Sorry about the last email :) Here's the full thing Hi all, I have a simple problem that I cannot seem to solve. I want to display a Flash (.swf) file in a page template. Display Success Message if file is uploaded successfully.. HELP!

Hi I have a form which allows user to upload a file and then click submit. This will lead to a dtml-method which will prefom a series of manipulation. After this is done, this method will need to return to the previous page( ie. form ). My question is how do i add a 'UPLOAD SUCCESSFUL' message in this form if the file is uploaded? I mean when the user first enters this form, he should not see the message. Only when the successful uploading will he see it. We are used to thyinking about a standard look and feel for pages. The standard "page" macro is used to implement this standard look and feel. Unfortunately, there are a number of different kinds of pages. For example, some pages are like dialogs. For such pages, it doesn't make sense do display some page elements. We had created two page macros, "page" and "dialog". These macros were very similar and had overlapping contents. The folks working on these macros wanted to have a single macro and a variable to be used by the macro to disable some page elements depending on how the page was being used. So far so good. There is a notion that the page usage might be a configuration option. The thought is that the same template might be used for both "view" pages and "dialog" pages. I think that this is rather questionable. When someone designes a page, they probably know, or should know, how it is going to be used. To take things further, it was thought that all of the pages referenced by a manu should have the same usage and that the usage for a template should be *implied* by the menu that contains the menu item that references the page used by the template. I understand the motivation for this, but it is really problematic, for two reasons: 1. It is very implicit (automatic;) 2. The menu system just wasn't designed to support this sort of thing. The menu system is really only responsible for navigation. It is not responsible for implementation of referenced pages. How can I get the date that a user last logged into my Zope site, I have looked high and low but can't find out how to do this in DTML. regards garry

Confused about caching

I am building a zope based application to manage the (medium) volume delivery of a large number of what are essentially static documents from a central server. The server itself is a Win2003 server -- I think with 3.x Mhz cpu, 1 gbyte of memory and reasonably fast hard disks but I don't have full control over it. It is only being used as a zope server -- no other requirements. I have no control of upstream caching ( though there are caches strategically deployed in this corporation to manage bandwidth usage). I am looking at local caching options available in Zope 2.6.2 (Ram Cache, Accelerated HTTP Cache) and am not sure I understand the purpose and usage of those products. Is it likely that I will be better off using no local caching? If one of the standard Cache products is recommended how do I configure it? How are elements associated with the cache? Can I locate the cache in a "sub directory" and have it cache all elements below it in the hierarchy automatically.

meta_type in DTML returns incorrect type

I'm working with the AddressBook example from the book, "Zope Bible". The example uses the following to conditionally display an edit link for an AddressBook entry in the object's index_html (rendered via a DTMLFile() object): <dtml-if "meta_type=='AddressBook Entry'"> | <a href="./editEntryForm">Edit Entry</a></dtml-if> However, this never renders an "Edit Entry" link because meta_type's value is 'AddressBook' (i.e. the type of the containing object) and not the expected value 'AddressBook Entry'. I've verified this by printing out the type of self.meta_type. How do I force the object's type to be referenced by the DTMLFile object? In case it matters, I'm using Zope 2.6.1 and Python 2.1 on OpenBSD 3.3. I've tried to invoke the Python debugger, but the ZODB can't even find the object in question.

Site Visit Logging

I've been hosting a small Zope site for over 2 years now. I'm using ZPT, Python Scripts, and ZSQLiteDA and have been able to develop a simple Zope Product. My Zope system is version 2.5.1 running on a Windows 98 box. I want to implement a simple site visit log. It would be easy enough to put a conventional page-visit counter somewhere on the site's home page, but I don't want to just count the visits to that page. I really want to get a log of all the accesses to the site, regardless of which page or file the http request accesses. I realize this is like a very conventional http access log, but I want to implement a simple access log totally within the ZODB. One possible solution, using existing products, might be to use the SiteAccess product's AccessRule code to log the pertinent information from the Request object into the ZODB. Is that a reasonable solution, or is there a more Zopeish way to go about this? I'm continuing to dig through the docs and through google but any pointers are much appreciated. Thanks, Bill
