RE: [Zope] changing port from 9673 default
by George Perry 08 Nov '03

08 Nov '03

Dylan: Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried that unsuccessfully, but I was trying to redirect to the privileged port 80 - which Jamie Heilman has told me will not work unless I run Zope as root. This had worked when I had earlier installed the Linux version of Zope linked to at Zope.org. The Debian Zope packager appears to be working to make the Zope server controlled in a fashion similar to the method used by Apache. Try this: $ locate z2.py Last time I checked, Debian put Zope in /usr/lib/zope Once you've found that, open it up and look for this line: HTTP_PORT=9673 Which you change to: HTTP_PORT=8080 And restart Zope. Tracking upload of files to Zope
by Gitte Wange 08 Nov '03

08 Nov '03

Hello, Sorry if I post to a wrong list - if that is the case, please tell me where to post instead. I have one huge problem with Zope: It's impossible to track how far an upload of a file to Zope is :-(( It seems like Zope "blocks" untill a file is uploaded to Zope making it impossible to tell how many bytes has been transfered or similar. Is it me that hasn't got a clue on how the HTTP protocol works or is it a "bad implementation" of file uploads in Zope ? I kinda hoped I could create some sort of "wait page" when users upload files to my website ... it's big files (video files) so it takes some time and therefor it would be really great to be able to display a wait page to people. -- Gitte Wange Technical Manager Email: gitte(a)mmmanager.org Web: http://www.mmmanager.org Tlf: +45 36 46 20 02 (On the statement print "42 monkeys"+"1 snake") BTW, both perl and Python get this wrong. Perl gives 43 and Python gives "42 monkeys1 snake", when the answer is clearly "41 monkeys and 1 fat snake". -- Jim Fulton, 10 Aug 1999

RE: [Zope] changing port from 9673 default
by George Perry 08 Nov '03

Dylan: I installed Zope using apt-get from Debian testing. I am using the Libranet distribution. I don't have a /etc/conf.d directory. When I invoke "locate zope|grep conf", I do not see anything that looks like a application configuration file. The debian Zope application documentation points to /etc/zopectl/zopectlrc as the Zope application configuration file. This file has a line which appears to be setting the Zope server port to the Debian Zope package default 9f 9673. However, changing the 9673 value and restarting Zope has no affect on port redirection - the Zope default welcome page is still available only on the 9673 port. Mr. Cooper's suggestion to use iptables to accomplish port redirection meets my needs while I work out the wrinkles involved with putting Zope behind a proxy web server. The only other issue is if I should submit a Debian package bug report. I am new to Debian, and I am hesitant to do this - but that is probably an issue for another forum. If this is a package installation, your port might be hard-coded somewhere such as /etc/conf.d/zope. FWIW, Dylan

VarImage, Problems with uploaded files.
by Edward Pollard 08 Nov '03

08 Nov '03

Good afternoon all, I would like to use the VarImage product as part of a "notice board" project. Different ways data is access demand different sizes for the graphics, and the VarImage product seems to be the right tool for the task...almost. These will be graphics uploaded by the end user via a form, and I've encountered two problems where it seems VarImage ate my Zope server, presumably due to "bad input". 1) A huge JPG (~10MB) was uploaded. The server then died. 2) A bitmap was uploaded instead of a jpg/gif. The server then died. Both scenarios are repeatable, but by no means are my diagnosis skills sophisticated to comment any further on what's going on. So as a preamble to my actual question I'd welcome advice on how to more properly figure out whats going on here. It seems that processing threads are getting sent off into the wild blue yonder and never ever coming back. I figure the only way I can use VarImage for my needs is if I make sure that files are <500k and if they are actually gifs of jpegs. So my *actual* question is: How can I tell if an uploaded file is a gif or a jpg? I know I'll probably need to look at the first 4 bytes for some kind of code, but I don't know what that is (nor exactly how to do it) and am dead certain that someone out there has done this already. manage_clone gave KeyError: 'validate'
by Lee Harr 07 Nov '03

