I'm going to need to pass some status messages to a business partner over UDP. I've already written that Python code. At the moment it's intended to be called from various batch scripts. But the partner also wants one particular message to be triggered from a process that happens via web form. Am I going to have to turn the underlying code into a Product? Or is a Python Script going to be sufficient? Are there sandbox issues? (The code does some file reading and writing, uses struct.pack(), uses string.strip(), time.time()...)

<rant> This is such a bunch of bullshit. I am so tired of "the answer is out there somewhere, why can't you find it yourself?" being the justification for not helping people who ask reasonable questions. To add insult to injury Asad was being quite courteous (e.g. he went so far as to thank you for your initial response) and you guys just start jumping all over him. Please explain to me why the mailing list should be a solution-of-last-result??? After all, you can find the solution to every question by looking at the Zope source code...ergo, all questions to the mailing list are a waste of time because the person didn't have the time to go picking through the source code? Personally, I am more than happy to help people with questions if I know the answer off the top of my head. ***What is the big deal?!?*** Just because the answer exists somewhere doesn't mean I expect people to spend lots of their time (**which is valuable too by the way**) to go digging it out. Zope (and Plone) are very complicated systems and not all of us hack the source code to Zope on a daily basis so we don't know all the "ins and outs". If you consider it a waste of your time to answer our questions then DON'T, but there is no need to insult us. I don't know if you noticed but they don't exactly have the mindshare or marketshare of other solutions and I don't think that is likely to change when people come here looking for answers and get nothing but grief. I've said it many times before...if you can't be constructive just don't say anything. You are poisoning this community with this nonsense. Zope X3 3.0.0 RC 2 released

Hello Zope community, The Zope 3 development team is proud to announce the second release candidate for Zope X3 3.0.0. Hopefully this will be the last one. Zope X3 is the next major Zope release and has been written from scratch based on the latest software design patterns and the experiences of Zope 2. The "X" in the name stands for "experimental", since this release does not try to provide any backward-compatibility to Zope 2. Downloads http://zope.org/Products/ZopeX3 Installation instructions for both Windows and Un*x/Linux are now available in the top level README.txt of the distribution. The binary installer is recommended for Windows. Changes since RC 1 - A security related bug was fixed. See the "Issue Collector":http://collector.zope.org/Zope3-Dev/286 for details. - Fixed a bug that would crash the API Doc tool, if no default skin was specified. - Fixed a couple of typos in the documentation. - Updated to latest version of the ZODB, version 3.3 final. - The 'zope.app.observable' package was removed from the release, since it was unusable. - The 'zope.app.i18nfile' package was removed, since it was always just a demo to demonstrate the internationalization of content. Using string as object name?

Hi, I'm trying to create a generic python script in Zope that will translate any SQL query into a dictionary. I've got it working when I put in the name of a specifc SQL query name, but I can't figure out the syntax/function to take a string that contains the ZSQL method name and use it in the code like I have below (which produces attribute errors): columns=2 # the number of columns needed query = "sql_getMySQL()" myObject = getattr(context,query) qresults=context.myObject.dictionaries() # this is done to get a real list return [qresults[index:index+columns] for index in range(0,len(qresults),columns)] Any suggestions? Should the ZPT list be retired?

The ZPT list was created when Page Templates were new and shiny, and there was a decent volume of discussion about their design and usage. These days, there are only sporadic non-spam postings, and all of those could probably live comfortably on either zope-general or zope-dev. Hi ! I get the error message again in Zope 2.7.1. Seems to be session error. Sessionmanager is say that "neworexisiting" key is not found, and make errors in transience module. But when I try to show anything to my boss with his IE, the Zope is "crashed". I say crashed, because I must restart it to work it again... (And the too many computer user use IE... :-( ) The 2.7.3b is buggy, so I don't have any chance, only downgrade. Please help me: Is the 2.6.4, or 2.6.3 is have this problem ? i18n ".pot" files: Edit with Web Application?

Hi, I am currently involved in a Zope project. Our Project needs to be internationalized, hence I took a look at the i18n layer. My problem now is that our translators are no programmers, hence they won't be able to edit the ".pot" files. (Maybe this sounds silly, but they do not close bracktes etc., therefore I have to check the files afterwards by hand which is very cumbersome). What I consider is presenting the translators a web application which reads the .pot file, presents the user the original translation including the file comments (so that people know where the text is situated) and displays some text fields where the user can input their special translation. There they can easily translate the messages and afterwards I only have to copy the ".pot" file to the right folder. What I wanted to know if perhaps someone wrote such a web application or something similar that I can use. If nothing like that exists, I consider writing this on my own, perhaps you have some helpfuls hints/suggestions what features the application should have and how one should implement this. What I moreover thought about if it's possible to present the user the actual page and let him somehow "click" on the messages which opens up a popup or something similar and lets him put in the translation directly. But maybe this is too complicated, moreover these translations would only apply to web pages and not to script messages. Calling an external method that is a xml-rpc client in javascript

I need to call a xml-rpc subroutine from javascript. How is this done? In my daemon I have subroutines such as emailInfo, officeInfo, pwdInfo,...
