Hi, there is this option for a folder to add some properties with standard types, like boolean, date etc. Is there a way for (multiple) selection not only to define the displayed text for each popup-entry, but also the "value" for the generated option-tag or the "name" of the select-tag? Where do these defined properties live within zope, and how can I access and manipulate them directly? Andreas

Polling a folder

Hi all, What's the best way to Poll a folder in Zope (I want to check the folder every now and again for new items, perform some actions, etc.) I have tried creating a polling object that runs a loop in a thread and does the work I want it to do. I do this with a Zope Object inheriting from SimpleItem.SimpleItem. I invoke this object's run method in a thread with thread.start_new_thread(self.run,()). Zope doesn't seem too happy if I inherit from SimpleItem.SimpleItem and threading.Thread at the same time! The strange thing is I get acquisition problems that I'm battling to solve. Things like: self.aq_parent.Tables.id == 'Tables' self.aq_parent.Tables.QMessages.id == 'Tables' (??? Seems like QMessages is the same object as Tables) self.aq_parent.Tables.QMessages.sqlGet() == Attribute Error (it claims sqlGet does not exist, it does). Also, when using the ZMI to navigate to the offending folder (to see if the folders are there etc.) then the acquisition will suddenly start working again. I'm not sure if the fact that I'm polling in a thread has got anything to do with my problems, but I am sure that I'm sooooo confused! Etienne P.S. lists, not strings in database

I need help with saving a select box value. When multiple items are selected in my form, and then inserted into a SQL server, it is saved as a string that looks like a list. I have tried to specify the data type in name value, none of which change the stored value in the database. This may not be a problem if I only knew how to display the list from the returned database value. _________________________________________ Here is the form object(it is generated dynamically from a dtml method so the size changes): <select name="PeopleInvolved" multiple> <option>aperson</option> <option>bperson</option> <option>cperson</option> <option>dperson</option> </select> _________________________________________ In the database field( a text data type in sql 8) it saves like so: Insert into table (PeopleInvolved) values (<dtml-sqlvar PeopleInvolved type="string">) ['aperson','bperson','cperson'] _________________________________________ When I do a select statement in a zsql method it returns the same value: select * from table ['aperson','bperson','cperson'] _________________________________________ And to display the results in html is do this: <table> <dtml-in sqlMethod> <dtml-in expr="_.string.split(PeopleInvolved)"> <tr><td><dtml-var sequence-item></td></tr> </dtml-in> </dtml-in> </table> __________________________________________ Which show like so: ['aperson', 'bperson', 'cperson'] __________________________________________ If I just use <dtml-in PeopleInvolved> I get an error about not using strings in an "in" tag. Cookies for banishing users

Hi all The situation 1. The user logs in and the cookie is set. 2. The user requests a page with a form and submit button 3. The page contains a request to a python script 4. The python script adds data to a SQL table 5. User is redirected to a "thanks" page. The address bar refers to the script (not the "thanks" page) 6. The user logs out (The cookie should expire here) 7. The user clicks on "back" button to come back to "thanks" page. 8. The user reloads. At this stage another entry is made in the SQL table. I want to put an end to this behaviour of the site. The user should not be able to insert data by just reload. My question is: Can cookies be of any use here. The problem is that unless the user closes the browser this is not unset. The user is not able to see other pages but can activate the script !! TIA Chetan

dtml-in totals...

Hi *, I have a dtml-in occurance, which returns several columns from a table, all of which are numeric values, but strings. Each is a different quantity of something, and I want to be able to display the total for each column. What I'm trying to get at is this... <dtml-in myZSQLMethod> <td> </td> <td><dtml-var qty1></td> <td><dtml-var qty2></td> <td><dtml-var qty3></td> <dtml-if sequence-end> <td>Total</td> <td>total for qty1</td> <td>total for qty2</td> <td>total for qty3</td> </dtml-if sequence-end> <dtml-in> My question is what logic do I use to calculate these totals? 2 problems - dtml-tree and python scripting

Hello out there, I have two problems: The first is about dtml-tree Tag. With the following code i have the problem that when i click on the last leaf in the tree, the whole tree closes itself. How can i have the tree expanded when clicking on the last item? My second problem is this: In a python-based script i try to call a external Method in a different context. The problem is that the place where the method is called is stored in a variable. zeo : use cases

Suppose I start out with a single, standalone Zope server, and later realize I want to utilize the scaling capacity of ZEO. Here's how I would naively assume this would work: 1. Setup ZEO on another server (I know theoretically I can have ZEO on the same server). 2. Start ZEO. 3. Stop Zope on ths standalone server. 4. Backup Data.fs, place a copy on the ZEO server. 5. Place a custom_zodb.py in the INSTANCE_HOME folder of the standalone Zope server; the custom_zodb.py points to the ZEO server. 6. Start Zope on the previously standalone server. Is that all there is to it? I'd be able to answer this question myself if I could get ZEO running. In the meantime, I'd very much appreciate any insights into this seemingly common use case. How do I implement Strip-o-gram or other solution?

Hi all: I have an application that end up mailing a newly-created News Item to a mailing list upon it being submitted. The body text of this email is stored in HTML; I need to strip the HTML tags from the content and render it as PLAINTEXT before sending it to the MailHost and then off to the Mailing List. I intalled the Strip-o-Gram product but cannot get it to work at all in the way I expected it to work. So, what I did was to create an External Method called html_to_text which I set up like Module Name: stripogram.html_to_text and Function Name html_to_text. Then, in my DTML Method that does the mailing, I have it set up so that it is as follows: << <dtml-with object_published> <dtml-sendmail mailhost="MailHost"> To: email(a)address.com From: <dtml-var from_user null="Some User <nobody(a)here.org>"> Subject: <dtml-var title> <html> <body> <dtml-var "html_to_text(getHTMLBody)"> </body> </html> </dtml-sendmail> </dtml-with> >> If you were doing this simple thing, which is to say, taking the html tags off of a tagged tract of text, rendering it as plaintext for an email, what process or procedure would you use? Link to a script from ZPT

Hi, I am having the following problem: In a ZPT I have a HTML link that points to a python script. I want to pass a parameter to the script. What is the right TAL expression to call the script passing it a parameter? I tried <a tal:attributes="href python:here.myscript('arg')">Link</a> but it replaces the href attribute with the output from the script, not what I had in mind... I would appreciate your help.
