How to I set a variable to forever ?

Hello ! I want to use a thing like "nonstopped", forever existing cookie. My site has two languages. When the user change the language, I must change it forever. I must store this value, example in cookie, and when he/she is return, I get back to his/her choosen language. But in Zope how to I create a cookie with no time limit ??? Zope X3 3.0.0 alpha 1 released

Dear Zope community, The Zope 3 development team is proud to announce the first alpha release of Zope X3 3.0.0. Zope X3 is the next major Zope release and has been written from scratch based on the latest software design patterns and the experiences of Zope 2. The "X" in the name stands for "experimental", since this release does not try to provide any backward-compatibility to Zope 2. Download http://zope.org/Products/ZopeX3 Distribution This release only requires Python 2.3.3 to run. Here are the steps envolved to get the tarball release working (will be later added to a readme file): - Unpack the release using:: tar xozf ZopeX3-3.0.0a1.tgz - Enter the new, unpacked directory and configure it:: ./configure --prefix=zope You might also need the '--with-python=<Python executable>', if your Python is not in a standard path. - Execute 'make' and 'make install'. - Enter the 'zope' directory and create an instance:: bin/mkzopeinstance -d<instance dir> -u<username>:<password> - Enter the instance directory and try to run zope using 'bin/runzope'. Features Some of the new features include: - Zope 3 uses now ZODB 3.3. - Implementation of multi-adapters and multi-views. Instead of adapting only from one interface to another, one can now adapt many interfaces to another. - Preconditions and constraints on methods are supported now. This allows one to specify the type of objects a container can contain, for example. - Broken objects are now supported, when a particular class of an object is not found anymore. - An API documentation tool was added to provide full online documentation of the public APIs and ZCML. Once Zope 3 has been started, it is accessible under: http://localhost:8080/++apidoc++/ - A stateful tree implementation was added. It makes a lot of use of the component architecture and is therefore extremly flexible and configurable. - Implemented "Tools", an UI concept similar to the CMF that allows the developer to be more task oriented. - The Undo mechanism was reworked. - The concept of usage was removed. - The widget and form code has been simplified and multi-item fields/widgets are now easier to use. - Support for sessions was added. - The entire source tree was flattened. Sessions and RAM cache managers causing memory leak

Hi, I have a website using CMF that uses sessions and a couple of RAM Cache Managers. There seems to be some problem between them and the data I am storing that is causing a huge memory leak (At times 300-400M of memory is chewed up in 10 minutes). My problem is how to track the problem down. I thought it would be simple process of running httperf and including/excluding things until I narrow it down. It hasn't been as simple as that, actually it has become very confusing... Zope Version: 2.6 Python: 2.1.3 CMF: 1.4.2 The session objects hold general data for the current user including; strings, lists, dictionaries and a datetime object. There are 2 RAM Cache Managers, one which caches for 15 mins and one for 24 hours. Both cache 20-30 DTML Methods or Python Scripts that return either lists, datetime objects, dictioneries, or rendered dtml. Some of the dtml calls the catalog multiple times, I can't see why, but would this be a problem? (I also tried changing everything to strings to see if it was a problem with caching objects like datetime and dictionaries, but no change) I created a test dtml method that creates a simple session (with a single string stored), and also calls all the methods/scripts that are cached. I then went about adding/removing these and running httperf to narrow down the problem. This is what happened calling the test method by httperf for approx 15 mins after restarting zope after each test (initial memory usage was 22M before running httperf)... Calling all methods/scripts being cached (no sessions created): 86M used at end of test. Calling the sessions only, creating a session for each call (no caching): 60M used at end of test. Calling cached methods/scripts and session creation together (this is everything): 471M used at end of test (usually more). Calling 15min cache objects and session creation (exclude 24hour cache objects): 192M used at end of test. Calling 24hour cache objects and session creation (exclude 15min cache objects): 159M used at end of test. I don't understand whats going on here. there seems no problem between the 2 RAM caches when you run them together. No problem with the session machinery when you create sessions by itself. but put everything together and it all goes very wrong! I would have thought if the caching on its own ends up at 86M and the sessions on their own end at 60M, then together i should expect around 140-150M. Any ideas of where I should be looking, something I am overlooking, or any known problems with cmf,caching,sessions that I should be aware of? Forcing a transaction to commit

Hi all, Is there a way using a python script to force a transaction to commit? For example, I would like to start a script by clicking a button on a page and then close my browser. The problem is that when the transaction can't complete due to the closed connection, everything gets rolled back. I would like for the script to run and then commit, regardless. Any ideas? lilpond-zope

Hi all, I am trying to set up a zope based web application which manages musical content, specifically lilypond notation, ogg-vorbis audio, midi, and information about these files (songs) I need a way to give users of the project a way to add, correct, edit etc. lilypond files. Lilypond is a text based ascii format for musical notation, so theoritcally a text box would be good enough. essentially I would like to give them two possibilities: 1. the ability to edit on the web page itself either: a.) with colorization, completion etc of common lilypond funtions. this is already available with vim and emacs, but I would like to add some of that functunality to a zope textbox. b.) A more graphical front end to lilypond where the user see's graphics of the various elements and clicks on them with the mouse (or uses a shortcut key) to add the elements to the page. 2. the ability to edit lilypond files remotely and upon save upload them to the zope server. In the above cases midi playback of the resulting files would take place by sending the file to the lilypond parser and playing the result in a midi player. How do I go about creating from scratch such an editing enviroment or modifying and existing one? Thanks Aaron

Hi Jan, Look at the source of your redirect page, and you'll see the urls for css and image files not having the 8080/hc addition. You should add an '/' to the redirect path. Without the trailing '/' only the "http://www.hepnetcanada.ca" url gets redirected, not the "http://www.hepnetcanada.ca/whatever" url's. so the correct redirection settings would be: <VirtualHost 142.104.61.63> ServerName www.hepnetcanada.ca Redirect / http://www.hepnetcanada.ca:8080/hc/ </VirtualHost> I'm not sure why it does work for other browsers than IE though, because this is a serverside redirect. Start Script

apache redirect to zope problem

Hi all, I've got apache set up on my server to redirect requests for http://www.hepnetcanada.ca to go to http://www.hepnetcanada.ca:8080/hc and by and large, this works. At least it does with mozilla, opera, etc... however when the request is redirected in internet explorer 6, the page renders without CSS formatting. (try it) Any idea why this happens, or how I can fix it? The apache redirect is very simple, i.e. <VirtualHost 142.104.61.63> ServerName www.hepnetcanada.ca Redirect / http://www.hepnetcanada.ca:8080/hc </VirtualHost> Any help would be appreciated.
