External Methods - Weirdness between two installations of Zope

So we have a "test" and "production" installation of Zope 2.6. I'm experiencing some very interesting wierdness with external methods on the two systems. Now, I didn't play an integral role to the setup of these services, so the answer may be a simple configuration option I'm unawares of and my tech people are too ambivalent to care about Anyway, I've developed a small application on the test environment that has many external methods. I would often be editing the scripts in a telnet session and then reloading pages to see the new results. No problem. I copy over the product to the production environment - I exported over the zope objects and copied the .py file to the other Extensions folder - and there are a few small bugs to work out. But on THIS instance of zope, changes to the external method are not reflected unless I go into the method object in the ZMI and click "save changes". This stikes me as very unusual. Any advice? weird sessionsing bug..

tales expressions issue

I have a formulator form with 12 form objects -- some text boxes, some check boxes, etc. There are 3 multicheckbox objects that want to populate with objects from a folder object. Ergo, I have a multicheckbox objects called department, population, and institution. I also have folder objects by the SAME name at the same level in the zope heirarchy as the formulator form. I have a python script called listTitles also. Now the strange thing happens when I use a python expression in to populate each of the above mention checkbox fields. I use "python:form.department.listTitles()" to populatre the department formulator object. It works. I use "python:form.population()" to populate the populatio formulator object -- it does NOT work. Same thing for institution. I'm begining to wonder if I can only have one expression on a formulator form. Any idea's what might be happening? I can put in the url "http://server/test/department/listTitles" and I get back a python list of objects in the department folder. Which is what I expect. PAL versus DTML

As a newbie I am kind of confused by different techniques in zope. DTML I understand as a help to modularize websites by limiting a DTML method/document to a certain task. But this generated code is not usuable and workable with WYSIWYG tools and hence PAL is the method of choice since all these XML namespaces hide the stuff to the designers with their dreamweaver. But how do I now modularize my site with PAL in the DTML way? From the handbook I figured that DTML does not seem to be the method of choice since it is not usuable by the designer folks with their tools. So how to accomplish modularisation with PAL and how to transfer/use my old standard_html_header/footer? (I posted a similar inquiry yesterday, but due to high traffic I may and my newbie existense I kind of did not get any answer replying to that specific quest :-) Raphael

How to render tales in strings in a script

Hi, I need to render a string (not a zpt-object) with tales like <img tal:attributes="src here/images/spacer.gif/absolute_url" src="spacer.gif" alt="" title="" border="0" width="1" height="15" />. Does anybody know how to do this in a script? I already know how to import PageTemplate.py and it should work with read() or pt_render() or document_src() but it does'nt. :( I get unauthorized errors. -- many thanks for your replies, Elena

Hi, hello, this is my first post this list. Im am using: (Zope 2.5.0 (source release, python 2.1, linux2) [SuSE Linux], python 2.2.0, linux2) and have the following question: Given that folder hierarchy: root +my_domain +scripts +generate_link (Python script) +projects +fooproject +index_html (DTML document) where everything but my_domain/p rojects/fooproject/index_html is owned by admin, only my_domain/projects/fooproject/index_html is owned by some standard user (Authenticated role). in index_html I want to call the script generate_link like that: <dtml-var expr="scripts.generate_link('bla.pdf')">The bla document.</a> I'm not using any proxy roles, and get the following traceback: Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Zserver starting error

Hello, as a beginner of Zope I have a start problem of the Zserver. I created a Zclass in the Product Folder. It worked very well. Mixing authentication techniques at the same site with exUserFolder

Hi, I'm using Zope product exUserFolder (v 0-10-9) under Zope 2.5.1 Our site has sections using Zope, and other sections using Apache (to use CGI software not under Zope, like for instance mailman or IMP Horde). The Zope sections authenticate users via exUserFolder, OK. The Apache sections use http basic auth, OK. The problem is that when a user navigates (in the same browser session) from one part to another. DTML Newbie: Using variable as an object in path?

I'd like to set a variable in a DTML document, then call another DTML doc and use that variable as part of an object path:, eg: <dtml-with a_folder_name.the_variable_value> so I can use different objects (files) by passing the filename in the variable. How can I do this? Also, is the correct way to set a DTML variable to use dtml-call REQUEST.set or is there another way? Thanks in advance, Patrick Price

Hi Chris, in the European Union, all member countries should, by 22 December 2002, have passed laws that will prohibit the possession, sale, manufacture, import, advertisement of computer equipment that is able to defeat technological measures designed to protect copyrighted works unless that computer equipment has significant commercial purpose for other uses. My understanding is that the CBDTPA (Consumer Broadband and Digital Television Promotion Act in the US contains similar wording). The exact wording is included at the bottom of this post. Now, to the extent that TCPA/Palladium will be accepted as an "effective technological measure", as I understand it (and if anyone knows any different please tell me so I can forget about this and concentrate on more productive work), possession of any computer able to be used to access files protected via TCPA/Palladium will be outlawed (subject to the significant commercial purpose test above mentioned). An (extremly) pessimistic reading might be that in Europe, we will only be able to purchase computers without TCPA or some equivalent system until such time as some large corporate persuades a judge that servers/PCs capable of running open source tools such as Zope have a "limited commercially significant purpose". So in Europe at any rate it appears that the playing field has been significantly tilted in favour of TCPA/Palladium. Thus, any one investing in software (ie Zope) that (presumably) will require non-TCPA hardware is making a gamble that the necessary hardware will continue to be available. This is I think the major difference with the PS/2 analogy: back then no corporate decision maker had to worry that future possession of an ISA card could be a criminal offence. Zope is a marvellous tool. This thread has generated a lot of comment, some say there is no problem with Zope and TCPA/Palladium, others say TCPA will be economically insignificant, others that the two factions will emergre, living parallel lives. What nobody is yet saying is that as a community we have weighed the Zope developement and implementation process against what is known about TCPA/Palladium and that as a result it is: a) no change needed, business as usual or b) TCPA/Palladium will cause us to alter how we work, what we can do in the following ways ...... or c) something else. I don't know about other folks, but clients are looking for more than a shrug of the shoulders, when we are pitching against the C#/.asp crowd. Best wishes, Rob 2.
