acquisition context within product method

Hello All: Do any of you have an idea about how to solve the followong problem: I am working on creating a zope product that uses multiple DTML pages to gather information from the user before actually constructing the product class, sort of like a 'wizard' interface. I am pretty new to this, so please bear with me. The idea is that __init__.py exposes the appropriate DTML form for step 1 in the process, as well as the relevant module level function, e.g., def initialize(context): context.registerClass(module.class, permission="Add class_name", constructors=(module.Step1Form, module.Step1Func)) Step1Func would then return another DTML page/form called Step2Form Step2Form gets more info from the user and calls Step2Func Step2Func processes the returned info and in turn returns StepFinalForm StepFinalForm calls StepFinalFunc which actually instantiates the class and does self._setObject and all of that good stuff. Using this approach, I get through Step1Form and Step1Func OK, but when Step1Func attempts to return Step2Form, it appears to have no acquisition context and returns KeyErrors like: Error Type: KeyError Error Value: standard_html_header . . .or AttributeErrors like: Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: aq_parent For example: #This is a module to create an object in steps from OFS.SimpleItem import SimpleItem from Globals import DTMLFile Step1Form = DTMLFile("dtml/Step1Form", globals()) Step2Form = DTMLFile("dtml/Step2Form", globals()) StepFinalForm = DTMLFile("dtml/StepFinalForm", globals()) def Step1Func(self, REQUEST): """This is the doc string""" request = REQUEST . . .more code in here. . . return Step2Form(self, request) def Step2Func(self, REQUEST): """This is the doc string""" request = REQUEST . . .yet more code. . . return StepFinalForm(self, request) def StepFinalFunc(self, REQUEST): """This is the doc string""" request = REQUEST . . .and yet more code. . newClass=someClass(id, title, moreArgs) self._setObject(id, newClass) return self.manage_main(self, request) To make a long story even longer. . .is there a way to wrap a returned DTML document in an intact acquisition context? I've tried .__of__(self) tacked on to the return statement but it seems as if it is the 'self' object that lacks an acquisition context. I've also tried making the DTML an attribute of a class that inherits from SimpleItem, which gives the KeyError on standard_html_header (incidentally, none of the DTML includes references to standard_html_anything). If anyone knows of a product that uses a multi-step construction process prior to instantiation and ZODB storage I'd love to see how it works. Thanks for any thoughts. Richard

In my particular case I am trying to combine the result sets from two different search on two different zcatalogs (ie. not two different searches of the same zcatalog). In this case the RIDs do not match (each zcatalog maintains its own RIDs). I am doing this to try to squeeze out some performance improvements from a ZCTextIndex. We have a zcatalog with about 1 million documents that we are full-text indexing and it no longer fits into memory (therefore requiring many disk i/o's during retrieval which is seriously degrading performance). Our zcatalog currently has 5 indexes: 4 minor indexes and one major index (the main ZCTextIndex). I am attempting to split the zcatalog into two separate zcatalogs: one containing the 4 minor indexes and one containing the ZCTextIndex. The hope is that the zcatalog containing only the ZCTextIndex will be smaller and will again fit into memory. The only difficulty is in combining the results from searches of two separate zcatalogs in an efficient manner. My best guess at this point is that I will have to patch the 'search' routine in ZCTextIndex to stop it from 'Lazifying' the result sets, so that I can join/intersect the result sets based on OIDs (instead of RIDs - which should be doable as the result sets prior to 'lazifying' are xxBTrees and the BTrees product comes with methods for join/intersection). I can then 'Lazify' the final result set and return it. At least that's the theory! Thanks again for you reponse, Jonathan

September Bug Day Roundup

Hi All, Well, it looks like another bumper crop, not quite eclipsing the 60 issues in July's bug day, but still, 32 issues got dealt with including 9 resolved issues. 2 of those had seen lots of work throughout the month and it was great to finally put them to bed. Session stuff and what-happens-to-transactions-when-errors-get-handled-by-ZPublisher both seem to have been resolved, and make 2.7.3 quite a compelling prospect once Andreas gets a chance to release it. Searching for a variable from ZPT.

Is their an easy way to search for a var in REQUEST? In my ZPT I have a look in REQUEST.SESSION, options and REQUEST.form for a var; it can get passed in several ways depending on what calls the ZPT. I would like one clean way. Not three conditions in my ZPT. Any ideas?

smpthost or dtml tag problems

reloading a pop-up box

This is probably outside the scope of this discussion forum but perhaps someone has some experience with this. I have a dhtml pop-up box that contains a form that calls a dtml method that calls a python script. I notice that I can't seem to reload only the content within the pop-up box. I have been using this <dtml-call expr="RESPONSE.redirect(URL1 + '/index_html')"> but would rather reload the box and not the whole page. Any ideas?

ExternalEditor has a mind of its own

I have just installed ExternalEditor on my Win XP Pro system, and it seems to be ignoring the settings in my ZopeEdit.ini file. Instead, it insists on opening Python Scripts in IDLE (not the registered application for .py files on my system) and Page Templates in Microsoft Word (again, not the registered application for .html files on my system), and setting WebDAV locks even though I explicitly disabled this behavior.
