this isn't a very highly scientific sampling; I haven't done lots of averaging and smoothing and data washing, etc. Pystones are pretty closely tied to clock speed (duh!) but are perturbed by CPU and compiler. I tend to accept a figure of roughly 12 * Mhz as a fairly accurate predictor of Python performance. Zope, being an enormous Python program, is highly sensitive to how fast Python can interpret. Thus, you'll find that Zope speeds scale up with CPU speeds. It is probably worth pointing out that the architecture of the CPU isn't nearly as dominant as its clock speed; a UltraSPARC or a PowerPC G4 does not perform much differently than a Pentium or Athlon. It also shows (for you Athlon fans out there) that the Athlon marketing number is fairly accurate with respect to the equivalent Intel performance, i.e. Athlons get about 22% more work done per clock than a Pentium III -- I don't have any Pentium IVs around to test with. I doubt any of this is earth shattering news. The primary conclusion I would draw from this is that you want to optimize clock rate over any other factor for good Zope performance. When considering fitting Zope to various vendor hardware, consider the cost per cycle; SPARC suffers here considerably. -- Matt Kromer Zope Corporation http://www.zope.com/

Hi, I'm looking at the HTMLWithImages.py file in the StructuredText folder. Now, in the document method, I can see if hasattr(doc, 'key'): Now, I know what this code means, but I do not know how to put 'key' in the structured text so that it will be used by the parser... Anybody an idea? thanks, Tom.

ZSQL Method result fields names?

Hello all, Suppose I have ZSQL Method called SelectCustomers: ----- select * from Customers ----- In my Python script I have: ----- Result = context.SelectCustomers ----- I can get values from Result: Result[recordIND][fieldIND] But how can I get the names of fields in Result (suppose I don't know the structure of Customers table)? Problem with Simple Python Product

Hi, I'm writing a simple Python Product, following the lines of two well known examples (Poll and Minimal). The Product imports fine, but when I try do add an instance to a Folder, thus accessing http://localhost:9673/tests/manage_addProduct/Work/addPerson Zope ask for authentication (I'm already in the ZMI). The product is very simple: __init__.py initialize... IPerson.py class IPerson (interface) TPerson.py class TPerson (implementation) Person.py class Person (Zope class) and more The only difference I see with the Poll example is that I seperate the pure Python class (than should be usable out of Zope) from the "Zope" one, and the fact that I do not declare any security stuff (but Minimal does the same). It is not clear to me which methods of the Person should eventually get security declarations. I suppone only does that will be called "through the Web", so, for example, the constructor will not need them. I also suppose that the security info for the Person.age method, that is inherited from TPerson.age, could be declared in Person.py like security.declarePublic ('age') Anyway I think the stuff should work even without security (or not?). Problems with LocalFS again

Hello! Last tim I forgot to include the traceback in the mail, sorry for that ... I try to add an LocalFS Object with an python-product. The warnings about the global name 'datum' are gone now when I press the submit button: i get a blank screen, which is much more user-friendly. ZGDChart refresh

Hi all! I'm showing a ZGDChart in a page. The chart obtains the data from a DTML Method, but even if the data change the chart doesn't. I mean that even if I show that page with other parameters, the chart is always the same (the first it showed). It seems like there is a problem with the cache and it doesn't refresh the chart.
