External Editor question

I was able to get External Editor working on a Solaris box and W2K Client. I used Python-2.2.1.exe, win32all-148.exe, and zopeedit-win32-0.5.exe on W2K client. I only had to add an editor path to the ZopeEdit.ini to get it to work on the client (Product already installed on ZServer) Works great with one (1) editor path but how do I get it to differentiate from a text editor (or html editor) and an image editor? Zope feature freeze project ??

Hello, as many of you, I am driving a zope based platform for a business. What happen with Zope developpment ? Like most of the Public software, the developpment is a mix of bug fixes and feature adds. It's like the life :-) Feature adds means a lack of compatibility with the "mass" of products installed on your working platform, which means moving all this products to follow the fast developping speed of Zope... But, how many time do you need the new features ? When you have developped the platform the first time, you did a great work, and now you only want to keep it alive at a low cost. Bug Fixes mean that you will not stay for hours and days investigating why something is failling, and avoiding the cracking of the sysem. So you need it. There is an alternative way, which is the development of a Zope with feature freeze, and only bug fixes. And I think it is surely more economic and secure than updating all the products. Well, in my case I am with Zope 2.4.4b2, and I don't want to upgrade to Zope 2.5. I still remembre when I started the developpment with 2.4, almost none of the Zope 2.3 products worked !!! So I am looking for: 1) A software tool to manage this "feature freeze" developpment (I suppose that a very good cvs system, to differentiate the bug fixes and the feature adds, from the zope head developpment). I have looked for a generic system, and a generic community, but I haven't find anything yet. 2) People with the same needs. 3) Tell and explain me why I am wrong. Feature I would like to see in next ReplaceSupport

Stefan, When you get a search result using the ReplaceSupport product I think it would be great if next to every link there's a little ExternalEditor pen for the ExternalEditor product for those who have that installed. I tried quickly and it works but I'm not sure how good it is. Site evolution and redirection strategies

We're contemplating some major changes to our sites that will break many existing URLs. In our first transition (from Front Page to Zope!), I handled the issue by matching the old URLs and creating a few DTML Methods with code along the lines of: <dtml-call expr="RESPONSE.redirect('index_html')"> This works fine, but it's not terribly clear what's going on. It seems like it would be reasonably trivial (i.e., within my powers) to create a python product that stored the new destination and performed the redirection. This product would have the advantage of looking different than a simple DTML method. This morning I got a list from my boss of old URLs and their new names, which got me thinking.... What if there existed a centralized redirection product that allowed me to enter lists of old and new URLs and have the redirection automagically happen? Seems to me that this starts to get into the realm of acquisition and other deep voodoo magic best left alone. I'm leaning toward creating the simple product and leaving it at that, or perhaps additionally creating a script that generates the redirect objects automatically from my list of old and new URLs. So I'd love to hear your wisdom. How have people handled this problem in the past? Do products like these already exist? Are there any gotchas that I haven't considered? I have a simple Python script that returns a list of files in a directory. This is used on a page template to create a list of links to all sibling files in the folder. This is very similar to one of the Zope examples. However I can't delete the current context from the list as I want it included, just displayed differently. The Python script sorts the objects by a required criteria to determine their order in the list, so manually reintroducing the current context in the template is not possible. I've been attempting to iterate through the list and then compare the file ID of the item in the repeat loop with the file ID of the template using 'cmp'. portal_skins has all the page templates. Choose one from the properties list "custom, zpt_topic, zpt_calendar, zpt_content, zpt_generic, zpt_control, topic, calendar, content, generic, control, Images" and send to custom folder.
