Dear All, I have installed Zope and played around and been impressed. It seems to be able to do exactly what I want it to do. I want to create a simple file sharing site for a customer. I know I CAN do it, but I don't have the time to read all the manuals, experiment, test etc.. What I'm looking for is someone who would like to help me create a simple file sharing site. I'm happy to pay for someone's time but I don't have a huge budget. The budget may come but in the first instance I'm financing this myself. I hope this is an acceptable subject for the list. Deleting a SiteRoot

Hi; I have a site that I no longer serve. It has a SiteRoot in my Zope server. I want to delete the SiteRoot so that I can access the contents. However, I can't surf there because any attempt resolves to the current server: not mine. I can access this page: http://webmaster.vi:8080/bandwidth/manage_main but when I try to click and delete the SiteRoot I'm again sent to the current server and my task is not accomplished. What expression can I write to delete the SiteRoot? TIA, beno

ZMI?

Hi, all. First of all Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! :) Strange thing: when I click something (e.g. folder tree in the left frame) -- Zope waits forewer and goes timeout. But when I at the same time looking over production sites I have created -- all works fine. Seems that something wrong with ZMI, isn't it? Data.fs Disappeared ?!

Hi; Okay, I figured out how to change the password. Then I installed the old Data.fs in the new rebuild and ran start. I logged in (yay!) but much to my amazement the directory didn't have any of my data! It had the standard data from the new rebuild! I double-checked to make sure I had the right Data.fs in there: it's about 10 times larger than the one from the new build so it's right and it's in the right place. What on earth is going on?? Zope Server Down!!

Hi; I had some problems I'll share shortly, so I tried to restart my Zope server. I use InstanceHome, so I ran this command in that folder: nohup ./zctl.py start I always run this command and it always works. I run nohup to supress output. I ran it without nohup and got this: Starting ZEO server on 5800 "/usr/local/bin/python" /home/httpd/ZopeInstallation/Zope_software_home/lib/python/ZEO/start.py -p 5800 & 'import site' failed; use -v for traceback Traceback (most recent call last): waiting for ZEO server to start 1/200 File "/home/httpd/ZopeInstallation/Zope_software_home/lib/python/ZEO/start.py", line 91, in ? import sys, os, getopt, string ImportError: No module named os waiting for ZEO server to start 2/200 That 'import site' part has me worried. I tried to alter some of the things on my sites; specifically, there were a number of scripts that I had at the root of my server. I decided to copy them all and create directories in each of my sites where they were used, then I redirected the path that gets called when the site is called to include the directory. The strange thing is, when I put that path into the browser (before the crash) the site came up just fine, but when I tried to simply hit the site as a user would without the redirection the redirection failed. It had worked before doing this (and adding this new directory). But why would scripts not being present--even if they weren't--cause such problems? So I tried it with the verbose flag: #./zctl.py -v start Traceback (most recent call last): File "./zctl.py", line 331, in ? _dispatch() File "./zctl.py", line 328, in _dispatch globals()[action](args) KeyError: -v Apparently it doesn't like the flag! Howto use getattr() without acquisition?

I'm building a python script to generate breadcrumb navigation links on each page of my website. It creates hyperlinks and uses the title or id for the link. I'd like to add a feature so that if the folder has a "nickname" property, it will use this for the breadcrumb hyperlink instead of the title. I tried using "hasattr()" to see if the current folder has a nickname property. It seems to work if the folder has a nickname property. However, if the folder doesn't have that properly, but the parent does, it still returns "true" and then getattr() acquires it from the parent instead of using the title. Is there a way to tell hasattr() to *not* use acquisition? Or perhaps another method which would do what I want? I'm sure there is a much more elegant way to do this... PUT_factory -- Script Import Permissions

Hi, I need to write a PUT_factory so that FTP and WebDAV uploads create the right type of objects in Zope (by default everything is mapped to three objects but you can override this). The PUT_factory needs to be a script so that I can place it in the affected directory (I want to override the default for a "file share" directory), and because I can't write external methods on this account. Once the factory determines the type of object to be created, it needs to return an empty object of that type (for instance, a File or ExtFile). Problem is, a script can't import the definition of File etc., so I can't invoke its constructor. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW I CAN CREATE A File, ExtFile, ETC. FROM WITHIN A SCRIPT AND RETURN IT (EMPTY) AT THE END OF THE SCRIPT? Please note that using manage_ functions probably (?) isn't the right way to do this. Creating Page Templates using XML-RPC

Hi, I'm assisting another programmer who's using Zope to create a new version of our website. I need to create about 3000 relatively static pages (the actual content is static, at least for a few months, until the next time I update the pages; the content is surrounded by a header, a footer, and a sidebar which may change depending upon news announcements). I'm new to Zope and just want to create the pages and then get out of the other programmer's way. For our old site I wrote a Python script that creates these 3000 pages and use SSIs to pull in a header and footer. I can do the same thing for the new site by using macros to pull in Zope page elements. However, I'm a bit confused as to how to do this. My questions: * In looking through our site using the Zope manage interface, it seems as though every page is represented by a Page Template. Is this true? Do I need to create 3000 Page Templates? * If the previous is true, how do I create Page Templates programmatically? It seems XML-RPC can work for me, but I can't find an API to create Templates. Are Lookups via DTML methods efficient?

I have a list of easy-to-remember website names, and hard-to-remember URLs. My goal is that when coding my Zope site using DTML I should be able to refer to a URL by its easy-to-remember website name. I am thinking of creating a near-identical group of DTML methods whose IDs are the website names and whose titles are the URLs. Each method would then return its own title. Is this approach efficient? I could call a SQL database instead, but I think that would be overkill in this case. Also, opening up a connection for this simple information might not be efficient either. Should I use a field index on a catalogue instead? Each website name would only have a single URL, so the search would only return a single value. Could there be an XML approach which might work well?
