Can't untar Zope distribution

I downloaded Zope-2.6.0-src.tgz so I thought, but the file that downloads is actually Zope-2.6.0-src.gz (just thought I'd mention that in case it made a difference). Seeing the .gz file type, I first tried gunzip and got this error: incomplete literal tree gunzip: Zope-2.6.0-src.gz: invalid compressed data--format violated I then tried unzip and got this error: End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on the last disk(s) of this archive. unzip: cannot find zipfile directory in one of Zope-2.6.0-src.gz or Zope-2.6.0-src.gz.zip, and cannot find Zope-2.6.0-src.gz.ZIP, period. So I tried tar (Gnu tar), I got this error: incomplete literal tree gzip: stdin: invalid compressed data--format violated tar: Child returned status 1 tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors Anyone got any idea what's going on here? I am on a FreeBSD platform. By the way, is there an ftp site where I can ftp these files directly? can I use standard_html_header in Page Templates?

Dear Community, ok - I am new to Page templats - but while building my site I started with generating a standard_html_header and standart_html_footer and now I want to incorporate the Example Guestbook that comes with Zope into my site. But the example testbook is based on Page templates. How can I use my standard_html_footer and haeder with these Page templates? I tried to build a dtml wrapper document that includes the page template but this only worked for the addEntry but not for the output of it. Hm, I stumble a bit - does anybody have an advice to let me do the task and combine the haeder and footer with the guestbook? Appreciating any help, Yes I am a TAL beginner :-) and do read documentation (ZopeBook:-) Raphael

Well, actually, no. What I'm building is a product for people who are new to Zope that want a quick, easy template for building "brochureware" sites, one that will also serve as a tutorial. In such sites, the content rarely changes and it isn't too much to deal with anyway. There are good Zope products out there that do translation that people who need industrial strength can use ;) I got the folder thing taken care of ;) Thanks, beno

Greetings folks, I have done this so much simpler. Although it may or may not work in your particular environment, it is worth a try: Get zope to display table and via browser's pulldown menu save it (file->save page as) giving a name with .xls extension. That's it. The particular environment I use: mozilla, win2000. The rest hardly matters. I have put 100s of thousands of items in to a folder before, and I would offer the following advice, for whatever it is worth: - Use BTreeFolder2. If you are okay with sized batches of objects using the default sort, this is going to help, if you code your application to use this functionality. If you need sorted batches of objects, use the catalog to get these listings instead. - ObjectManager methods like _setObject and _getObject using Zope security machinery may slow things down a bit in a folder with lots of items (at least it did in the old BTreeFolder, this may no longer be the case in BTreeFolder2; the workaround for the old BTreeFolder product, which had to load the entire list of objects as a dictionary, was to use _setOb() and _getOb(), bypassing the security machinery). - Backup and scalability concerns might be helped if you choose to use DirectoryStorage and the right filesystem: http://dirstorage.sf.net. You can back up zope just by copying the ZODB, but that gets interesting when it's very large. I've heard on this list that copying a live ZODB might be problematic if zope writes to it while you're backing it up. I don't know if it leads to simply missing some updates in the copy, or worse corruption. So I'm stuck with some downtime while making the backup copy, which is not insignificant with 2.4 GB of data. One strategy I'm looking at to mitigate this would be: 1) restart zope in read-only mode. 2) make a copy of the zodb. 3) restart zope in normal read-write mode. This is to announce the release of Pound v1.1. New in this release: - improved auto-configuration. Pound compiles now correctly on more platforms, including various *BSD. - new: LogLevel 3 for Apache-compatible "combined log format" (should be easier for automated tools). - Pound no longer asks for a client certificate in HTTPS unless it is really required. - much improved stability; new monitor process to watch and restart the real process if necessary. - better handling of the 'Connectio: close' header, resulting in fewer problems with IE 5+. - possibility to listen on all available interfaces, including dynamic changing IP addresses. - a few minor bug fixes. Most notably a work-around for a bug in the threads library on OpenBSD 3.2. - new support for HTTPS for Zope 2.6 (same as previously available for 2.5.1) The software is at version 1.1 (production quality). Further testing (especially under heavy loads), improvements and suggestions are welcome. What is Pound (from the Web page) - a reverse-proxy: it passes requests from client browsers to one or more back-end servers. - a load balancer: it will distribute the requests from the client browsers among several back-end servers, while keeping session information. - an SSL wrapper: Pound will decrypt HTTPS requests from client browsers and pass them as plain HTTP to the back-end browsers. - an HTTP/HTTPS sanitizer: Pound will verify requests for correctness and accept only well-formed ones. - an HTTP/1.1 to 1.0 proxy. - a fail-over-server: should a back-end server fail, Pound will take note of the fact and stop passing requests to it until it recovers. - a request redirector - it will pass client requests to separate groups of servers, based on required URL and the presence or absence of headers (pattern matching) Pound was specifically developed to serve as a front-end for multiple instances of Zope running on top of a common ZEO storage, but can be used with any other web server. A patch for the Python source of z2.py is available as part of the distribution to allow using Pound's SSL capabilities. Pound is currently in use in several medium to large volume sites and seems to be holding up quite well: largest reported site does about 3.5 million requests per day, peaking at over 300 requests per second. The speed is well superior to other, equivalent solutions, the configuration is much simpler and the necessary resources (CPU, RAM, disk) are much, much lower. Pound is distributed under the GPL.
