A question on how external methods reference modules

I've gotten my external module working but It has one little hassle I've been trying to get around. If I make a change to the module, I have to go back to the management screen -> External method name and click on the Save Changes button. It looks like this brings the changes into Zope. Well, I had the bright idea of linking to a stub function that doesn't change and then have the stub function call the real function that's imported. I figured I could then modify my method without re-loading it into Zope. I basically created two modules. In module1.py I have my stub function that chains to module2.py. module1.py import module2 def ReturnData(): """Return some test data""" return module2.GetTheData() module2.py def GetTheData(): """Return the actual data""" return """the actual data""" I can run this in python and it works. After the import module2, I can do a dir on the module2 namespace and I see "GetTheData" as one of the items in the list. When I add module1->ReturnData to the external module in Zope and execute it, I get the error "module 'mytest' module has no attribute 'GetTheData'". If I modify ReturnData to this; import module2 def ReturnData(): """Return some test data""" return dir(module2) the string returned does not show my "GetTheData" function in the list. I was getting an error that 'module2' wasn't found so I had to append it's path using the sys.path.append function. Now I'm not getting an error so I think it's finding module2 but it doesn't seem to be finding the function. I'm confused. Can anyone explain what's going on? As a second part of the question, will this allow me to modify the external modules without re-loading them into Zope? Property of Bar-S Foods. Virtual directories

Hello ! My site have only one main script, and I don't want to create subdirectories on zope like filesystems, because the site's structure is stay in the my outer (InterBase/MySQL) database - in records. So I want to do the site's redirection/navigation with virtual directories. I the user get this page: www.any.com/documentation/xy/private then I want to the zope don't show the an errormessage. The Zope give the control to my script, what know that this directory is not exists, split URL to subtags, and load it's data from the database, and show it. documentation/xy/private 1. zope 2. myscript: select * from documents where name=xy and kind=priv process, show So can I do that ? dtml-in - stepping back directories

when using dtml-in, how can I specify to step back a directory. Basically the equivalent of .. in *nix something like <dtml-in "../queries/selectPerson()"> sorry if this is a FAQ. I looked around but I couldn't seem to find the right search terms even some google terms would be appreciated thx -- David

ZSQL unit testing with gadfly?

Well, I am continuing my learning process with the unit-testing concept using ZopeTestCase. I need to test a product that in real-life uses a MySQL database connection, managed entirely by ZSQL methods. For unit-testing, I really should create a "toy" database. I'm presently thinking that it would be smarter to use Zope's built-in gadfly / ZGadflyDA support. Has anyone else done this before? Are there caveats I should be aware of? Is it an unsafe idea to test with Gadfly, when I'm probably going to be using MySQL in production? Is there anything special about loading a DB connection in ZTC? corrupted Data.fs

Something appears to have corrupted one of my Data.fs files. Here the trick of truncation does not work. The problem is near the middle of the file... Suggestions? Google didn't turn up much of anything useful.

Site map of the remote ZServer

Hi there, Need a solution for this problem: There are several ZServers over Inet. My task is to build site maps of those ZServers from current host (of course with ZServer too)? When site map is needed only for localhost dtml-tree works nice, but what to do in case of remote ZServer? Have any ideas? Thanks, Alexander Klimovich

kill LONG request and manage_main DoS?

Dear all, today I was look to my zope linux server and see that have one long running process (10 days!) and one python process consume me near 100% of CPU power. I was manage this page 10 days before. Does somebody know how to kill this request? It is safe to kill PID of this process, or is possible to kill request at zope level? I dont want to restart my zope server. And in other side, calling manage_main for some kind of objects is not pure safe? I was encounter problems with calling manage_main to ZipFolder and DTML documents (it tooks few minutes via modem and downloads from server few MB). Many thanks, J. I just tried to compare the objects of my list to the changed object via the absolute_url()-method ... seems not to be possible easily ;) can I compare my list of objects to the changed object via the obj._p_oid-Attribute?
