hi, i am using BTreeFolder to store around 10000 objects. the problem is when an object is deleted, its id still remains in the ZMI listing of the ids, and when that id is tried to be accessed, i get a Resource Not Found error. I am able to add another object with the same id, and in this case both ids exist. is this a known issue ? or can anyone suggest some way to deal with this ? this is a production server and for obvious reasons, we are not able to replicate the error regards vineeth __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Filter management screens based on user role

Is there any way to make it so that a certain user role can only see one or two types of objects when they view the management screens? For example, I have a user role called "contentProvider" and when he goes to the management screens I want him to see a slightly different manage page that I design. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. thread-safe xml request client

I am writing a product in Zope 2.6 that sends xml requests to servers over SSL. There are a few questions I have about the whole thread-safe issue after reading http://www.zope.org/Documentation/How-To/ThreadSafety as well as some other issues that are coming up. I realized a few parts of my product are mutable so I wrapped those methods in a thread as such: lock = Lock() class HTTPSRequester(SimpleItemWithProperties, Thread): def __init__(self): Thread.__init__(self) "mutable method" def run(self): lock.acquire() self.fetch() lock.release() where fetch() is the method with mutable data. Here are my questions regarding this setup... 1. Is this product actually considered thread-safe now? 2. The fetch method makes a https socket connection using httplib. The first time it runs when zope is restarted it takes a VERY long time to make the socket connection(like 20 -30 seconds) and usually returns an empty string response from the server. The processor utilization goes up to 100% the entire time. However, the second request takes about 1-2 seconds and returns the correct info. I have no idea why it does this and would really like to know why. 3. Is there any way I can create a thread or process that has all of the modules I use opened and ready to use. I figure this might eliminate some overhead on loading all of the modules per execution. 4. I have also noticed that when a user calls this product, Zope will stop responding until the response is returned. I would like to have the product be able to handle multiple simultaneous requests at once. If anyone has dealt with a similar product I would very much appreciate your input. Thanks, Scott

structured text and css

We use structured text in a number of places where we'd like a bit more control over fonts, layout, and spacing than the defaults provide. And we don't want to clutter up the content with markup (for example <div>..</div> with embedded CSS styling.) It occurred to me that a simple solution would be to give a structured text object to have a 'css' property which give the URL of a css style sheet with pre-defined classes for the structured text, and modify the rendering product to reference the stylesheet and associated classes if it is present. A quick google didn't turn up anything in the archives that seemed relevant. Has anyone done anything like this?

Getting server hostname

When Zope starts up, it displays on the console, the current hostname and port its running at. Zope with Apache in Win2k

I just installed the Zope program on a win2k server, with Apache Web server. I used PCGI for passing authentication information to Zope, via Apache. However, Zope will not accept my admin username and password. Here are the steps I have followed: 1) Zope install as a win2k Service 2) In Apache conf file, ScriptAlias the Zope directory (where zope.cgi is). 3) Rename Zope.cgi to Zope.pcgi (Assigning read-execute permissions) 4) gp to the Registry, and transform: \Services\Zope\parameters\start "D:\..\python.exe" "D:\...\zope\z2.py" -S into "D:\..\python.exe" "D:\...\zope\z2.py" -S -p "D:\...\zope\zope.pcgi" After restarting my system, pointed my browser to http://localhost/zope/zope.pcgi/manage , asked me for username and paswd, and REFUSED to let me in. Have I missed something here???? Any help would be appreciated.. Manos

(as opposed to invoking it). The object tells you about itself when it is rendered, but you really want to call it instead. You probably want <dtml-var "clickable_graph()"> Cheers, Tom P

It is very reliable on both. It is also easy to install. You do need to edit the registry to run on a port other than the default 8080, but this is also easy. Bob Corriher P-Wave Inc

Zope on Windows 2000 or 2003 Server?

We run on Windows 2000 Server with no problem, as long as Service Pack 2 or later is installed. With SP 1, there is a huge performance problem executing code that does many small allocations, which is typical for Python 2.1. Zope + SOAP

Hi, I have to implement something using web-services for my student research project. I have to use Zope and should use SOAP (not XML-RPC ...). I have found some python webservice-/ soap-libraries: - SOAPpy [http://pywebsvcs.sourceforge.net/] - Webservice [http://cvs.zope.org/Packages/WebService/] - wstools [http://pywebsvcs.sourceforge.net/] - ZSI [http://pywebsvcs.sourceforge.net/] Using them to consume a webservice should not be a problem ... (there even exists a product called SOAPMethod [http://www.zope.org/Members/xgwsbae/SOAPMethod] But what about SERVING a webservice build on SOAP with ZOPE? Is it possible to build something using these Libraries? I found a patch for Zope by guylux with which it should be possible for Zope to handle SOAP-Requests ([http://www.zope.org/Members/guylux/Zope-soap] This Patch modifies the HTTPRequest.py in the Zope/libs/python/ZPublish-Directory, so Zope handles SOAP-Requests almost like it handles XML-RPCs ... (my?) Problem: just works for SOAP-Calls without Arguments :( Is there a possibility to write a Product to Serve Webservices or will I have to "patch" the Zope sources (like the guylux-patch) or will I even have to do something different? Has Anybody ever done something like this? Any help would be appreciated ... -- Thanks, Holger
