Hi. I am trying to use Zcatalog to index and search documents through their metadata. All my documents must be provided some additional properties (metadata) and the search engine should be able to index and use this additional properties to select the documents. Is this possible with the Zope's search engine. Could you help me understanding how to do it? Please, forgive me if this question sounds silly to some expert users, but I'm quite confused about how to use the Zcatalog functionalities because I did not find any updated document (I am using zope 2.6) that could help me understanding how it works. Thank you

For what it's worth, Zope doesn't restrain you fro integrating anything. Actually it's quite easy to integrate things using Python. The limitations usually lies with the third party product and what support for integration it has. You can use XML-RPC, there are also modules for Soap, SQL, bindings to C/C++ libraries, to some extent Perl and JSP (?), you could use COM (on Windows), you could possibly use XPCOM or you can let Zope call binaries or use traditional protocols like FTP or HTTP. The most common way and imo robust way to integrate third party applications is either through a shard SQL server or a binding to C/C++ libraries. One important factor when integrating components and libraries are that the third party must (should) supply a thread safe component/library. For instance integrating with MS Word via COM isn't really recommended because it's not thread-safe (not to my knowledge any way). BTW perhaps there's a better way to achieve this that I haven't considered, so please let me know. As for the (as yet non-existent) script I mention below - myParseDTML("3.4","Cheques in System", "RA3_4","NRA3_4", "TOT3_4") I was thinking I'd store a list (of lists) in the directory, where one of the elements of the list would be the above. Can I use an external method to generate the html? How? Zipfile and dtml output for dynamic openoffice docs creation

Hi list! I'm learning Zope and Python. I'm trying to generate an openoffice writer doc dynamically. I'm using a dtml method that, by now, has static content and outputs a xml oo writer friendly string (oo format compliant). I'd like to go through this procedure: 1) take the output of the dtml method and feed it into a python script, 2) in the script zip it (forcing something like content.xml to the name of the zipped string taken from 1), 3) and then generate the correct hearders to allow a user with a browser to download the zip file (indeed a sxw document). I've read through python docs and learnt a little about zipfile module, but the write function of a ZipeFile object expects a filename param that must refer to an existing filesystem file. Is it posible to get the output of 1 and generate a zipfile (preferably in memory, StringIO i think), compressing just the that output without the need to save it in the filesystem temporally? Changing Objects properties

Hi I have a newbee question. I have made a form in a DTMLMethod which i'm going to use, to change some properties in an object. Cachable objects

Hi, I'd like to be able to cache several objects of my Zope site in a RAM cache manager. My questions are : - how can I make a class "cachable" ? - is it the whole objects that are cached, or just the result of their called methods ? - when a cached object is modified, is there any way to refresh it in the cache ? - and any other important points about caching that I should take care of... Setting default filename for download

Hello, I want to offer some PDF documents for download by a script. I do this by response = container.REQUEST.RESPONSE pdf = <some code> name = <some reasonable name for this pdf> response.setHeader('Content-type', 'application/pdf' ) response.setHeader('Content-Length', len(pdf)) return pdf I just want to realize that the downloader gets a sane default name for the file to download which is stored in the variable "name" instead of just the name of the script which returns the pdf.
