cant log in using userinit user and logging issue

zope-2.8.8 freebsd-4.11 I am setting up zope for the first time and I still cannot log into to zope. I set the username password in the inituser file and placed it in the /usr/local/www/Zope dir I even regenerated the file and still I am not able to get in. is there any logging I can turn on to really show what is going on here. I see that the Z2.log file is scrolling but there is nothing to say there is an erorr and why the authentication is failing? clues please? here is my current zope.conf logging: --- snip --- <eventlog> level info <logfile> path $INSTANCE/log/event.log level info </logfile> </eventlog> <logger access> level WARN <logfile> path $INSTANCE/log/Z2.log format %(message)s </logfile> </logger> <logger trace> level WARN <logfile> path $INSTANCE/log/trace.log format %(message)s </logfile> </logger> ---s nip --- cheers, Noah

If that attribute is callable, the index calls it, so it executes the code. That may have side effects not originally forseen because the original code never anticipated being indexed. This can happen when the attribute name can mean different things in different contexts. problems with non ascii char from an xml export

hi there, I try to read data from an xml export back into zope. however I have problems with non ascii chars. in the xml pickle I have a string like so: "dann \xfcberhaupt den zu \xfcbernehmenden" this sems to be an latin1 encoded string. whatever I try I do not get it converted such, that it is represented correctly in zope. what I would like to do is to store it in an CMF objext as description, and then retrieve it as object.description() in a template. thanks a lot for any pointer. robert

default webpage after External Method script executed

Hi! My simple webpage for submitting files is ok. It calls a External Method script to do all the dirty job. However, I am running out of ideas of how to get back to my default submitting web page after submitting a file (and thus execute the script). Any idea would be very welcome. Thanks in advance. I'm trying to get a handle on Zope and don't understand the rational behind the manage_changeProperties() method. Why, given an object called myObject with a title property, can I not change the title by saying simply: myObject.title='The new title'

Garito, please reread Andreas words. They are wisdom of the masters and not to be ignored. What would you want to catalog from the Page Template? The <html>, <body> and <div> tags? The tal:content attributes? Not these? But there is nothing else in there. There should be *no* content in the page template. If there is then *you are doing something wrong* and you will pay a heavy price down the road. Stop what you are doing and think about doing it in a better way. Regards, Sascha

ExternalFile - getting back the file

Hi :-) I'm using the ExternalFile product: http://www.zope.org/Members/arielpartners/ExternalFile because I need to have a file both in ZMI, as well as in filesystem. I would like to ask if anyone can tell me how to get back the file that ExternalFile was created from, having only the object? In fact I do not need the file itself, but tha data (bytes) that were inside. I would be very grateful for any help. Best regards, Maciej Zieba
