I can't seem to figure out what the equivalent code would be to use in a ZPT. Can someone provide me the answer? I have the following statement working in my dtml-documents: <dtml-in expr="methods.dropdown( listname='state' )" > <option value="<dtml-var item_value>"><dtml-var item_name></option> </dtml-in> Here is an explanation of what the code does. The end result is that the contents of select lists are based off of data from the database. <dtml-in expr="methods.dropdown( listname='state' )" > # this line calls to the dropdown zsql method in the methods folder and tells it that the variable listname should equal state <option value="<dtml-var item_value>"><dtml-var item_name></option> # this line just puts in the two variables that the zsql method has returned and puts in item_value and item_name (two columns in the db table) into the correct place </dtml-in> # this is just the closing tag

Archetypes and WEBDAV

I was playing around with Archetypes 1.2.3, and looking at PloneArticle, a very nice example. After instantiating a PloneArticle and filling it's slots with stuff, I checked it out under a WEBDAV client. The article showed up as a folder (collection), but there was nothing inside. Does anyone know if Archetypes supports WEBDAV? It seems to me that it would be pretty cool to be able to deal with the various fields in an Archetype container, and have it (I guess) look like a folder full of content... M

ZServer base framework

Hi, Just a question to ZServer experts... Why Zope developer chose Medusa ? I made a short run with Medusa and Twisted, and it seems that using Twisted is easier and more flexible. But perhaps I'm missing something. Note this is not a troll but just a question :-) -- Gilles

single iterations over duplicate values

I have a dtml method that accepts input from a zsql method and dtml-in is used to loop over the result set. However, there are duplicate values in the query result set(by design) but i want to list only one iteration of each value in my dtml method. Does anyone know how to do this, ie skip over duplicate results? regards garry

Best development tools and methods for Zope development?

Hi ya all, since it is a new year, I would like to start 2004 by doing a little survey with people about development tools and methods people actively use. You can either reply privately or publicly and I will collect the answers and produce a report about it. Please answer the questions below before 17 th January and everyone can soon benefit from the shared knowledge. Below are also my answers as examples. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Zope and Python versions currently used in production? Zope 2.6.2 and Python 2.2.3. I'm currently testing 2.7b3 2. CMF / Plone versions in production CMF1.3.2, Plone 1.0.5 Now moving into 1.4.2 and Plone 2 from CVS on new projects. 3. Development and production platforms? Windows as the desktop/frontend machine and Linux running Zope and other backend software. As a linux distribution I use either fedora core or older redhat versions. 4. Editors, IDEs used? WingIDE as IDE. I am a new user to WingIDE - but very impressed with it's functionalities like autocompletion of functions, the possibility to jump into function definitions from code, browse source and naturally debug Zope. I loved to use Eclipse for it's great CVS integration and otherwise great UI - but there really is no real integration of Python into Eclipse. Trustudio python plugin brings in syntax highlighting and that is it. Komodo I used before because I liked it's UI. Have never used Emac's Python module. 5. Zope installations ( Zeo? Instance home? ), ZODB ( FileStorage, DirectoryStorage, APE?), RDBMS Zeo on larger production setups, instance home used on all instances - in development and in production. I use mostly use Filsetorage as the ZODB, though I have done some tests with APE and keep a close eye on it in the future. I'm extremely interested on the possibility to store objects in relational databases. PostgreSQL as RDBMS, using Psycopg as the adapter. 6. Sourcecode-control( CVS, Subversion? ), clients used CVS. TortoiseCVS and/or WinCVS. WinCVS UI is terrible and I would like to get a better tool for doing diffs and getting older revisions etc. from CVS. I don't like command line CVS since I was totally spoiled with Eclipse's extremely nice CVS integration. 7. How to do debugging? I've been using Python debugger on hard problems, otherwise I've usually just printed out to log or to screen debugging information. I will start to use now more WingIDE's debugger. Haven't used python debugger on Zeo installation, nor have I used the zctl-script 8. Profiling, tuning and improving performance? CallProfiler and PT_Profiler as profiling tools. Apache's ab as a tool to create load while testing performance. On production servers I keep Zope atleast behind Apache - possibly Squid and Apache if caching is needed. With Apache I use proxypass, not rewrite-rules. 9. Notes about development I keep as much as possible on the filesystem, so that it can be put into versioning system. On Plone sites I try to create customization policies so that properties of the site are also kept in the code format. This makes it also easier to keep development instances and production instances in sync. Archetypes is naturally beloved too and used as a base, when creating new content types. 10. ZSQL Method "Maximum rows to retrieve" 0 for unlimited number of rows.

Hi Zopistas: Happy new year. I have seen references on "Using '0' for unlimited" for the "Maximum rows to retrieve" on the Advanced tab of ZSQL Methods. I tried it and does not actually work; it returns exactly CERO rows when 0 is put in there. This is being used with Zope 2.6.2, PostgreSQL 7.4 and Psycopg 1.0.14 Also, looking into Zope's source code I couldn't find that "0 for unlimited" feature. Does this feature (0 for unlimited) has been removed from Zope 2.6.2 or, in any case, what happened to it? how to enable it? Could some of you please comment on the above. ? For the record, I know, that the returned "batch" has to be managed/controlled by other (additional) means as to prevent overflows, large waiting times,crashes etc. etc. Thanks in advance for your comments. I have run separate Plone and Zope installations on the same computer (Windows 2000). Of course, you have to run them on different ports. If you expect to get help, you had best say what operating system you are using. Plone and Zope on the same machine

I have Plone installed (which has its own ZOPE Server I believe) and Zope on the same server. I can manage one or the other (depending on which one is started) but not both at the same time. I have tried changing the start.bat file and added the -P switch or -w switch to have it run on a different port, but nothing is served from the manage screen (File not found). Can anyone give me a quick tutorial on what I am doing wrong! Rick

Experience with Ape

Hi everyone, we are playing around with Ape and DBTab. It seems really a nice product, and we would like to migrate our application to it. Our main concern is scalability. As far as we see, it seems that it can easily generate tables with lot of entries. We will have to put easily 100.000 objects in it, so we could come up with tables with more than 1.000.000 entries. Has someone tried with a similar setup ? Which are the performance using a SQL storage using a large number of objects ? Thank you and happy new year. One letter search in ZCatalog

I apoligize in advance if this is a simple problem that has been addressed previously, I have looked through the archives with no luck. I put together a ZCatalog Search (PrincipiaSearchSource), I thought it was working fine, then I noticed that if I do a search for a single character (standard alphanumeric) it returns: Error Type: IndexError Error Value: list index out of range This will not do. I need a simple solution to make this error not occur, either make the Search search for these single characters, or give the user a message saying their search must include more characters. It's quite a hassle to get more things installed on this Zope server, so if there is a solution with just the basic Zope 2.6 install that would be preferable.
