List of "current" and deprecated products?

Hello everyone, Watching the mailing list lately, there's been a lot of messages saying that "product X is old/deprecated, and you should be using product Y instead". Like probably a few other relative newcomers developing their first few Zope solutions, this is starting to make me nervous... Is a list of current and deprecated products held in some central place? I don't monitor the release of new products religiously, so I'm using those products that are covered in (outdated?) documentation rather than continually checking to see if there's something newer & better around. zope freezes

hi! we are still having problems with freezing zope servers. we are relaying requests to an http server in the intranet, that means we are retrieving the page via httplib. under some circumstances, i.e. with slow pages and several concurrent requests, Zope freezes completely (all threads) until the requested page is fully processed. HTTPS question

Hi Zopers, A couple of days ago I asked a question about HTTPS. I had been running Zope 2.3.2 (FreeBSD 4.3), with Python 2.0... for historical reasons. Anyway, it worked for a long time although there were times it would crash... Now I have a very stable 2.5.1, but one thing no longer works: one of my favorite things involved grabbing pages with KebasData, some of which used HTTPS. It seems that my python2.0, which has since gone away, was compiled with SSL. Now, the python2.1 that came with Zope seems not to support SSL. I have been told that it would be hard to change this as it was installed from binaries. So, I have installed another python2.1.3 where SSL is available. Only thing is, when I try to run Zope with that (SSL-enabled) python, I get the following: ImportError: /usr/k/www/zope/lib/python/ExtensionClass.so: Undefined symbol "_IO_stderr_" A very intelligent friend then suggested I install Zope from sources. An easy thing with FreeBSD ports. Very Strange problem with Z SQL or ??

I use this structure ZPT -> Python Script -> Z SQL I create a new object in the database (pg). First I do the nextval dance. I get the correct ID back. Armed with this ID I insert my data. Data is correct inserted. Now I use the ID to select data from the DB, so the user can see the object created. This Z SQL object works perfectly when I test it. But when I use it in my python script - it returns empty every second time!? That is first it returns empty, but if I refresh the page once more the correct data is displayed. My first idea was that the browser cached the pages - but this is not the case. I can test this by printing the object_id on the page. No caching done here. If I in the python script hard code a object_id this object is returned correctly. With this notion in mind I started testing the value of object_id just before I call the Z SQL object. object_id != None and object_id != '' and object_id > 0 object_id is an integer greater than 0. So what do I do now? Any suggestions? Need more information? Thanks for your time.. \Oliver

ZServer Error every now & then...??

I will soon be going live on a far more powerful server so I dont want this to happen again. IT doesnt really cause any problems, just that sometimes some links take a loooong time to load after this error happens. I usually restart zope and it doesnt happen again till the error occurs ... again. Is it my hardware, my installation or a question of load?? zope & PIL

hi there, we are trying to do some image manipulations with the python imaging library; i want to use an external method to call different pil functions: import Image def manipulations(infile, outfile,...) manfile = Image.open(infile) ... called locally from the python interpreter, everything is fine; called via zope (independently of doing it via forms or directly) it gives me an io error: Error type: IOError Error value: cannot identify image file any suggestions? - thank you! - oliver -- This is Linux Country. REQUEST object in product

Hi, I put together a bunch of z classes to ease the building of forms. The idea was that any instance of my zclass could call the method edit, which would then search for a dtml form called editForm in a hierarchy and render that. The editForm in turn contains calls to the widget method of the zclass which renders the html code for the different form fields. So far, so good. I wanted to get rid of the zclasses and make it into a python product. However, the wiget method now no longer has access to the REQUEST object which is implicitetly passed to the zclass method. Is there a way to get the current REQUEST object from within a method of a product? I would prefer not to write <dtml-var widget(id,value,REQUEST)> all the time. Thanks in advance, Douwe

It wouldn't have been my first choice to do it the way I did, but it works, and it's quicker than my other options were... (Some history) I had the same problem with cookie-based authentication. The root of the problem lies in the log() method of the file ZServer/medusa/http_server.py. That method uses the 'Authorization' header of the request to determine the name of the user. Due to the architecture of the internal objects used to represent the request at this level (not the "REQUEST" we're usually used to using, but another lower-level request object) the 'Authorization' header is a read-only field. I believe it's the __get_item__ and __set_item__ methods that are custom for that request object, so that all attempts to "set" the Authorization HTTP header will just be dumped into the list of response headers. Since I could see no other way to get around the problem by making a change in the 'CookieCrumbler', or in my case 'LDAPUserFolder' products, I decided to just fix the problem by monkey-patching the log() method in the http_server.py file itself. To do that, you can do something like this: 1) Add two lines like these to the top of http_server.py for the import you'll need below to make parsing the cookies easier. # PAUL DID THIS SHAMEFUL THING from ZPublisher.HTTPRequest import parse_cookie 2) Down near line 290, you have the part that determines the name that will go to the Z2.log file. Here, you see 'name' being set to 'Anonymous', then there is an 'if auth is not None:' block which determines the name from the "Authorization" header. In my case, I added an 'else:' block below the if which has this dirty patch of code: try: auth_cookie_name = "my_auth" # probably '__ac'? cookie = None try: cookies = {} header_value = self.get_header("Cookie") if header_value: parse_cookie(header_value, cookies) cookie = cookies.get(auth_cookie_name, None) except: name = "Anonymous" if cookie is not None: cookie = unquote( cookie ) try: cookie = base64.decodestring( cookie ) name, password = tuple( cookie.split( ':', 1 ) ) except: name = "Unknown (bad auth cookie)" except: name = "Failure!" Note that the way I solved the problem is "brittle" because should you ever change your auth_cookie_name, and forget to change it in http_server.py as well, you'll stop seeing correct values in your logs. One more important note: Since you have more than one acl_users, you might want to put the 'Cookie' based name-fetch code before the 'Authorization' header based stuff. It would be possible for you to log in as admin, then use the cookie-based login page to authenticate as a normal user, in which case your browser will be sending the 'Authorization' header, as well as the cookie, and that would cause the standard acl_users username to be logged... > I assume there is some method which needs to be called > to update the username for logging purposes when the > login is upgraded, but I've been unable to find it. I tried to find a method like the one you're describing, and one alternative to my solution would have been to add that kind of facility to the low-level request object, and make different changes to http_server.py so it would get the user's name from that new variable instead of from the Authorization header, but I couldn't find it, and it didn't appear that CookieCrumbler was doing that either... Upon further investiongation... all the sub objects are listed as methods in the Yihaw Folder ZClass.
