Unicode and libxml2

Salut, I'm using Zope2.6 (Python2.1) and libxml2 and got some trouble with unicode. I'm parsing a xml document and write out the content of the nodes with: def utf_to_latin(content): """Converts an string in utf-8 to latin 1.""" return unicode(content,'utf-8').encode('iso-8859-1') That works fine, since it prints nice the German "Umlauts". Now I made some changes via a web form and want to store back the new content. When I call reportDoc.saveFormatFileEnc('-', 'ISO-8859-1', 1) it fails. Probably because the nodes of the xml tree do not contain UTF-8 strings. So how to convert the data I've got from the web form into UTF-8? Thanks in advance, Jens.

Field index problem

Hi all, I'm using a Field Index to index the "lastname" attribute of some content types. I would like to be able to search on those content types for lastnames which start with 'b' for instance. But I can't do a truncated search (B*) for a field index. Is there any way I can do that. TextIndex doesn't suit my needs as a lastname can contain several words. So B* would also match "Van Bil" . Any ideas on how I can achieve this ? -- Jean

Hi, The Zope 'Elvis' Tutorial(1) uses DTML(2). DTML is now deprecated. So I don't want to build my first Zope site using the Elvis DTML Tutorial as a model. I need more. Please help me if you know where is a good place to read up on CMF(3)/ZPT(4) usage? Scheduled Event Problem

I am trying to run an internal Python script at scheduled times by using the product Xron. I have tried a number of ways with no luck to call this script through the DTML Method associated with Xron. I can make the call if I use the trigger tab in the management interface. Anyone help with what I am doing wrong? Zope 2.7 - alternate logging

Hi there, I've been looking at Zope 2.7b2 and investigating what I'll need to do to reimpliment my virtual host file logger since the z2.py file has gone bye-byes. It's a slow process trying to figure out where the logger section in zope.conf is processed... To start with, how does one even use the zope.conf file to specify they would wish to use the rotating file logger? After I figure out this I can at least test my existing code in 2.7 Has anyone had a look at this before and would be willing to give me some pointers for what I should be looking to change to add a new handler? Is there an exstensible method for adding handlers or will I have to add it directly to /lib/python/logging/handlers.py? Thanks in advance for any help ;) Chris Beaven

charset FAQ

Hello, probably this is a FAQ, in that case please point me to some documents to enlight me. :) Our web application needs to be updated over the web, store text in PostgreSQL and show the data again. (The usual) Our users will enter data through the web or by file upload. The data will be in Latin-1, Latin-2 and Hebrew (to start with). There for the output will be in these charsets too. How do you handle this? I already have problems with translations to German. Some of my menus will not display the German special characters. I use "pure" Zope (no CMF/Plone), with DTML, Localizer. Apache/Zope Correct?

We have Plone/Zope and Apache all running. I thought that we had it right until I tried to access the the zope 'manage' area from my home. Our configuration is: Debian : testing (sarge) Zope : 2.6.2 ZopeCMF : 1.3.2 Plone : 1.0.5 Here is what I see from my home location. http://OurSite.com/plone looks just fine http://OurSite.com/manage does not show the Control Panel, but looks like most of the other stuff is there. >From the location where we have the install, http://OurSite.com:9673/manage shows the Control Panel My question is why can't I see the Control Panel (I can't restart Zope, among other things) from home? Could it be our httpd.conf configuration? We use a VirtualHost block with the following RewriteRule RewriteRule ^/(.*) http://127.0.0.1:9673/VirtualHostBase/http/ OurSite.com:80/ploneFolder/VirtualHostRoot/$1 [L,P] where ploneFolder is a folder created in Zope root and in which we have Plone. Zope 2.7 and ZEO

What is the appropriate way to install Zope 2.7 beta3 and ZEO? I did the "./configure make make install" routine, but how shold you do the rest to get Zope and ZEO running? I noticed mkzeoinstance.py and mkzopeinstance.py. I guess I should run those, but I don't find any docs describing them and they seem new so they are not mentioned in The Zope Book. In what order should I run mkzeoinstance.py and mkzopeinstancepy, does the order matter? I found a site saying that you could run "mkzopeinstance --zeo", but that argument seem to be missing. So therefore I wonder, do I have to tell Zope about ZEO? And what directories should I specify when running mkzeoinstance and mkzopeinstance? I want a nice directory structure. Google couldn't help me, or atleast it didn't want to at the moment I was searching :-) Tim

CASE Tool for Modeling and Code Generation of Workflows

Hi everybody, I would like to know if there is any initiative towards using a CASE tool to model State Diagrams and then generate DCWorkflows automatically. I know Plone guys did something like this to Archetypes. It is not necessary to have a specific tool but a XMI file that can be used to code transformation (generation). So the necessary thing would be a script (or a set of scripts) to generate code from XMI. This solution expose a problem (using UML state diagrams): -How to represent not only states and transitions simply but also associate the specif DCWorkflow´s state objects´properties like "triggers", and "requires permitions" (subclassing? stereotyping?), "variables", "worklists" and "script names"? Would be the solution to use extentions of UML state diagrams´ "state" objects with additional properties (to accomodate DCWorkflow´s state objects properties)? Do you know any case tool that I can extend core concepts to this point (maybe through stereotypes)? help with autolance...

I installed autolance on zope2.6.2 On restart, zope is not responsive. Normally, I would see 6 processes, but with autolance installed, there's only one process running. There's no errors in the event log. TIA! Also, I have zope 2.7 installed on another linux machine, when the memory limit is reached, autolance shuts down zope, but it fails to restart it. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
