sequence.sort on a property of contained objects

Hi, I have several zope folders on the FSDV and I want to display their titles in a certain order with a ZPT. Since folders on FSDV can not have property of their own, I created a FS property object, whose id is 'property', in each of the folders. And each 'property' objects contains a property 'menu_order', according to which the folders should be sorted. I try to use the following code to sort the folders: <ul tal:define="folders here/get_folders; sort_on python:(('property/menu_order', 'cmp', 'asc'),); sorted_folders python:sequence.sort(folders, sort_on)"> But it seems the sort condition can not contain path expression to access 'property/menu_order'. It takes the whole as a property of the folder object and wouldn't treat 'property' as an object contained in the folder and get its property 'menu_order'. As a result, no sort is performed. Is there any solution to this except for writing a custom sort function of my own? Thanks, Hong Yuan

Errors while running the Thumbnails example code

Hello, i'm trying to run the example code from "The Zope Book": http://www.plope.com/Books/2_7Edition/ScriptingZope.stx#1-5 However, there are several errors. The first error that I get is the following: ,---- | Error Type: NameError | Error Value: global name 'Image' is not defined `---- I looked into the PIL tutorial and found out that they use 'import Image' instead of 'import PIL'. A couple of questions from a newbie

Hello, everyone. I've been reading up on Zope, and it's quite interesting; I still have a couple questions that The Zope Book doesn't answer, though. First of all, is there any reason to use a relational database instead of the ZODB? I would think that the ZODB would get bad performance when filled with too many user-created objects, like forum posts; is that true? Also, is it better for a Python script to call a page template or vice-versa? I would think that it would be better for the template to call the script so that other scripts and templates can use the script's output, and so that it can be cached without caching the template's header and footer which might be user-specific, but The Zope Book usually has the script calling the template.

Odd sessioning issues with ExUserFolder.

Hi List, I'm using ExUserFolder, with zope as the authentication source, and MySQL as the properties source. I have a custom login form, which calls a script called process_login, an exerpt of which follows: from AccessControl import getSecurityManager request = container.REQUEST result = container.acl_users.validate(request=request) name = getSecurityManager().getUser().getUserName() This seems to work fine, except in rare circumstances. I'm unsure exactly of the details of those circumstances, but what happens is that sometimes when a user logs in, they are redirected to the standard ExUserFolder login form, with a message similar to "session expired, please log in". This also generates an event in the error log, typed "LoginRequired". My suspicion is that this happens to users who have logged in before, and what is happening is that it checks their cookie, finds it expired, and rather than processing the login as new, invalidates the entire request, and redirects them to the standard login form. external editor woes

Hello all, I seem to be having this error in trying to use the external editor: ++ If you are using IE and you receive an error from the helper app like "FATAL ERROR [Errno 2] No such file or directory...." it means that IE is refusing to save the temp file to disk. This is usually caused by a cache control header such as "Cache-Control: no-cache". To use external editor with IE you must prevent this header from being set. Some versions of CookieCrumber inject this header for all authenticated requests. You can fix this by changing the CC configuration on its properties tab in the ZMI to use another cache control value such as "private". ++ I can't seem to find the place to change it specifically. Can someone hold my hand on this one and point me to the right spot? All/any help would be most appreciated. Thanks. N.B., I don't know if this adds any info, but i just tried to use the external editor via zope.org to edit my "frontpage" and i get the same error. Hurm. Maybe it is not my installation at all... Problem with Python Script in RAM Cache

I wanted to cache a Python script in the ZOPE ram cache manager, but it did not work. I did hear that "RAM cache manager can only cache picklable objects". I do not understand, what that means. I heard that a dictionary would be a "picklable" object. My script returns a sequence (actually the results from a search in the PLONE catalog by the searchresults method). Does that mean, I would have to change my python script so that it would return a dictionary instead of a sequence to be able to be cached by a ram cache manager? Can anybody help me?
