Greetings everybody, I've tried to find some information on this subject by using Google, with no success. Therefore I ask it here, and if I've selected the wrong mailing list please let me know and accept my appologies. I need to develop a Zope product whose logic-part is to be left untouched but whose presentation parts (DTML methods, etc.) should be customizable. I'll give a little example to clearify: Let's say I write a guestbook product. This product has a default user interface which means that I can, if I wish, just add a guestbook product to the customer's folder and that's it. Unfortunately we're seldom that lycky. Perhaps the customer wants the guestbook in another language, or "embedded" into his/her original website. To do this I'll have to override the default presentation pages somehow. The management screens can stay as they were. What is the best approach? MPoll-0.3.1 install troubles

Hello. I can't install MPoll-0.3.1. Quickinstaller sad: File "/usr/home/alienoid/zope/lib/python/Products/PageTemplates/Expressions.py", line 146, in _eval ob = vars[base] KeyError: mpoll_view Product manager sad that all right with this product, but there are no MPoll type in portal_types.

An idea: put a "fast" updates, that check only if the object exists, not reindexing it. Apache2 mod_proxy question

Hi all, Finally switched to Apache2, and predictably enough it broke my setup. I use name-based virtual hosts, I define some handy directories for non-Zope stuff, and then I stick in some ProxyPass statements to pass the remaining requests into Zope. Well its getting closer. If I use this For object in context.myscript Try: Context.myscript2 Except: Try: Print error except NameError, e: print e return e I catch the 'print error' error (because it is not defined) NOT the original try error. If I use for object in context.myscript: try: context.myscript2 except NameError, e: print e return printed it does not catch the error at all and brings up the default zope error message. Unfortunately, except without an exception type doesn't let you get info on the exception. This isn't really too bad because you should use "naked excepts" VERY rarely -- usually at the top level of a UI, because they are likely to catch things you really didn't want to catch. You should usually understand what the expected exception types are and catch them explicitly. ZPT reading a file

This is probably a simple task, but its giving me a heck of a time. I've got a folder with some files in it. I'm using a PageTemplate to loop through the folder and pull the attributes of the templates out. I've got something like this: <div tal:repeat="item sorted_objects"> <div tal:content="item/title">title here</div> <div tal:content="item/title">author here</div> <div tal:content="structure item">content here</div> </div> The PageTemplates originally contained HTML, but I'm not so stuck on it that I can't use Structured Text instead (it doesn't seem to me that there is an html option for tal:content tags). Regardless of whether I use "structure" or "text", the content comes back as text when I view the page. I'm assuming this is because I'm accessing the item incorrectly. What would be the easiest way to get the content out of each item and use either structured text or just keep the HTML as well? Zope is just killing me right now--if this was plain ol' python I would have a look at dir(item) to see if there was a special attribute or method I needed. Thankfully I'm just learning zope on my own time, else I'd feel horribly useless instead of only terribly so ;-) The documentation seems lacking on the website, and on the net in general, as far as basic "heres how you do X" goes. Zopelabs is good, and one or two other sites I've found, but I know this has to be a really easy task. I appreciate any assistance. -- Jay Dorsey jay at jaydorsey dot com

Returning database results similar to google search

I'm fairly new to Zope, I have been searching for a number of hours on my most recent dilemma. I have a database that's full of information I'd like to return. I created a Z SQL method to select * from table, and using <dtml-in ...> I can return all the results I need, but there are too many. I'd like to only show 5 at a time, then have a links at the bottom so you can jump to database results 1-5, 6-10, 11-15, etc (much like at the bottom of a google results page). I need these links to be generated dynamically (the database grows weekly), dependent on how many results I have from the database. I have come up with a number of ideas, but they are primarily "unsuccessful hacks" ... is there a good "Zopeish way" I can acomplish this, or at least point me in the right direction?
