zombies with htmldoc

Running htmldoc via an External Method that uses popen2() under zope 2.6.2b3 and python 2.1.3 (both by the book...) I get zombie processes that just hang in there... Now zombie processes exist when a parent does not wait() for a child, so the problem would look like it's in popen(). The htmldoc process seems to run to completion and generate the expected output. I seem to remember there were problems with popen, but a quick browse of the python bug list didn't turn up anything. Anyone else seen this behavior? Oh, yes -- the OS is RH9 and the machine is a dual processor Athlon. I suspect some OS related problem since this same code works without creating Zombies on RH7.3.

I want to send email from a Zope Python Product, but my outgoing mail server requires authentication, and the version of python Zope is running on (2.1.3) does not support authentication in its smtplib.py module. I tried applying a patch I found on sourceforge, but it did not seem to work - perhapse it was not a patch for the right version of Python, or perhapse I am not using it correctly. Does anyone have step by step instructions for updating Python 2.1.3 to allow authenticated SMTP login? --Sean

Newbie to Plone

Hello to all. I just installed Zope / Plone on my shared hosting account, and have a number of questions. 1) Is there a Word like editing interface available for Plone? I would like to avoid putting clients in a position where they have to remember to type "link title":http://www.linkurl.com. Click and pick access to links, images and text formatting would be great. 2) My hosting situation is this: I have a shared hosting account. I can setup domains within my account as follows: foo.com -> /home/myAccount/foo I have installed zope & plone in /home/myAccount/public_html/Zope-2.6.2 With this setup, do I use the one Zope / Plone install to run client foo.com's site and client foobar.com's site and if so how - or do I need separate installations? Disabling url encoding using getURL in page templates

I've set up a catalog of my sql database using the Catalog Anything technique, initially using the dtml search interface automatically generated by the catalog, but I've switched to the ZPT version, and don't know why my URLs returned from the catalog are always url-encoded, breaking the query string. This is where the URL that traverses to the database object is substituted into the search results report: <td><a href="someURL" tal:attributes="href result/getURL" tal:content="result/name">name goes here</a></td> Can anyone tell me how to stop this being encoded? Dear all, It is unbelievable, but I does not know how to show title property from object defined in variable like this example: <dtml-let picture="'z4_03_2.jpg'"> <dtml-var "_['picture'].title"> </dtml-let> It returns <built-in method title of string object at 02EB8730> but <dtml-var "_['z4_03_2.jpg'].title"> returns real title from object named z4_03_2.jpg. Passing python generated SQL to ZSQL in a DTML method

I have a dynamic Python generated SQL string which is available to a dtml-method page: <dtml-var generated_sql> parses to: select item_id from items I want to pass that string to a ZSQL method named: sqlMethod with the argument: the_sql and the content: <dtml-var the_sql> In a dtml method i want to call sqlMethod, pass the generated_sql to it, and return the results, that is: <dtml-in sqlMethod> <dtml-var item_id> <dtml-in> Any suggestions on how to approach this? We want to build a image database driven website. Visitors will trigger searches resulting in pages that roughly resemble Goggle's Image search results page: <http://images.google.com/images?q=cars> As in Goggle a click on a thumbnail will lead to a page with a <single view> of the picture (max 600 px wide). If the original still is bigger, there might be a link to a full-size view. The database will hold 8,000 - 10,000 pictures for a start, most of them small gifs. Image types will mostly be GIF and JPEG. Every image needs a <thumbnail>, a <single view> and a <full view>. Also there should be all kinds of metadata (jobs we used it for, creator, date of creation, keywords, description, notes, etc) Now the ?'s: If we chose to use the ZODB, how should the images with all their thumbnails and metadata stored for fast access? What would be the best strategy? Create some kind of object (folder) containing the thumbnails and metadata for each single image? Or better separate the thumb's from the original image? Or just dump everything into the same BTreeFolder? And would ZODB be fast enough? Or are there better solutions if speed matters? Lalo described they use PostgreSQL but if possible I'd like to keep everything inside Zope (maybe place the bare image files in an external file system). Might it make sense to generate the thumbnails on the fly when requested? So we only have the "original" files in the database (I guess not if speed we need). Is the property of a picture the right place to store the metadata? If so I'm not really sure what to do if I create a new property called "client" but the values could be many at the same time (Nike + Adidas + Puma) for a single image ... how will this be handled? thanks for any answers!
