Can Zope 2.9 Coexist With Zope 2.6 Using Different Ports?

My website GoodbyeJim.com currently runs Zope 2.6 on Red Hat 7.3. I have installed Zope 2.9 to use port 3200 instead of 80. Does Zope 2 support running two separate instances of two versions of Zope on different ports? I have been able to run Zope 3 concurrently with Zope 2.6 without problem. When I run bin/runzope in my Zope 2.9 home directory I get the following error on lock_file.py line 60: IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '.../Data.fs.lock'

Zope on a shared host behind Apache?

Hello, I've just tried to install zope on a shared host which is run by an Apache server. I have seen on the net, that there are 3 possibilities to run Zope together with Apache: rewrite_rules, ProxyPass and FastCGI. As far as I've seen, all of these 3 modules are already installed on the server. However, I think that you need to have root/superuser/...-privileges in order to use one of these methods, right? Unfortunately, I don't have any of those privileges... I only have write-access to my personal home-directory. Do you have an idea what Icould do instead? (That's my guess, but it depends on how you've installed things.) But it's certainly possible. optional arguments to zsql methods

I am importing a large data set via Zope into a Postgres database. Data items may or may not exist so I am using the optional argument in the zsql methods. What I want is that if the data is missing the database inserts default values. However, if type="string", the absent data item is rendered as '' if type="nb", the absent data item is rendered as 'Null' In either case this does not allow default values to be inserted. I can insert the defaults by doing this: .....ZSQL..... snip..... <dtml-if surnamefirst> <dtml-sqlvar surnamefirst type="string"> , <dtml-else> DEFAULT, </dtml-if> With 20 or so inserts in one query this gets messy and could be slow? if this method has to be called many times on one import cycle. My question is therefore is there a cleaner way of doing this or am I on the right track? Regards Garry

Haj, myBannerProduct 1.0 won´t install properly on Zope 2.7.4/SuSE9.3. After untar and Restart of Zope there is only an empty myBannerProduct Folder in "Installed Products". Granting access by reading http headers

We're running Plone for internal departmental use. I'm going to lock down most of the content, requiring a login to view sensitive documents. But I also want our Google Mini appliance to crawl all content. The problem is that the appliance does not accept cookies. So Plone and Zope don't recognize a user account as the crawler attempts to move through links. I am thinking of granting the Google Mini appliance "transparent" access by reading the http headers of incoming requests and granting access if: - the header includes the correct client string AND - The IP address of the requesting machine is owned by the Google Mini host. Questions: 1) Is this approach viable? (What are the pitfalls?) 2) What python module is consulted to determine access rights when a page request is made? 2) Is this difficult to implement if one has rudimentary Python skills? (Or is there already sample code out there to do something like this? I couldn't find any.)

The Zope Software Certification Program and Common Repository Proposal

Hello everyone, With the development of Zope 3, the Zope developers committed to a new development process and higher software quality guidelines. With the adoption of Zope 3 technologies in the wider Zope community, we should also start using the process for third party package development. I have spent the last two weeks working on a proposal that defines a Zope Software Certification Program (ZSCP) and a Common Repository that implements this process. The proposal is attached to this mail. I welcome any comments about it! In the pre-publication phase of the proposal, I have worked with a small committee to receive initial feedback. For the purpose of this proposal, I will not be representing a particular Zope sub-community, but instead act as a mediator among the parties of interest. I will try my best to answer all concerns and comments in a neutral manner. I would like to thank all pre-proposal committee members for their time and valuable input. Thanks for your time! Five defaultView and REQUEST.URL0

Hi I've created simple view that just displays few lines of text (with national characters) and URL of the current page (which is received by call to my product method (code below)). I'm using UTF-8. I've used REQUEST.URL0 to generate url. The problem is when I'm accessing my object via it's name (I'mean when defaultView is used) like: http://localhost:8080/my_problem_object I get: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xc4 in position 154: ordinal not in range(128) Suprisingly to me when I'm using: http://localhost:8080/my_problem_object/@@test_uni everything works correclty. Without national characters in Page Template it works OK. When I'm not using self.REQUEST.URL0 it works correctly too. When I use str(self.REQUEST.URL0) everything is good again. Can somebody tell me whether I'm doing something in a wrong way, or maybe it is a bug or feature? I dont understand why there is such a difference between view and default view? LocalFS problem

Hi, I'm using LocalFS 1.7rc? and Zope 2.8.? in a Suse system. More importantly for this case, zope is behind Apache 1.39 with module NTLM, through FastCGI, and users folder is a RemoteUserFolder. mod_rewrite and Virtual Host Monster is being used do do some URL rewriting. When I access a file in a LocalFS folder I get the following info, instead of the pdf file (in this case): <open file '/work/docs/MyFile.PDF', mode 'rb' at 0x42310974>. The same file in another folder behind Apache+NTLM works fine. The LocalFS folder accessed in the past through Apache+mod_rewrite without NTLM+RemoteUserFolder used to work fine. The same file in LocalFS accessed through zope directly (another port; no apache) is delivered fine. So, the combination Apache+NTLM+FastCGI+RemoteUserFolder with LocalFS isn't working well. The only clue I have is that I get the file object description rather than the file itself. Any hints? TIA, Fernando
