Hi all Where can I find pyUNO ? Please do not send the link spread over the net. This link( http://polysorbate.org/?work/pyuno) <http://polysorbate.org/?work/pyuno> looks like some urban legend. This site just does not exist at this moment. If it did in the past then all that matters to me if someone can send me a copy ot this thingy. TIA Chetan

stripping values from string

I have two list from my input form: ListA: [a,b,c,d] ListB: [1,2,3,4] How can i strip ListA and ListB so that the first value of ListA will correspond to the first value of ListB and the second of A to sencond of B and so on: Example: (a,1), (b,2),(c,3),(d,4) I want to be able to populate a database with these values. I've tried to accomplish this using dtml-in but failed miserably. Can someone give me a pointer on how to do this? Thanks in advance for your suggestions, Mike

Thousands of Objects - how do they manifest? (newbie)

I'm thinking of developing an auction system using Zope and I'm going to be dealing with a lot of objects (if these things are represented that way rather than as records in a database). But, I'm wondering about a few things: 1) Are all objects in Zope persistent? ZClass instances? Python objects? 2) Are all object instances visible as entries in a Zope UI folder? Is it possible to have persistent objects without them being visible? Or does it not matter that the UI will attempt to list them all (millions or more)? 3) If I am expecting a very large number of objects would I always be better off using an external database? or are there circumstances where ZODB is quite able to look after them? 4) If I need to be assured of being able to backup/restore the database and/or rebuild the site in the event of catastrophe does an external database provide any greater facility/reliability for achieving this? Or is ZEO the thing to use? Thanks for answers. :)

trying to understand ZPT macros...

starting to play with ZPT, and I've hit something that I Just Don't Get: metal. I'm trying to (essentially) pass a single argument to the renderLinkGroup macro. I assume I need to do this with slots, but it's not clear to me at all how you use a slot for something that's not a bit of HTML. There's something I'm just not grokking here - I've read all the online docs I could find, and have had no luck at all. Thanks for any help.

Can't help you with your zope, but most of what you find on google about that client string is pure bullshit. This string is (was?) sent by some microsoft control (in the meaning of activex _control_) which can be used implement ftp and http transfers. So the RIAA, Spammers or people with do-it-yourself-crawlers which are all said to cause this string have just one thing in common: they probably paid too much money for some trivial VB tool which aids them in their ... uuhm ... work. cheers, oliver

Hi Michael, You can use Excels' Web Queries (Data-Get External Data-New Web Query). Create a Zope method (Python Script or DTML Method) that outputs your data in am HTML table. Pass the URL of your method to the Excel Web Query and it will download the data into a spreadsheet. Bob Corriher P-Wave Inc.

trying to insert into postgresql db

I am using an sql method to insert data into a postgresql db. The sql method keeps rejecting the data types date and time. These are recognized datatypes in postgresql. If I switch it to Int its ok. If I use like varchar will the connector convert it to the Right type for postgresql/??? Lewie

When is data.fs.index created with ZEO?

Say i move a Data.fs to a new ZEO installation. Does a new data.fs.index get created when the ZEO starts, when a client starts or at some other point in the process? Thanks--Chris

Zope Product and Global Module Help

Two issues: 1) I have a product that I wrote in zope which is just a big hash. It loads in company names as keys, and from a text file, adds ticker items as each value for a particular key. Now I only want this huge dictionary to load once, which is when zope starts up (possibly in a global space), as I need one copy of it and I need that one copy to update every x number of minutes. Currently, I think, each user that views this product, loads his own copy of the hash, which makes it slow and a memory hog. I only want a single copy available to all users, and the data refresh time to be determined by the system or the user. 2) In the same python product, I am trying to access an ODBC database connection. I have tried 2 ways of accessing it, and both have failed. First I created a Z SQL method in the same directory as the Product, and tried to access that Z SQL method. My product subclasses SimpleItem, and so I tried self.getattr(name_of_Z_SQL_meth)(). The Z SQL method doesn't take any arguments, so that should have worked. Then I tried import SQL from Zope: from Products.ZSQLMethods.SQL import SQL, and running the SQL method directly. It always complains about the formation of the connection ID which I cannot seem to get right. Help on either of these issues would be greatly appreciated.
