Thanks to everyone who offered assistance with this problem. The problem has been resolved. It turns out it was nothing to do with the catalog but a call being made in the ZPT that was causing the problem.

xml.dom.minidom

Hi List, I am trying to use the xml.dom.minidom praseString routine. Zope hangs

Hi, I'm running Zope 2.6.1 on Redhat 9, and am working through the online Zope Book. Roughly every hour or so, the Zope server hangs and I have to restart it. What would cause this? I'm considering Zope for a financial institution's internal processing ... is Zope really reliable and secure enough? Other data, like form data, I consider to be in a separate category - Zope helps me to obtain it, but then it is just some (generally non-zope) data that is not specifically related to the site. Such data I normally to put into a relational database. Obviously there is no one right answer, and if you are going to get just a small amount of data, and you already know how you are going to work with it, ZODB is fine. If you are mainly going to display it, and Zope's normal machinery will sort, filter, and combine it the way you want, stick with the ZODB. But if you will get a lot of data, and especially if you need the most flexibility in working with it later, by all means use a relational database. I had one project where I stored form responses in a relational database, used DTML sql queries to produce reports that I published with Zope. Later when we were asked to do more analysis, I used Tidy to turn the Zope reports into XML, then used xslt and svg to analyze the data and produce charts - strange, but it turned out to be the best approach in this case (I had to merge in some more data that was not in electronic form, and did not fit the existing table structures) To sum up, I recommend using a relational database for most jobs like this, but be flexible! Zopistas: If there is a simple form named "Form_1" and created within the web ZMI in a DTMLDocument object, like: <dtml-if mensaje_error> <dtml-var mensaje_error> </dtml-if> <form action="product/validate_Form_1" method="post"> <input type="text" name="account"> <input type="submit" name="submit" value="Enter >"> </form> I have also built a Zope product which works fine, it is instantiated in the same Folder as "Form_1" with the id "product" and it provides the method "validate_Form_1" which is something quite simple to validate errors: def validate_Form_1(self,REQUEST,RESPONSE): "Code to validate form1" if not REQUEST.account: self.REQUEST['msg_error']="Account code is required" elif len(self.REQUEST['account']) < 1: self.REQUEST['msg_error']="Account lenght < 1 " elif len(self.REQUEST['account']) > 6: self.REQUEST['msg_error']="Account lenght > 6" REQUEST=self.REQUEST return self.Form_1(REQUEST) My problem is, everytime the Form_1 is returned from the validate_Form_1, the URL in the browser starts growing like: http://localhost:8080/Folder/Form_1 <--- Initial call, works OK http://localhost:8080/Folder/product/Form_1 <---First validation http://localhost:8080/Folder/product/product/Form_1 <----2nd pass. and so on.... I want the .../product/product/... not to start growing with every pass through the product's methods. I want the return, to print in the browser's URL the actual path to the Form_1, if possible, without the "product" .... What would be the way of doing that? I have tried RESPONSE.redirect instead of just "return self.Form_1(REQUEST)" with absolute_url() and using things like REQUEST['HTTP_REFERER'] but in those cases I am not able to pass any parameters back (REQUEST) Your assistance, comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated...Thanks in advance Edward.

very slow zcatalog

Hi there, I am a relative newbie to zope and have a question about the zcatalog. I have a directory filled with nearly 6000 Plone folders. Each of these folders holds information about a business in my town and they are contained in a zcatalog. The problem is that a search generally takes about 50 seconds. A search for a business can be done by Business Category, Business Type, Location, Keywords or a combination of any of these. The business category and business type are both keyword indexes, the location is a field index and the keywords is a text index. Results are sorted by a searchValue which is a field index. The query is shown below: tal:define="results python:here.businessCatalog(meta_type='Plone Folder', location_d=location, types=type, keywords=key_words, sub_types=sub_type, sort_on='searchValue', sort_limit=30)" In my attempts to speed this process up I have made sure the cache is large enough (8000) and have tried turning on subtransactions and setting the threshold to 10000. I am yet to taste success with this problem. If anyone can help me speed up the search I would be enormously greatful.
