Might not be a bad idea. One paradigm I have found myself gravitating towards is hybrid storage. For example, in an ecommerce site, using a CMF-backed system to keep catalog entries, and create custom actions and skin scripts/queries-to-rdbms/etc for associating relational content with the ID of the catalog entry in the object database, thus maintaining some sort of relationship between content stored in the ODB, and data stored in a RDBMS. (NB we're talking around 100K bids per item) An external database is also likely to help separate out reliability and scalability issues of the eCommerce data separately from taht of the web site. Now down to the external database. I've gathered so far that probably the best database to start off with would be MySQL for Python (with ZMySQLDA). Using Layer with cookies

On Clientside having an orderform, where the user can select a part after giving some values for a Query(ordernumber, partname,...). the values are send to the dtml-Dcument, where a SQL-Query puts the Data to an array. First writing a cookie, then updating a layer.src="dtml-Document Name", in the end display the array-data. This works fine, until the cookie value has whitespaces(' '). Writing a cookie "value="a b c";expires...", on Clientside(the mainform) the REQUEST.cookie is korrekt, but on the serverside(the layer.src) the REQUEST shows only cookies: value="a" Why is the value truncated? Is there another way to get dynamic Data in a html-form? thanks Axel

Question: Files and history

I know this has been asked before, but I need a definite answer before we can pick ZOPE as our platform of choice for a project. One of the major requirements is to be able to view history for files (docs, images, etc), and be able to view the actual file @ any point in the history. Basically, we need "history" functionality that ZOPE currently provides for such objects as Scripts, DTML Methods, etc. The question is, has it been done before? Is there a ZOPE product that has this functionality. Would it be difficult to extend an existing class to add this functionality? I tried to follow one of the suggestions in this mailing list (extending the class from History.Historical), but that rendered my product invalid. Any help would be appreciated! Regards, Daniel.

which auth package to start with

I need to write an external python script to plug into our authentication system. Its a cookie based system. Basically, I open a socket to an auth server, send a cookie to it, if the cookie as a valid one, I get an okay back. If not, I need to send it to an auth page. The auth page is on a different machine. It prompts the user for credentials (id/password) over an https connection. It then checks kerberos for that user and if okay, sends a cookie back to the browser. In short, I don't need to create a cookie, just grab one, send it over socket, and come back with an okay or not okay. So, more Catalog weirdness. I moved my data to a naked server, cleared the Catalog and went to "find object" to reindex everything.
