ZDataQueryKit dsn connection string

Hi, I am having trouble getting ZDataQueryKit to work properly and the problem seems to be my use of the dsn connection string in the Z Visual ODBC Client. I have tried many variations of the following without success, perhaps some kind person can put me right. I have set up a ODBC dsn connection in Win32 Control Panel, and this works with the more common 'Z ODBC Database Connection' DSN="Driver={SQL Server};Server=local;Database=DataSets;UID=nobody;PWD=here" or simply DataSets nobody here TIA Mike B

Programmatically Writing ZPT Pages

Hi; The way I develop my sites has me creating three ZPT pages for each rendered page (don't ask why ;) Two of these have the exact same content irrespective of how many pages are in the site. I would therefore like to write a rule that creates these pages on-the-fly such that I don't have to create them manually, and only concern myself with creating the last page, which contains the content. Any ideas on how to do this? TIA, beno

Keeping Zope Alive

Hi; I seem to have run into this problem before but I don't remember how to fix it. I start my Zope with: ./start -u www & but it doesn't go into a background process. When I close the shell (or lose my Internet connection) Zope crashes (2.6.x, RH7.2). What to do? TIA, beno

In principle, if the browser closes the connection the server might see a socket error, but I do not think that Zope gives you access to that. Besides, then you would probably have to handle all the socket errors yourself, which you do not want to get into. Maybe Dieter or someone else knows how you could pursue this approach. Supposing that you had a link on the page that let the browser send a message to the server. You could click on the link after cancelling the page. Well, the external method is still busy, and the server is not going to be able to talk to it unless it is multi-threaded (which would get complicated) or unless you had the server set a value in a file somewhere that the external method periodically checks. If you did that, you would have to track which instance of the external method gets which signal, so that you would have to track sessions. The whole thing seems so tricky that it would best be left undone except under great duress. Cheers, Tom P

The more I think about it... the external method is looped into, so it would by my zope script(python) that keeps sending requests. Zcatalog

I'm having some Catalog weirdness, and in trying to diagnose it, I've raised some questions. My catalog says it contains 41,658 records, all of them a kind of Zclass called an FLSNewsStory that subclasses CatalogAwareness and DTML Document. All of the indexes show either 41,657 objects indexed or 41,658 objects indexed--all, that is, but the text index on PrincipiaSearchSource, which is showing 212746 objects indexed. Any idea what might be going on there? (I've only had the catalog "find" FLSNewsStories, not any other type of object) My primary problem is very slow searches that seem to be tying up threads until my clients lock everyone out. The searches that get tied up send the Catalog a CreationDate value used as a range:min and PrincipiaSearchSource terms to match. How to use the total-nnn to compare to another total

Hi, Happy New Year everyone! I know what is listed below does not work. I am trying to compare the individual quantities to make sure it does not exceed the total quantity. The total-nnn get me my sub-total but I can not figure out a way to save the value for comparsion.
