Approval Workflow

Hi, Does Zope has an Approval Workflow Component. I want that before the page is published, the page goes through an approval process. I mean it goes to a number of people before being published on the web. And if yes, can I plug-in or incorporate my own workflow system (my developed workflow component) into zope, maybe by introducing some integration stuff. Thanx Sameer

Zope.org and New zope.org status

Here are Zope Corporation's status reports from zope.org and the "new zope.org" effort. We haven't been keeping the community up to date very frequently regarding our efforts to improve these sites, for which our apologies. From now on we'll try to do better. Apologies for the cross-posting; please direct followups to zope-web(a)zope.org. First the zope.org status report. The big news here is that we now have a (part-time) paid webmaster, Jeffrey Shell. (Some of you may already have noticed this, but AFAICT it was never officially announced.) Jeffrey has calmly and quietly been gardening the zope.org website, adding a link here, cleaning up a page there. To reach Jeffrey, send email to webmaster(a)zope.org. Next, the new zope.org effort. When we last reported on this, we had hired Sidnei da Silva to convert the old site to a more recent version of Zope and CMF. The site will also get a new look (based on the contest winner (similar to www.zope.ch) We're glad to report that Sidnei has been very active, and we expect he'll be ready to go live with the new site next month, despite having spent three weeks in the hospital with pneumonia. Here's a more detailed status report from Sidnei: Milestone Three: - Update ZWiki to latest version -- This was already done before I went to the hospital. Of course ZWiki development continued, and I updated it again this monday to get all fixes. There is still some work regarding UI to be done (converting backlinks, history and subscribe pages to ZPT). Milestone Four: - Create custom replacements, based on CMFDefault for UseCases, ZSP, etc. -- Not done yet. - CMFPackage -- Its working and funcional. Still needs UI work (integrating a mockup that was done by Olivier (?) with the Software Package view). Milestone Five: - Replace Software Product -> CMFPackage -- Migration script is working very nicely with this. Some manual work will be required for organizing /Products/Zope, which has a folder for each version released plus a folder for each hotfix. - Replace Tracker -> CMFCollector -- I feel like we need to discuss this one a bit. Reason: there is now a new and improved collector, CMFCollectorNG, which was developed by Andreas Jung based on CMFCollector. It looks worth using and contains great improvements - Replace UseCases/ZSP -> Custom CMF-Aware types -- Not done yet. - Consolidate ZCatalogs -- Based on some preliminar tests, I feel that we may need a better approach to this. Seems like theres no *big* speed improvement in using ZCTextIndex when used together with slower indexes, at least with the out of the box CMF search script and having *all* the content indexed at 'portal_catalog'. However, the search results seem to be a lot more meaningful. So, this item 'just works', but may need optimization. Milestone Six - UI work. Make a "Useable" skin that will be replaced later -- Im working on this right now, specially on CMFPackage and CMFBackTalk. I already adapted the template to be automagically shared between ZPT and DTML skins, and thats a great improvement cause it will allow us to reuse a lot of things from the old site without big modifications. --Guido van Rossum (home page: http://www.python.org/~guido/)

Please help with ZopeTime AttributeError

I have an out-of-the-box, installation of Zope (Zope-2.6.0-linux2-x86.tgz), CMF (CMF-1.3.tar.gz) and Plone (CMFPlone1.0RC1.tar.gz) running on RH Linux 7.3. I've done little-to-no customization, save for minor header and footer tweaks. I created one user with Manager privileges. When I log in with my Manager account, I'm taken to the logged_in page, but I'm greeted with: Site error This site encountered an error trying to fulfill your request. The errors were: Error Details Error Type AttributeError Error Value ZopeTime Additionally, after adding a new document to a subfolder and going to the "state" tab, I receive the exact same error. Almost everything on the site is usable, but I just hit this error in the above situations. Logging in with the Admin account, I do not get these errors. This leads me to believe it might be some kind of permissions issue, but I'm not sure which Perms to tweak. I have changed the DateTime.py file already, so I don't believe that's it. I hit that bug already and found that patch. I'm very new to Zope and Plone, so I'm not sure where to begin looking. Any hints would be greatly appreciated. I've had seven years' experience working with *nix, Perl, Java, various RDBMS's and backend web development environments, and had only heard Zope mentioned a few times in passing until I took on my current position, around 2 months ago, with a company who are using it extensively on their intranet and extranet sites. I've since mentioned Zope to friends and associates who work in the IT arena, to be met each time with a blank stare - Zope is still a strange unknown animal to many, even in the IT world.

How can I display single quotes (') in a structured text document? Is there some way to escape single quotes? When I use them to surround a word, ('word'), they get converted to <code>word</code>. Thanks, Mark

Changing object properties from Script (Python)

(Newbie stops, wipes pieces of wall from forehead, and asks for help.) I'm stumped trying to use a Script (Python) to change the properties of a sequence of Zope objects. Here's the problem: certain objects (simple folderish objects of my 'Cable Channel' ZClass) have a property called 'categories' that needs to be in the form of a Python *list*. In many instances, however, the property was saved as a *string*. (For more detail, see my January 6 post "Solution for 'in requires character as left operand' error".) In my Script (Python), I've been successful identifying the problem objects and retrieving from them their 'categories' string. Also, I can convert the string into a "singleton" list. Then I hit problems. I want to iterate over these objects, calling a method that will change each one's 'categories' property. Hell if I can do this! I create a list of two-item tuples, the first element of each is a reference (of some sort - the problem may lie here) to a 'Cable Channel' object with the problem 'categories' property. The second item of each tuple is a proper Python list version of the property. I've been beating my head against things like: object_tuple[0].manage_changeProperties({'categories':object_tuple[1]}) I'm missing something about how to call a method on an object from a Script Python (and the object is indicated by a variable or index). Please help, if you can! My newbie hackery is included below. Scoping of <dtml-let>

Hello, In my hunt for my memory leak, I have discivered I probably shouldn't use REQUEST.set nearly as much as I do. So now, I have a few questions/problems regarding <dtml-let> ... First of all, is there any way to have it scope over more than one object? For instance, how would I set a variable in standard_html_header that would be valid for the entire output (i.e. that could be used by other DTML code that is rendered after standard_html_header, as part of a given page of output?) For instance I used to do REQUEST.set(sniffer, usersniffer()) ... The sniffer dictionary was then available everywhere thereafter, including DTML code in the object containing the header. Unfortunately, using <dtml-let>, I can't do this, since I can't even save a dTML document where a <dtml-let> opens but isn't closed (I would close it, say, in the footer). Is there any proper DTML way of doing something liek this without using REQUEST.set ??? Also, basically on the same topic, how do I nest <dtml-let> with <dtml-if> ? One of the reasons I resorted to using REQUEST.set is because I often would want to do things like: <dtml-if ""> <dtml-let> <dtml-else> <dtml-let> </dtml-if> </dtml-let> Which doesn't work, and I bviously don't want to repeat entire blocks of code for both conditions, and in most cases breaking them out into seperate objects doesn't make sense either ... Any insight into how to get around these issues would be much appreciated!
