Problem accessing help in Zope

I'm new to Zope and reading "The Zope Book". Following along with the book, I created a version for making changes and not go live with them until all changes were complete. The problem is unless I am working in the changes version I get the following error when accessing some, but not all, of the help topics: Error Type: VersionLockError Error Value: ('"\\x00\\x00\\x00\\x00\\x00\\x00\\x00\\xec"','/myChanges') Error does not occur in any of the help topics if I am working in myChanges version. I'm using Zope 2.6.1 on Windows 2000. Any assistance would be appreciated. local variable

I've got a python script that sets a variable: notes_eo_counter = 0 And then defines a function: def printNotesRow(columns): if columns[3][:31] == 'Automatic person update notice': print "<tr" if (int(notes_eo_counter) % 2): print 'bgcolor="#ffffff">' else: print 'bgcolor="#' + str(session['CRBGColor']) + '">' print '<td class="bodysmall">' + str(context.fixDate(columns[0])) + '</td>' print '<td class="bodysmall">' + columns[1] + '</td>' print '<td class="bodysmall">' + str(columns[3][36:-1]) + '</td>' print '</tr>' notes_eo_counter = notes_eo_counter + 1 return printed And then calls it: newnotesrow = printNotesRow() if newnotesrow: print newnotesrow return printed This has worked just fine in several scripts, but in this particular one I'm gettin an error: Error Type: UnboundLocalError Error Value: local variable 'notes_eo_counter' referenced before assignment Those lines, although blended with many others, are in that order in the code. I don't know how I'm getting this error and it's driving me nuts. The line that the traceback points to is: if (int(notes_eo_counter) % 2): TIA Rick

a login link

I'd like to provide a link, whereby clicking it would generate a login prompt and then return to the calling page. I thought I'd just create a script, viewable by only the people in the role that I want to login. I did this, and tried just to use, context.REQUEST.RESPONSE.redirect(context.REQUEST['HTTP_REFERER']) This doesn't work. Or I should say, it half works. If the login is successful, the page is returned but the user object hasn't been updated (has_roles() doesn't work) and subsiquent clicks of the link don't prompt for authentication. Can anyone tell me why this isn't doing what I want it to, or how to create a simple "click here to login" script? Cheers, -- Bryan C. I believe that IFRAMES are now supported by all of the major browsers and are part of the HTML 4 recomendation (http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/present/frames.html#h-16.5) I believe their premise also carries over into the XFRAMES draft. There are some general caveats for using iframes (generally the same ones for frames) in that frame to frame communication may be denied if the communicating pages are hosted on different domains and if security levels have not been changed to allow cross domain scripting/communication. This change would have to be performed on each individual machine and cannot be forced through by client side scripting. Hi Carsten, using Zope behind IIS is not a problem at all. You have several options: - use URL rewriting in IIS - use the 404 script - use an apache server in front of iis and zope - .... I meant to say that you need javascript with ordinary frames, not with IFrames. Actually, even with frames you could get away without javascript but then you would have to produce both a frameset and one or more frames, which would be harder. Cheers, Tom P

Problems starting zope server on boot process / Redhat 7.3 I am using zope on a redhat 7.3 vserver (server4free.de) machine for the first time. Up to now I have only experiences with zope on suse 8.0 (zope is preconfigured there). I am trying to get zope started at boot process. - I installed zope correctly on the machine. - changed all the necessary permissions according to http://www.zope.org/Members/markoer2/resources/howtos/redhat_7.3_startup . - the zope startup script starts the zope server correctly - created an init script zope at /etc/rc.d/init.d - registered the zope service with chkconfig --add zope But nevertheless zope won't startup on boot process. When I try to invoke zope manually as root by service zope start I only get env: /etc/init.d/zope: No such file or directory I don't' get any further. What did I wrong? Can you help me? So once you retrieve the remote page (I assume it is an HTML page, but of course it might be something else), the chances are that you will have to do some degree of processing on it.
