Role and-ing, rather than or-ing?

Here is my scenario: I have a folder Acme in my portal (and many other companies' folders - see great ASCII art at the end of message ;). Only employees of Acme should be able to view Acme and all it's sub folders. So, I assign the View right to the User role in folder Acme. Now I must give all the employees of Acme the local role User to give them access to Acme's folder. So far, so good. Now I want users of the site to be able to pay a fee to get access to "special" resources. For instance, Johnny is given the local role User in the folder Acme (he is an employee), but also the global role, PaidUser as he paid for access to special resources. This should give him access to special resources in the public parts of the site AND special resources under Acme's folder. In the public parts (which is not a specific company's sub folder), I assign the View right to PaidUser in the public folder. I assign the View right to both User AND PaidUser in the special resources folder under Acme. My problem is that the folder will allow people with User role OR PaidUser role to view the folder, not people with User role AND PaidUser role. The only solution I see is the moment I upgrade Johnny from User to PaidUser, I must walk through the site and find all the folder where he has the local role User, then change that to PaidUser. This is quite a pain and doesn't feel like a great idea. Any better suggestions? I would like to mark AcmeSpecial's view right only for people with BOTH User AND SpecialUser, this doesn't seem possible in Zope's security model. PublicSpecial will only be marked as Viewable for PaidUser. So Johnny should be able to see: Acme, AcmeSpecial, Public, PublicSpecial, but not Slacme and SlacmeSpecial.

One thing we've done some work on was local authentication: we made the global security manager's getPrincipal() return a wrapped principal instead of a string, and fixed a bug or two. I've just started, so I'm not even sure I'm headed in the right direction. My use case, by the way, is an "Address" Field. (In my application, the Address field will be backed by a database of Address objects implementing the IAddress schema.) Comments welcome. Using a ZSQL method from a Python script

Hi, I have made a ZSQL method, which adds a line to a table, much like the hire_employee method in 'the Zope book'. When I test it, an html form appears, I can enter all data, submit. I have also implemented the list_all_employees ZSQL method, and when I test it, I can see that in fact the data have landed in the table correctly. So far, so good. >From what I understand in the Zope book, I can then add new employees from a Python script like this: ------------------ context.hire_employee(42,'bob','uncle',50000.00) return "Done" ------------------ I get an internal server error 500, however, when I hit the test button. The hire_employee method and the Python script are in the same folder. What am I overlooking ? Thanks, Marc

Hi Geir, thanks for your help... I tried this but got an error. And therefor thought this sollution was incorrect, and tried different things with seemingly the same error... Now I noticed that the error I got was from another call to the script (in the root - but it was moved). So I was looking at the wrong place... Another *blush* moment... Accessing pythonscripts in different branch

Hi, On my zope site I use some pythonscripts. I don't like them to be in the root of my site, but can't figure out how to access them when they'r not in the root. For example the menu on top of my webpages is created depending on the main branche of my site. I use a python script for that by including it in my standard_dtml_header file like this: <dtml-var expr="topmenu('branch1')"> The pythonscript "topmenu" is in the rootfolder of my site. Is it possible to move this script to a folder "scripts" and access the script on every page in my website? (How?) (I could find ways of accessing/using pythonscripts from different locations by URL in the Zope Book - feeding/vacinating hippos and stuff, but not in a dtml-var) Thanks, Ria Marinussen

Mixing DTML and Python scripts

Hi, I used to create DTML methods to generate my HTML pages, but several of them are more "logic oriented" than "presentation oriented" (with a lot of <dtml-if...> !). I've seen here and there that Python scripts are really faster than DTML methods to handle such conditions, but I'd like also to keep DTML methods for several ones. Are there any drawbacks to mix DTML methods and Python scripts, calling each other, instead of keeping "pure" DTML methods ?? Thanks for any advise...
