I am pleased to announce the first release candidate of TextIndexNG V 1.0. TextIndexNG is a pluggable index for the ZCatalog that enhances the full text indexing capabilities of Zope by providing the following features: * support for document converters (HTML, PDF, WinWord, PowerPoint, Postscript). Custom converters can be easily added * stemmer support for 12 languages * support for right truncation * similarity search (soundex, metaphone support) (for english) * NEAR search * phrase search * pluggable query parsers (two parsers included) * stop words support * new test tab for interactive testing * 2-3 times faster than Zopes TextIndex (more to come ;-) ) * compatible with ASCII, ISO-8859-1 Requirements: * Zope 2.5 or Zope CVS trunk checkout Documentation: * http://www.zope.org/Members/ajung/TextIndexNG/wiki/ Download: * http://www.zope.org/Members/ajung/TextIndexNG/ Installation: * The installation is described in the Wiki (see above) Changes since alpha 2: * added new PyQueryParser (implements the same query syntax as QueryParser but it is a native Python implementation that will run on all platforms and does no longer require flex/bison). too large Data.fs ? There might be a problem with having the Zope Database (ZODB - Data.fs file) as one file and that is hitting the 2-gig file limit that occurs in many OS's and python. There is an article on "Recovering from hitting the 2 gig data base limit" at http://www.zope.org/Members/andym/2gig Check ZODB Roadmap at http://www.zope.org//Wikis/ZODB/ZODBRoadmap. ZODB storages, - FileStorage - bsddb3Storage - ReplicatedStorage - OracleStorage The first action plan should be to reduce the size of existing ZODB. The following are some of ways to reduce the ZODB size, 1> Pack ZODB Go to the root folder of Zope management screens. Click on "Control_Panel" and click on "Database Management". You can pack the database by removing previous revisions of objects. This will keep a backup of database as "Data.fs.old" (at Zope installation's var directory) and reduces the database size. 2> External File The ExtFile/ExtImage Product stores a file externally in the file system and keeps only meta data in the Zope Database. The file is stored in an external file repository and is accessible via its corresponding Zope object. Find more information at http://www.zope.org/Members/MacGregor/ExtFile 3> LocalFS The Local File System product allows you to access files from the server's local file system as if they were objects in the ZObject database. It also allows you to upload files to the file system. 4> Storing in External Database Consider storing your data in external databases like MySQL etc. There are Zope database connectors available for most of the databases (RDBMS). 5> Membership Data If your site has large member base and if you are storing membership data in ZODB, then you can consider the following options to store member data, - LDAP - MySQL User Folder - or other external storages 6> Break the Single Site into multiple Sites If your site is too large, you can as well consider to break the single site into multiple sites. You can have two or many Zope sites pointing to the same user folder (such as LDAP) for authentication. You can use SiteRoot to have logical URL names. If you use consistent style sheets, framework and GUI, users feel that it is a single Zope site. 7> Select OS Some OS's don't have this problem Solaris, Windows NT/2000, AIX, and FreeBSD (too name a few). Move the db to an os that supports large file system. Try 64-bit Linux, where Python 2.0 supports large files. Check the article "Recovering from hitting the 2 gig data base limit" at http://www.zope.org/Members/andym/2gig There are other ways to have multiple ZODBs : 1> Mountable Databases It would be desirable to mix multiple storages or multiple databases in the same of Zope object space. ZSQL methods in a ZClass

Hi everyone, I'm building a little ZClass that I intend to use as a wrapper of sorts around a bunch of ZSQL methods. The reason is that I want to give people access to this SQL database, but I don't want to litter the root of my Zope with bunches of ZSQL and DTML methods just so they can be acquired in various other folders. Putting DTML methods in as methods of the ZClass should work fine, but the ZSQL methods don't seem to work. I get a traceback when I attempt to view a DTML method that calls a ZSQL method. Am I trying something that isn't possible? Here's the traceback. I'm open to suggestions: (please forgive the ugly formatting of the traceback. authenticated but user still anonymous

I have looked around quite a bit for this one and haven't found anything that helps. I have a 'raise "debug", (self.REQUEST.AUTHENTICATED_USER)' in my product. I access a dtml method that in turn calls this particular function and after authenticating through the typical browser interface I see the "debug" statement above which shows 'Anonymous User'. owner security assertions

What would be the correct set of permissions and security assertions I need in order to make it so that in addition to manager only the owner of that object can edit it. It seems if I just gives the permissions I want to the owner role that doesn't work. If I assign someone to the role of owner they can do stuff in all of the documents which is not what I want. I had thought that owner was a role you got automatically on an object if you where its owner. This is on zope 2.5.1 with python 2.1.3 on debian sid. I am using the explicit security assertions on functions using the new security model in the zope developer guide. Is there anything special I would need to use with the more explicit security model to get that to work? Designing and building web applications http://webme-eng.com

Generating Graphs on the Fly

Hi all, Here's the problem, I want to use a python site-package called pychart to generate graphs for my laboratory. If I provide all the parameters required internally an the External Method, I can get the graph to be produced. To generate the graph I have a DTML Method (meth_1) which calls my_graph_external_method. To use my graph all I have to do is: <img src="meth_1">. But, what I want to do is to be able to pass in parameters to the external method, i.e. graph type, data, labels etc. so that the users can customize their graphs. However I can't pass in any parameters to meth_1. I don't really want to make the process 2 step by creating the file with one method and then reading it with another. Anyone any ideas? One approach is simply to incorporate them into the same module in the Extensions. You construct two different External Method descriptors, but they point to the same shared module. belen(a)netcom.no wrote: I have two external methods in the same zope folder. problems with <dtml-in> (sort_expr)

Hello everybody. My problem: I want to reuse a dtml-method ("myMethod") that manage tables. In "myMethod" I have the next piece of code: <dtml-in list_of_dictionaries sort_expr=sort_by ...> where "sort_by" is has the "column" to sort. This work fine, but now I want to use "myMethod" to show a table and I don't want to sort it. Which is the value of "sort_by" that do what I want? I have been looking the answer on the ZopeShelf, on the mailing list and I haven't found it yet. Any suggestions? Thanks, Martin
