Zope install on Windows XP

OS: Windows XP Zope: Zope-2.7.2-0 Browser: IE 6. Problem: I installed zope but can’t connect with my web browser. Followed troubleshooting hints in ‘The Zope Book’ but still can’t connect. When I start zope manually it looks fine, no indication of trouble. Not sure how to get logging/debug information beyond the default event.log. Ideas on next steps? Thanks, Don

InvalidObjectReference strikes

Hello, Since a month or three, I am writing a transactional application using Zope and postgreSQL. My progress is not very high, because of learning Zope and its idiosyncracies, and because of our little daughter, born two months ago. However, I could see advancement in it. I am writing this as an MVC application, using events to find out which script to run, and a table driven screen flow manager to decide what should be the next screen. I very much like TAL, because it makes it possible for me to generate some default screens based upon the database table descriptions. In my application, I first need to build up my resulting data before I instantiate a screen from a template. Since I am only now beginning to add real functionality to my system (as previously making sure that my basic structure was allright), I only got now to the following problem. I need some 'batch' programming, for which I use a ZSQL object. I can query the object fine, but I cannot assign any part of the result into my session. Even if I try to copy separate fields from the result into another array, I always get the Error Type: InvalidObjectReference Error Value: Attempt to store an object from a foreign database connection error. Does anyone have a clue how I can copy the contents of the query result into a Python array or dictionary in Zope ? Regards, Jurgen

I *JUST* did that myself :) What I did: - configure and install the core Zope 2.7.2 - create a new 2.7.2 instance - copy over the products (Both core and instance) - edit the zope.conf - copy over the data.fs done! worked great for me. Possible incorrect http header "Last-Modified" with ExternalFile

Hi, I am not sure if this is the right place to ask this but I think I have found a possible problem with ExternalFile not returning the correct http header Last-Modified when linking to a gif file. This is in turn causing problems with caching. For example, the file weekly.gif is stored as an externalfile object in our web server. If you have any suggestions as to where the problem may lie I would be most appreciative. ZODB and persistent objects

I have searched and read a whole bunch of stuff on ZODB. Why do all the examples I can google for seem to resort to telling us how to implement ZODB externally from Zope? Where is some good old fashioned example code for implementing a simple collection of objects within Zope? I want to keep a small collection of data, the last 10 customer id's that were viewed/updated, with a timestamp and maybe a brief name field. This collection will be managed by an object that can do, eg. recentCust.Add(Customer_id, BriefName) recentCust.GetList() I thought rather than poking this small dataset into MySQL, I could just keep it in ZODB as a queue-type collection of data. What is the best approach for achieving this? Do I create a folder and store persistent objects in it of some kind, or are there more suitable built-in queue classes or dictionary type features already in the Zope API? -- Les Ferguson Software developer Waitakere, NZ

Howto Developement Environment?

Hello Zopistas... Please excuse the repost if it happens... sent question yesterday, and it did not make it to list.. Anyway, I have a productive zope application, one server. I have a backup (considering to use it as developement) machine, that I want to keep up-to-date. Before I go do something stupid, what is the listers expiriences developement/productin environments? How do you all do this? what procedures do you use? Jerry P.S. I already got burned by the zope versioning system once, so I would like to avoid it.

I am unclear on the upgrade process. I would like to upgrade from Zope 2.7 to 2.7.2. Platform is Fedora Core 1 with Python 2.3. installed. I have two directories /var/zope2.7 and /var/zope-instance I will install the new version to /var/zope2.7.2 How can I make use of my existing /var/zope-instance? fastcgi with zope

I'm trying to run zope behind apache using fastcgi, but I'm having a problem setting up the directive properly. Zope 2.7 w/Plone 2, Apache 2, FastCGI 2.4.2, Macintosh OS X Server Apache error log shows Connection refused: FastCGI: failed to connect to server "/Library/WebServer/Documents/zope": connect() failed FastCGI: incomplete headers (0 bytes) received from server "/Library/WebServer/Documents/zope" Access log shows "GET /zope HTTP/1.1" 302 299 My DocumentRoot in httpd.conf is /tmp but OS X Server uses vhosting for all sites, and within the vhost, the DocumentRoot is /Library/WebServer/Documents. Here's how I have the config files set up. In httpd.conf, right after the ServerName configuration: ## FastCgiExternalServer /Library/WebServer/Documents/zope \ -host localhost:8889 \ -pass-header Authorization <Location /zope> SetHandler fastcgi-script </Location> ## As suggested in the fastcgi documentation, /zope is a file that does not exist. Error with installing zope 2.7.2

Hello, I did a new try to install Zope 2.7.2. But i'm getting a error with I can't explain. TypeError: unsupported operand type(s) for +: 'NoneType' and 'str' (This is the same error I get whem I want to install PIL.) Problem with external editor - SOS 2

Hi ! I need to work in new place, with an old windows 98 machine. I installed zope, and I installed zope external editor, and editor product. Ok. But I have a problem in this type of OS. When I try to edit something, it is makes an error like this: FATAL ERROR [ERRNO 2] No such file or directory: '~\\ZopeEdit.ini' I try to place the ZopeEdit.ini in another directories, like C:\, C:\WINDOWS, but I has been failed. I everything do like in XP/2000, so I don't make mistake. ZopeEdit.ini has placed in dir of zopeedit.exe, so it must to find by exe, but it hasn't happening. Why ? Please help me !
