Custom Repository for Storing Objects

Hi, I am a newbie to Zope and have just gone through the tutorials and a little bit of ZopeBook. I have my own Custom Repository (RDBMS based) that has the features like storing flat files, folders etc. It also has provisions for user management. I have the XML APIs (lanuage is not a problem) for interacting with the repository. Can I store all the objects created in Zope in that repository? Further I also want that the authentication should also be done based on that repository (its like the roles and users defined in the custom system). Is it possible in Zope? I can comprehend that I would need to develop some kind of an interface that sits between the two for integration, but I wanted to know that whether it is possible in Zope or not? Its like when a user creates a folder or an object, the request is actually send to a module and then that module stores the object in my repository (may be the format is little bit changed) and vice-versa. manager can, proxy role manager cannot

Hi; I have a script which wants to create a new folder object in a folder which is only viewable and accessible to manager role. Something like this: #### REQUEST = context.REQUEST templateFolder = context.template.people peopleFolder = context.teamA.people personTemplate = getattr(templateFolder, 'person') pT = peopleFolder.manage_clone(personTemplate, 'a', REQUEST) #### When I access this script, even though I have set it to proxy as manager, I get the login/password box. If I go ahead and put in my username & password, it works. quick conversion from dtml-document to method

Hi, I have a few dtml-documents that should have been dtml-methods. (rookie error, made before read Zope book). Does anyone know a quick way to convert these docs to methods? My problem is Zcatalog indexed them as documents. So when users do a search and try to access it, they get a Zope error. Most of these dtml-documents that should have been dtml-methods, required variables to passing to them for them to work. Thanks in advance for any suggestion -- Mike

Accessing Variables

Hi All Simple question. Imagine a session with several forms. what do I have to do to access values collected in a previous form (several web pages ago) from a python script, without passing them as parameters to the script. In other words how do you assign global variables accessible by a script? Product use

Hi all, I have a product, "MyProduct", which has two methods getFood() , getWater which are both declared protected with permissions. If I have strcuture of admin -- A --B there is a user in A called joe, with the Role of LocalManager and a user in B called fred, witth the Role of Developer, and Michelle with the Role LocalManager I would like only to add a product instance to admin, not to A or B, but also let joe,Michelle and fredcall getFood() and getWater() *as they are hungry and thirsty* -- only if they have permission. can anyone tell me what i'd need to do to achieve this? I have this working by adding my product to A and B, but don;t fancy having thousands of objects being created when i only need one. TIA, Matt Ps. I know I *could* do a lot with external methods, but they just don't cut it for me (in my partic' senario)

Lost the battle

Hi All, Some time ago i questioned this list about ten aspects of zope. (see Considerations using Zope). Just wanting to let you know i just lost the battle on getting my company to use Zope as it's web development platform.. Most votes went to using J2EE. Major cons against using Zope is the smaller userbase and the fact that Zope is still fairly unknown. Sorry, i've tried. Greetings, Daniel

How to avoid the recording of a transaction? (that causes Undo weirdness)

I'm currently writing a product for the ZMI, that pops up a DHTML menu with links to the recent objects we have edited. It works perfectly fine except for the fact that, due to the product records a hit everytime an object is visited/rendered (in order to show only the links of the most used ones), no undo for that object will be possible because that transaction will be added on top of the regular ones, always. The common error message will say "No undo was possible because a later transaction may have modified the data." Of course I can see that if I ask Zope to record a hit in one product object everytime any other object is viewed, I must expect that that recording was considered a transaction, but in this case that seems to be a problem. Is there a way to avoid that transaction recording and allow Zope to blindly perfom changes to the ZODB? Thanks in advance, Ausum
