Hmm, Had an odd problem with scripts the other day. It was not writing to the session correctly, despite using the RESUEST.SESSION.set('blah') thing. I restarted the server...and it worked. Now I have the problem I have detailed in my message with the subject "[Zope] Script writing to session: bizarre result or just a mistake?"(posted earlier today). I am pretty sure I have not made a mistake. What could go wrong? It is a bloody simple script. It does not work. I a beggining to think I have a bad install, and need to re-install (this begins to seem more likely than the next options). Here's a couple of horror stories of mine. I'd love to hear yours. What inspired this post was something that happened tonight. I was playing around with a very simple script when I kept running into errors: Can't convert an integer into a string; Can't convert a string into an integer; etc. I *knew* there wasn't a problem with my script. After a futile hour of trying to track down the *problem*, I decided to copy a perfectly good and currently functioning script, giving it a different name and passing the variables like I do to its parent. Sure enough, I ran into the same errors! Why?! My worst nightmare happened a couple of weeks ago. I decided to rebuild my file structure into something more portable. I had placed a number of scripts and old DTML methods in the root. I decided to copy them all into a folder, add the folder to each of my sites, and put the new folder into each site's path. Simple, right? What could possibly go wrong? Well, I forget the exact errors Zope threw at me, but it was all utter nonsense. I finally decided I'd just restart the sucker. I mean, why not? Bad, bad idea. I couldn't restart it. Worse yet, I ended up having to reinstall Zope. When I went to open my old Data.fs file, the goblins had secretly returned it to the exact state it was in at my last backup...two weeks before! How???? How could it have possibly known?! basic question about uploading docs

We're looking for a way to collect documents from different authors and put them all on the same website and in a way so they all look basically the same (colors, layout, etc.). Is this possible to do with zope? If so, how to do it? Would zope be able to preprocess the html already in the docs? Just trying to make a decision. Thanks.

localzone not defined

I am trying a feedback form using the MailHost object in Zope 2.6.0, but get the error "localzone not defined". I tried this patch http://mail.python.org/pipermail/zope-collector-monitor/2002-October/001224… and restarted but still get the error. Any ideas? Thanks, -Patrick Price

Perhaps you could be clearer about your use case? Do you mean replication for high-availability, for backup? Or do you need to sync objects between 2 Zopes? I'm supposing you mean the former; in that case, options are: - Commercial Product from Zope Corp: Zope Replication Services (ZRS) - this replicates above the storage level, and is conceptually really nice (I think storage-agnostic, which would definitely have a benefit in certain cases), but it comes with a cost. - Replicate the storage itself: I like this approach because it is free (LGPL), but it does require more work and verification to get it working. I would suggest considering DirectoryStorage for this; it scales well, has replication and incremental backup tools, and you can use standard Unix command line tools (cpio over NFS, etc) to replicate stuff. http://dirstorage.sf.net - Other low-tech solutions of replicating below the storage (network RAID, distributed block devices, rsync). Calling a File from an External Method

Hi; I'm calling a function with a file name from an external method. I need to pass a variable to the method, so I have a line like this: <dtml-var expr="externalMethod('file')"> but the error comes back thus: IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'file' when said file does indeed exist in the same directory as the DTML Method and also the External Method. What have I done wrong? TIA, beno

Hi, I was following the 'Howto build a simple ZClass' howto. I didn't change anything with permissions. When this constructor didn't work, I copied and pasted a Python Script constructor from the HOWTO, which is appearantly what Zope 2.6 generates. I renamed the original constructor, created a new Python Script the constructor name, and copied the script from the webpage. That worked, without changing any permissions, and created for me the new ZClass instance. It even created the new ZCatalog instance inside, as it was supposed to. So the constructor code was definately executed, no errors, no permissions changed for anything. Does that help, or does that make it a bigger problem? Newbie: How to run CGI scripts outside Zope

Hi, I am trying to install nagios to my site. Nagios requires that the following script alias and alias to be added to the httpd.conf file. So can anyone tell me how to inform Zope to ignore this path and let Apache handle it? Thanks. AL
