Two thoughts: 1) Is this a suspect version of Python+Zope? I had a lot of problems of this general nature with Python 2.1.1 + Zope 2.4.3, and when I asked on list I was told this might be the problem. I haven't been using Python 2.1.3 + Zope 2.5.1 long enough to be sure, but it does *seem* to have made some of these problems go away. 2) Writing __init__.py is a wee bit picky. Have you done this before so that you know you're doing it right? (Have given all the arguments to the context.registerClass() calls, etc?) Did you import the module that the object is defined in into __init__.py? Hmm. Does the name in __init__.py agree with the name in the original module? (I had some objects disappear without generating any traceback when I renamed one of them). Of course, that wouldn't seem to account for the product being missing. Does everything have a docstring? I've been bitten by that requirement a few times. I notice my initialize function has one -- I can't remember what happens if it doesn't, though. When a page would request the same image in several different sizes, my server would start thrashing. I never waited 10-15 minutes to find out, but that estimate doesn't surprise me (actually I'm surprised to find that it would recover at all -- I wonder if mine would've done so). This happened often, though not quite everytime (though it was almost certain to happen if I used a new client to view the page -- the browser's cache must've been saving me on the other times). I then put in some code to cause threads to wait if the object was being used (rather clumsily -- I didn't use the threading module, since I hadn't learned about it yet, sigh -- I still have to clear that mess). This reduced the problem considerably, though not quite completely (maybe doing the thread-locking correctly would've solved it completely -- but actually I'm going to try solving it with a solution based on Temp Folders, since I just upgraded Zope, so I may not find out about the original problem). I'm describing this in the hopes that my experience may give you some insight into what might cause this sort of problem, though I'm not sure if it'll help. Zope login via web form

Hi list I'm seems to be not very clear about zope authentication process . I want to make a Zope login via a web form for a acl_user ( normal UserFolder ) Well i have seen a couple of (coustomerized ) userfolders but dont seems to be suit my taste. I even was the Cookie Authentication via Cookie Crumble product of CMF. In summary im not get a way out of it ... though i have writen a external method which plays with REQUEST.header ( more precise REQUEST._auth) .. but i still dont get the idea. Database Connector acquisition

Hi, I have a shopping catalog which I want to localise. In the top folder are SQL queries and a dbase connector. This provides the UK price catalog. /db /catlog.html /catalog.sql I thought I might be able to create a folder called AU for australia, copy the database connector, modify it to point to the AU database, then aquire the other objects using acquistion. /AU /AU/db Hence /AU/catalog.html will produce data from the Au database. However this does not work unless the query is copied into the AU folder as well. I don't want to clone/maintain multiple copies of the same query for many countries. Anyone any suggestions TIA Dave

Scripts, external methods and security

Hi All, We are using Zope to publish some air quality data for our part of the world. We have written a number of simple Zope python scripts and external methods to access the air quality data. I have to confess we are all relative newbies when it comes to Zope and Python. One of the things I need to check is what level of script hardening and security measures do we need to take. We have a bit more experience with perl CGI scripts and have done standard hardening such as filtering out metacharacters etc. Do we need to take similar measures with Zope python scripting? What other security measures do we need to take? All hints and suggestions on practical security measures are greatfully appreciated. Hi all I'm experiencing a problem, wihich I can't pinpoint. I've written a small external python script, which writes a logline into a sequential file. Nothing komplex. This gets called whenever a webpage gets called. Now I get the following error: IOError, Errno 2: File or directory not found: <filename>.log The thing is this happens when I have low traffic on the Z-box. The system is up an running for about 12 months now and it has happened twice in the last 14 days. The logfile is about 330Mb. Any ideas where I would have to start looking? Thanx Oliver

Hi, I sorted of asked this question before but I am still hitting a wall. I am using this python code: context, container, script, traverse_subpath part_num = st1 + sub_type2 return part_num But when "part_num" is returned it is blank. I test the script and "part_num" has a return value. Dynamically create DTML Document

To anyone who knows their Zope, Within Zope I'd like to create a News Submission Form such that a user can type in a title and an article. The title of the DTML Document would then correspond to the title entered by the user and the body of the DTML document would be the article entered by the user. Anyone know though how I can dynamically create this DTML Document using Zope? Thanks, -john-
