Possible error in Sams Publishing Zope book?

Hey, y'all... New to the list, new to ZOPE, trying to learn. As the subject line implies, I have a book from Sams Publishing, titled "Zope," subtitled "web application construction kit" which has examples in it. I love examples... Most of the first 3 chapters revolve around setting up, making database connections and what not. Chapter 4 starts an example for a type of discussion board. The security that they ask you to set is no view for anonymous access, basically requiring a login before you can see the page. They give the following section of code for the index_html: <dtml-var standard_html_header> <center> <dtml-if "AUTHENTICATED_USER.has_role('Anonymous')"> <h3>Welcome to your Message Board</h3> <p> Please identify! <p> <a href="login_html">Login</a> </dtml-if> </center> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> Using this code, exactly as-is, I receive the following error: Compilation failed TAL.HTMLParser.HTMLParseError: malformed start tag, at line 3, column 10 The given location is the first " in the dtml-if statement. Now, I'll admit, I'm not a programmer, and I've never played one on TV, but there are other pages in the same site that use the dtml-if statement with a ", and none of them throw that same error. Can someone clue me in on this? It's been driving me nuts.... Michael Kleymann

Hi, What do I've to accomplish to call context.documents.manage_addProduct['OFSP'].manage_addFolder(id='new_id2') with my own product? eg: context.documents.manage_addProduct['OFSP'].manage_addCasusDocument(id='new_ id2') I've already made it possible to import manage_addCasusDocument through python scripts. However now I'm stuck and don't know how I can create an instance of my product inside a BTree folder Thanks in advance, Tom.

converting < to < problem in page templates with Javascript

Hi, I am trying to import into a page template a Javascript File. I use this: <script tal:content="nocall:root/CT/Scripts/J_Scripts/calendar.js">hold</script> I get the same text without the nocall expression. That file is brought into the template, except that in the Javascript code, all the '<' and '>' are converted to < and > This damages the Javascript code. For example, the following line of javascript is changed original:->> for(var i=0; i<3; i++) changed:->> for(var i=0; i<3; i++) Notice, in the changed version, there are 3 semicolons (' ; ') instead of 2, and the Javascript parser in the browser throws an error. Can i bring the text from the javascript file in Exactly as it is? I can make it work in DTML like this, but want to use ZPT. <script> <dtml-var calendar.js> </script> Thanks, mark

Why is it so hard to do simple things?

I'm new to Zope, and new to Python, but certainly not new to software engineering, with most of my background in C, Perl and Java. I'm trying to do something quite simple. I'd like to see if a user has checked off a radio box. If it's their first time to the page, then the attribute request.perm_or_temp hasn't been set, and one of the boxes should be checked by default. If it's their 2nd time to the page (perhaps an error, and they're POSTing again) then I'd like to retain the state of the checkbox. If I was doing this in perl it'd be quite easy; I could check the query variable, and act on it -- but now I have to deal with things like not being able to even examine the variable without throwing an exception, and the fact that Python doesn't short-circuit blows. i.e. You can't examine something like: if (hasattr(request,'perm_or_temp') and request.perm_or_temp == 'P') ... In Zope, I assume that I should be using DTML here, and perhaps dtml-in over the items in the radio list. What's the proper way to do this zope? My current version is quite poor, takes up too many lines, and is disgustingly inefficient: (this is a dtml-method) # Default block -- this is a really shitty way to do this sort # of thing. Setting multiple cookies?

I am trying to set two cookies and only the first one gets set. I'm doing: <dtml-call "RESPONSE.setCookie('some_value', some_value)"> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.setCookie('another_value', another_value)"> In every case, the first cookie is set and the second is ignored, am I missing something here? Maybe this is really easy but I can find an example anywhere. How can I access a variable set with "dtml-let" inside of a python script? How to check type of variable in DTML

I am passing a variable to a ZSQL method and I need to check whether its a string or a list before it is part of a WHERE statement. How can I check this? <dtml-if mk> CMAKE IN ( <dtml-var "mk[1:-1}"> ) </dtml-if> This works well if its a list but blows up if just a string. Needs to be like this: <dtml-if mk is_A_list> CMAKE IN ( <dtml-var "mk[1:-1}"> ) <dtml-else> <dtml-var sqltest mk column=CMAKE type=nb optional> </dtml-if> Thanks -Allen

undoing ZODB transaction from command line

This is not the case for most zope users. a) If zope is used to support a publically-acessible site it absolutely must work in a manner that makes it convenient and acceptable for MSIE/Windows users: I take it that's not debatable. Since I never user MSIE/Win myself I had a hell of a time figuring out the 500-error bug (blaming it on networking issues and such). This is not a good state of affairs. While i don't like it, MSIE/Win is a de facto standard. (I know this is flame bait... you know what I mean, I feel sick for saying it, so please let's not get into it.) The hard-nosed "don't fix a conforming product line" if taken too strongly it the kind of attitude that could really be bad for zope acceptance. b) It seems that semantically a "server error" (500) code isn't even the right code for this particular problem, so the fix is fine there (although I have not checked the RFC). c) The worse issue is what to do with the other unexpected cases where zope might generate a 500 error as it's a default exception code. On my zope, I want the user to see the message page, if any. Inserting code to detected the browser/system and only change a 500 to a 200 code for MSIE/Win users alone seems fine but I'm not gonna bother doing this myself right now, in particular 'cause I don't know how robust it would be. d) As an aside, does any other browser ever really care about these codes?
