Using MySQL from a product

I amd creating a product, that needs to communicate with MySQL (inserting/updating records and making select queries). I've installed MySQLdb and Z MySQLDA and can easily create connections from ZMI. I don't know however, how to communicate directly with MySQL from my product. Should I rely on a connection created in ZMI? Or do I create my own connection - if so: how? And how do I make the queries? - Carsten

Umlauts with in Structured Text

He folks, I have a Problem with the structured text Module: The follwing text does not show up in bold: 'some text **Matthäus 22,37-39** some more text' The Umlauts themself show up fine. I am using Zope 2.6.1 on an windows machine. Any Ideas ? Thanks, Volker Wend

Zope 2.7: You are not allowed to access 'SESSION' in this context

I have a page template that is accessed via restrictedTraverse(), and gives me an Unauthorized error when I try to access request/SESSION. It doesn't seem to be directly related to restrictedTraverse(), because I switched it for unrestrictedTraverse() and had the same problem. Thanks, Alec Munro

Newbie Q: How do you backup the data? Where is everything anyway?

Greetings! I just installed Zope and Plone and am trying to get the hang of it by playing with it and working my way through the available documentation. I just figured out that folders, paths and files (e.g. /thefirst/portal_skins/plone_styles/ploneCustom.css - "thefirst" is the Plone site I just created) don't actually represent actual files in the file system (this is on a Linux box), but seem to be stored somwhere else, apparently in the ZODB (my reading seems to suggest this). However, I don't know where this object database stores its information - var/Data.fs does not exist on my system (one article I found said that this was the place where the ZODB data was to be found) - and even if I found it, I'd still need to know how to back it up. With my favourit SQL database, PostgreSQL, for instance, you are disencouraged to simply copy the directories where PostgreSQL stores its data since this would break the transactional integrity (or you'd have to stop the server to do it which isn't really optimal . . . ). Thus you have a special utility, pg_dump, which dumps your data into flat files that can be read back into the server if need be. Hence my questions: Where are the data to be found and how do you back them up? Is there a way to read them out into a file/format that is not binary, that can be viewed with a text editor as a plain file? Regards, Frank

Funky dates

Hi All, I just imported an old Zope folder with a bunch of DTML Documents into Zope 2.6.1. I need to sort them by date, but the modification date has changed on all of them to today. But, all of the Documents have date property, unfortunately, the date property is not behaving like one anymore. If I try to use <dtml-var date fmt=pCommon> I get: Error Type: TypeError Error Value: not all arguments converted If I try to use <dtml-var date fmt=%A> I get: Error Type: ValueError Error Value: unsupported format character 'A' (0x41) at index 1 Anyone recognize the problem or know a fix? Blogging frameworks on top of CMF?

I'm looking for a very easy to use (at least, for the client) blogging framework that runs on CMF, or (probably better) Plone. The people using this will be nonexpert computer users, so the easier the better. If it has any way to post blogs via email, all the better. Thanks for any suggestions! Problems with python script

Hi, I've downloaded the 30 days trial version of editize and followed the instructions in http://plone.org/Members/tlynch/HowToIntegrateEditize to install it. Everything runs smoothly until the creation of munge.py as explained in the above link. I get an error saying " Script line 4 inputvalue = inputvalue.replace("\r", "") ^ SyntaxError: invalid syntax" A curious thing is that when i save it, not only i get the above error, but also the lines begining with double cardinal (##) are gone!!! Also the text refers to "Note: you might need to edit the line calling munge in wysiwyg_support to reflect the name of your folder where all the Editize stuff is stored." Where is this is done ? Help with exUserfolder( CVS - postgres auth ) and Groupuserfolder ( CVS ) - a showstopper 'bug'

I'm having very very strange performance problem with exUserFolder with Group Userfolder - but only when using PostgreSql authentication source. With ZODB authsource or without GRUF everything works just fine without any problems. This is a very nasty almost showstopper for me, so any help would be appreciated and I can atleast offer a beer in Europython 2004, if not even something else. Like said this is almost a showstopper that I need to overcome ,-6 Setup: Zope 2.6.1 Python 2.2.2 ZEO exUserFolder from CVS GroupUserFolder from CVS Plone 1.0.3 When using postgres authentication source inside Gruf every request takes many seconds more to finish. First I thought that the problem was same that I had before: http://www.google.fi/search?q=sqlListUsers+%2B+performance+%2B+Zope&ie=UTF-… But even changing caching on sql methods had no effect. Caching on exUserFolder itself shows following: Total Access: 117 Hits: 2 1.71% Misses -- not in cache 111 94.87% Misses -- wrong password 0 0.00% Misses -- session timed out 4 3.42% And from Call Profiler I see: sqlListOneUser +0.0155 0.0002 0.0% | +- sqlListUsers +0.0156 0.0002 0.0% | | +- sqlListUsers (2nd call) +0.0158 0.0002 0.0% | | | +- sqlListUsers (3rd call) .... Continue Total time for a page was more than 7 seconds, when with normal user folder or without gruff it was 0.3 seconds. both on sqlListUsers and sqlListUser I have set maximum time to cache to 10 seconds, but that does not seem to help at all. Properties of exUserFolder: Credential Cache Timeout 20 secs Negative Credential Cache Timeout 20 secs Any help would be very appreciated. GRUF and Exuserfolder are both great tools and I need to be able to use them together for the sake of requirements in certain functionality. -huima

Problem with IIS and PCGI

I'm running Zope behind an IIS using PCGI. This is set up the real basic way. I've created a virtual website in IIS with the hostheader "intranet.tvsyd2.dk", and added zope.pcgi and pcgi-wrapper.exe to the root folder of this website. At the same time I'm using the Virtual Host Monster with this line ----------------------------- intranet.tvsyd2.dk/zope.pcgi/tvsyd ----------------------------- So every time a user enters the address: http://intranet.tvsyd2.dk they are sent into the folder "tvsyd" in Zope. This all works well. The trouble comes here: When i create a subfolder in "tvsyd" (eg. "technical") and tries to make a link to it with this TAL code: ------------------------------- <span tal:repeat="foldy python:here.objectValues(['Folder'])" tal:omit-tag=""> <a href="URL" tal:attributes="href foldy/absolute_url" tal:content="foldy/title_or_id">TITLE OR ID</a> <br> </span> -------------------------------- the url to the subfolder ought to be "intranet.tvsyd2.dk/zope.pcgi/technical" but it isn't. Instead it is: "intranet.tvsyd2.dk/technical". The "zope.pcgi" is omitted, which means that IIS cannot figure out what to do. I returns an error message saying that "technical" does not exist. What should I do? - Carsten

In which context should they be used ? - is there any help and/or doc about them ? - anything to know about...??
