run multiple instances with zopectl

Hi, I'm running a debian woody box with zope 2.6.2 and zopectl 0.3.1. I've created a second config file in the /etc/zopectl directory containig the options for the second instance and created the files for it using 'zopectl init instance2'. But if I try to start the two zope instances the first (default) one comes up correctly and the second one dies after a few moments. 2004-01-25T23:42:09 PANIC(300) z2 Startup exception Traceback (innermost last): File /usr/lib/zope/z2.py, line 759, in ? Tutorial Instance

Hello: I'm presently using Zope (unreleased version, python 2.2.3, linux2) from Debian "Sarge". Right from the get go, I had issues of it not working properly. The first was attempting to run the tutorial, I couldn't becasue it said the Gadfly database wasn't installed, it was. So I got around that, by creating a Gadfly directory in '/var/lib/zope/instance/default/var/'. Alessio, We are piloting a very similar system (plain Zope, no Plone). A few lessons we learned that you might benefit from: 1. Use DirectoryStorage for your ZODB. It is highly stable, scalable, resilient to corruption, easily backed up, etc, etc. The secret to its success is that it uses one file per Zope revision, rather than a single Data.fs. If you do so, you might also consider using reiserfs because it is better with large numbers of files. And there will be a lot! (I believe this only applies to Linux.) 2. Do not store binaries in the ZODB. Your ZODB will grow plenty large with metadata revisions without shoving files into it, too. Ours hit 20GB at one point because I forgot to pack it for a while. If at all possible, store the files themselves outside of Zope. 3. Use BTreeFolders if you can, to speed retrieval. This may not be an issue with Plone. 4. Investigate ZCatalogs thoroughly to make sure they meet your needs. We are about to jump ship in favor of a relational database, simply because ZCatalogs are not as well suited to our purposes. DBObjects and CMF

Is anyone out there using the DBObjects relational-to-object mapping product ( http://www.zope.org/Members/srichter/Products/DBObjects )? Anyone using similar products? If so, how do they compare? Ape problems

CookieCrumbler and downloading files

I have been running into problems downloading files when using CookieCrumbler 1.1 (standalone) with Zope 2.6.2. This has been mentioned before on this list with a solution to download a CVS version. Anyone care to provide more explicit instructions? What CVS version solves the problem. What exactly has to be downloaded ? (and for the CVS impaired -- what is the recommended procedure/strategy for obtaining and installing CVS updates to products). I have also found that the CookieCrumbler product included as part of CMF 1.3.1 ( or is it part of Plone 1.0.5?) does not exhibit this problem but I am currently reluctant to have that(those?) in my system just to solve this problem. ZSyncer and subfolders

Hello, I'm trying to use ZSyncer to sync a folder on one zope to a destination subdirectory on another zope. (IOW, not necessarily with the same parent folder struture). In other words, I want to sync /foo/bar on one zope to /development/foo/bar on the other zope - and no matter what (sub)directories I place the zsyncer objects in on the two zopes, I always get an exact copy of the source's folder structure - I always get /foo/bar on the destination. I have even tried using vhosts & vhm to sync to a 'virtual' root of /development, and yet it still doesn't work - even with the ZSyncer object in '/development' on the destination, and syncing to development.myhost.com/ (which points to 'myhost.com/development' in the destination zope), I *still* get the objects dumped in the physical Zope root. I certainly assumed that, intuitively, the relative positions of the souce & dest ZSyncer objects WRT their respective zope roots would have determined the relative positions of the subsequent syncing activity - apparently not so; they start from the Zope physical root, regardless of even vhost settings. This certainly makes it impossible to sync partial directory trees, or sync multiple sites (such development, staging) to one zope site (such as production). I have searched extensively in all the archives, and cannot find this issue mentioned - although it would seem to me to be a very obvious eaarly stumbling block to adoption of ZSyncer, so perhaps I am doing something fundamentally wrong, and there is an easy solution out there to this that someone can point out to me.
