I think I'd agree that mxDateTime is the problem. Even if there were a browser transaction, wouldn't the browser simply note that the URL is local and make a request using the current base. Zope then would have to sort out the proper target URL. The fact that it works most of the time seems to support this view although I have not looked in detail at the code nor at the behavior of the various browsers.

Thanks for digging it out, Oliver. When I get a moment, I'll look at the Zope code and see if it requires an absolute_url for redirection to an internal URI.

You're assuming that files have always an extension, but that's not true. What would happen with the Unix and MAC users who are not forced to give the file an extension to know that it's an image? I just tested what happened when importing a "bmp", "gif", or "jpg" without an extension: Zope knows what kind of file it is. I guess the solution is closer to this one: http://www.zopelabs.com/cookbook/992900431 However, it doesn't say if it's a jpg, gif, bmp, etc. But I guess that attribute can be also obtained, for Zope stores something like: image/pjpeg, image/gif, image/bmp, etc. I haven't try it because I don't actually need to do that validation, but I guess it would be nice. profiling problem on zope win98

Dear List, I wanted to try the profiling option. It works in the zmi but when I try to view a page without the zmi python breaks down. Does anybody know about the problem? Iterating through object properties

Is there a way either in DTML or a python script to iterate through all of the properties of an object without knowing its specific type? For example, if I have CMF Types of Document, File, Event, etc. I want to build a list of all of their properties without knowledge of the particular type. Ideas? Thanks, Kevin

Calling a ZPT on an object

Hi I have made a python Product and I'm trying to set up its public view. The user can pick (per instance) which template to use from a folder-full of templates. I want the index_html method of my object to call the chosen template with the correct bindings, i.e. here should refer to my object instance. The templates are stored in the root of the site in a folder called "zest_templates/news", and my object has a property called "template" which is the id of one of the PT's in to folder. So, my attempt is below, but obviously it does not work, specifically, the "here" is not bound correctly. def index_html(self, REQUEST=None): """Front-end view of the story.""" return self.zest_templates.news[self.template](self, REQUEST) How can I do this? Which cmf systems/web app servers are worth their salt?

While I delevop extensively in Zope, a local school has asked me to do a class on cmf systems. Naurally I will present Zope, but I also need to tell about other systems. Does anybody know about other systems than the ones I have listed in the bottom? I have intentionally left out Acs as it seems to be fading away. Comments on any of the systems would also be a help. references to zope objects

Hello list, I need (from within python code of an object of mine, call it myObject) to find another existing zope object (call it targetObject) and retain a reference to it, in order to call its API. As far as I have understood, objects in zope are identified by their id attribute, so this attribute could, I guess, be used to reference objects from python code of other objects. Am I wrong? The zope online help says: "The id is the unique name of the object within its parent object manager" so maybe I am wrong: the id is not unique throughout the entire ZODB, only within the parent object manager. Also, to get the id attribute the first time, one could call the getId() method of the object, right? But how can one call a method of an object without a reference to the object itself? Maybe via its URL? As an alternative to using the id attribute, could I use the URL of the targetObject as a reference to it? In this case what's the python code to 'dereference' the URL? Maybe the usual way to make objects interact is via some glue DTML or python methods? Any pointer to documentation telling the straight, usually followed way to make zope objects talk to each other? Hello, I installed mxDateTime to my Zope 2.5.1. Unfortunatley can I no longer use DateTime. All methods are unauthorized. It seems that mxDateTime has replaced the "normal" DateTime module. Any ideas how to fix this?
