I am trying to include only those dates that are before a certain date. However, if the first one is before, all of the dates are included which is not correct. I will then build this on, so that only dates that are between a certain range are included. Doh. FWIW, I bypassed the problem by removing 'goofy' characters (accented 'e' in this case) from the item/head field, but that doesn't guarantee the problem won't come back in the future. Is there any way I can enforce a certain charset in my forms, so the non-supported characters don't enter the system in the first place? Problems with date format

When I input a date in a DTML Form, I use the "%d/%m/%Y" format, but that date field must be stored in a MS SQL Server database in "%m/%d/%Y" format. I've tried to store that field using: <dtml-sqlvar date_field.strftime('%m/%d/%Y') type=string> but an error ocurred. How can I do that ? Thanks for any help.

Thanks, but I'm not keen on the whole site customize thing, I'd prefer not to muck with a Python setup for such a small part of the site. Something in your page was Unicode (therefore, ZPT tries to convert everything to Unicode; this is right) and something is non Unicode but it is non-Ascii, too. This gives you the error above. You can convert the non-Unicode non-Ascii into Unicode explicitly with the "unicode" builtin (you have to specify the correct encoding of your string). I have a different solution. However, many Python Gods (e.g. Guido and Martin) frown on it and think about ways to remove it from Python. Python has a "default encoding". By default, it is "ASCII". However, you can change it during startup (in your "sitecustomize.py") with "sys.setdefaultencoding(your_prefered_encoding)" to "your_prefered_encoding". After startup, "setdefaultencoding" is removed from "sys" (which is good). I live in a "latin-1" part of the world and therefore chose this as my default encoding. -- Dieter

Logging user actions

I would like to be able to track what our users are doing at our Plone site, since we are doing research on their behavior. To that end, I would like to get as comprehensible an log of what they are doing as possible. It is not strictly necessary to view exactly which pages are viewed by which user, but at least I would like to log all changes made to the site; if not the exact change, at least the fact that a certain page, or a certain content has been changed by a certain user. I have studied the logs, Z2.log, Z2-detailed.log, and the event log, but they don't really contain all the information that I am after. I guess what I am after is a sort of text log version of the information stored in the ZODB and its "Undo" functionality, so that one with reasonable resolution could study the logs and say, "User1 edited his home page, then he added a comment to User2's docuemnt, and sent a message to User3". We don't want to change what they have done, only study them. Do you have any tips about how one could go about doing this? Jesper
