Since I'm new to Zope, I've been able to jump at ZPT from the beginning without needing to "unlearn" DTML first... One thing nags me though: I use ZPT for my product classes web methods when while constructing an intranet. However it doesn't seem that I can use the same web methods inside ZMI, since ZMI still uses DTML and presents its tabs through the DTML variable "standard_header". What do people generally do when using ZPT? Do you create separate editforms/display files for both ZPT (for use in you own application) and DTML (for use in ZMI)? Or have I missed some vital point? - Carsten

Strange error using DTML with MySQL to build a Select List

I have encountered strange behavior building a DTML data entry form. I built a form that includes a <SELECT> field and I populate the field like this: =========================== <tr><td> <select size="1" name="company_contact_id" > <option value=0 >Unknown </option> <dtml-in ListCompanyStaff> <dtml-if "account_id == selected_company_contact_id"> <option value=<dtml-var account_id> selected><dtml-var full_name></option> <dtml-else> <option value=<dtml-var account_id>><dtml-var full_name></option> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> </select> </td></tr> =========================== Where "ListCompanyStaff" is a ZSQL Method that looks like this: =========================== select concat(ifnull(a.first_name,''),' ',a.last_name, ' (from: ' , a.country_code1,', acct id:',a.account_id,')' ) full_name, ifnull(a.account_id,0) account_id from account as a where user_type = 'STAFF' and account_status = 'ACTIVE' order by upper(a.last_name), upper(a.first_name), upper(a.middle_initial) =========================== And it generates a <SELECT> statement that looks like this (cut from the source code of the generated page). I get it immediately when the SUBMIT button is pressed. Here is the strange part -- if I cut the Select statement from the source code generated by DTML, and place it into the DTML document in place of the <DTML-IN> clause, the form works fine. So the question seems to be: Why does using DTML to generate the SELECT statement cause it to blow up when the SUBMIT button is pressed -- which is when if happens? Any ideas would be appreciated. Using __setstate__?

Hi all, I need to check for upgrades and plugins from existing instances of a web application, but the process is going to be fairly intensive, and I don't want it to get called too often. Basically I need for it to be called any time the product is refreshed or Zope restarted. This means that it should get called on each instance whenever the source files are (re-)interpreted and imported. If I just put this into __setstate__, I'm afraid it will get called rather more frequently than that, but I'm not familiar enough with it to know how much of a problem that's likely to be. Obviously just using the __setstate__ hook would be the easiest solution. Is there a better hook to use? If not, I had considered giving my class a class property based on the date, and then checking that in __setstate__ to determine if any further work should be done: class MyClass(...): import_date = DateTime() def __init__(self, ...): self.current_import_date = self.import_date def __setstate__(self, state): if self.import_date != self.current_import_date: pass # Actually do my update work here self.current_import_date = self.import_date In the absence of a standard solution, this seems like the simplest approach. Is this the way to go, or am I overlooking some "batteries" somewhere? Obviously the idea is to allow my instances to take advantage of newly installed plugins after a simple restart or refresh instead of having to create new instances every time something is changed (which would get to be a royal PITA in production use). ImportError: No module named sha

I am using Zope 2.6.1 and have tried using several clean versions of python 2.2 + 2.1 but still get the error below. I have also tried finding this module in the appropriate directories and it doesn't exist. Anyone have an idea? 3 level menu + ZPT, suggestions!

Hi guys. In my site there is the folder items that contains generic items, similar to the following example: /-items +-cars +-bmw +-maserati +-objects +-pencil +-rubber +-colors +-red +-white and so on.. i need a navigation menu structured in this way: a list of main-category links(cars, objects, colors); when i click one of them i get various sub-items links, and again, when i click on some sub-item i get a description in the main part of the page. This should explain what i want: Menù:(when i click objects link) cars objects pencil rubber colors Menù:(when i click colors link) cars objects colors red white Well, i tried to implement all this "machinery"; when a main-category is clicked all works fine.. but when sub-category is clicked menu is rendered incorrectly. Python Script Security Question

I don't seem to understand the Security applied to a script. I have a file object named config. It has an integer property next_person_id. I use it to create ids for some other objects. It gets incremented and used. I have a python script named next_personID which is called from another script against the file config. It should increment the next_person_id property of the config object and then return the new value of the property. This script and the one that calls it are owned by a user with the manager security role. Here is the script: The python script next_personID is """ Increment the next person_id and return it """ # Increment the ID id = context.next_person_id + 1 # Update the stored ID context.manage_changeProperties(next_person_id=id) #return the ID as a string with a p_ prefix return "p_" + str(id) When another user who does not have the manager role runs the script that calls this one against the config object, this script fails because the user does not have permission to do the manage_changeProperties call. If I add 'manage properties' permission on the object config to a role this user has, then the script runs properly. So it appears to me that the script runs with the user's permission rather than the owners' permission (which I expected). Can anyone help me understand why the script doesn't run with its owners' (a manager) permission to manage properties? Thanks, Tom Nichols tom(a)westlong.com

dtml-call fails silently, bug or feature...

Coming back for maintenance to a DTML site and noticed something strange... <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-call somethingThatDoesntExist> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> ...fails silently and does nothing ! I mean there is no AttributeError or such exception saying that there's no "somethingThatDoesntExist" object. Is it a bug or a feature ? Noticed in a Zope 2.3.3 and tested (with the same result) with Zope 2.6.1 Thanks in advance. --Gilles