Hi; After upgrading from 2.4 to 2.6.1 one of my pages stopped working... it is a DTML Method which calls a python script which calls manage_clone. The error I was getting was in OFS/DTMLMethod.py ... something like: KeyError: 'validate' I can't get the exact message because... well. Here is what I did. I changed OFS/DTMLMethod.py : ===================================== # diff -u OFS/DTMLMethod.py.orig OFS/DTMLMethod.py --- OFS/DTMLMethod.py.orig Fri Nov 7 17:53:01 2003 +++ OFS/DTMLMethod.py Fri Nov 7 17:44:11 2003 @@ -132,7 +132,10 @@ finally: security.removeContext(self) if first_time_through: - del self.__dict__['validate'] + try: + del self.__dict__['validate'] + except KeyError: + pass have_key=RESPONSE.headers.has_key if not (have_key('content-type') or have_key('Content-Type')): ========================================== I restarted the server and my page started working again. Then I decided to go back and get the exact error message to post it here.... except now with the old file back in place it still works! TypeError: 'in <string>' requires character as left operand
by Gordon Sullivan 07 Nov '03

07 Nov '03

Hi, I seem to have messed up my Plone real good. I'm not sure, but I think what I did to cause this was clicking the drop-down on the preferences screen for the editor. There was only one selection, 'None'. Now if I try to access /folder_contents for any folder, it gives me a Site error and the message: "'in ' requires character as left operand". I'm running the windoze install-shield version of plone [ (Zope 2.6.1 (binary release, python 2.1, win32-x86), python 2.1.3, win32)] on my computer at work. I just started showing my managers how cool Plone is today, so of course I had to break it... 8~[ I've googled and seen references such as these: (http://mail.zope.org/pipermail/zope-cmf/2003-April/018187.html) <snip> > The simplest thing possible is to add another check > on line line 174 in TypesTool.py > > if not self.allowed_content_types: return 0 </snip> And also this: (http://copilotconsulting.com/mail-archives/zope.2003/11509.html) <snip> Figuring this out was the hard part. Fixing it was easy: Zope provides a simple 'argument conversion' facility. Adding ':list' to the addForm HTML form ensures that the multiple field value(s) will always be treated as a Python list, even if the multiple field only had a single value. To illustrate the fix (similar to the one I made in my 'addForm' HTML), assume the line with the problem property was: <input type="checkbox" name="choices" value="choice_one" /> Change it to the following, which - via ':list' - ensures the Zope argument conversion of 'choices' so that it is always a list: <input type="checkbox" name="choices:list" value="choice_one" /> </snip> I've also read Issue 1336 (http://plone.org/collector/1336/ISSUE_TRANSCRIPT/view) of Issue Collector [Plone] that discusses this problem, and now I remember experimenting with the 'Allow Discussion' checkbox at some point... Maybe that's what caused it? I'm not sure what to make of things because I'm pretty new to the guts of Zope and Plone. Whatever I did to cause this problem I did from the user interface of plone, not the ZMI or editing python files. If it will help I can send the traceback from the Site error log. Does anyone know what the fix for this is? Thanks so much, Gordon Sullivan

APE/DBTab Help
by Charlie Jones 07 Nov '03

07 Nov '03

I've been trying to get these to work but I'm not having much luck. I have a large set of static HTML files that I would like to serve from the file system. From what I understand, I should be able to do this with these products. Would someone be able to help me with the dbtab.conf file. The location of the HTML files is /home/zope/html. I am looking for the functinality of something like LocalFS. The files will remain static. The end goal is to integrate these into Plone. Any help would be great. Thanks. charlie jones

Cataloging a ZSQL database
by Clara Baiget 07 Nov '03

07 Nov '03

Hi, I am a fairly new user to zope, and although I know the basics, I am having problems trying to catalog a zsql database. Fortunately I found this Ho-to on the Zope site, which explains how to do this: http://www.my-zope.org/HowtosRating/20020109160026 But following their example, when I create the getBooksToCatalog method, Test then hit the "Submit Query" button, I get the following error: Error, exceptions.SyntaxError: unexpected token sequence.near :: ', Title,\nconcat'*'(Description, T' ******************************* current state = 45 expects: '.', ('nomatch1',) current token = ((- 6, '('), '(') when I remove the following line, it returns results: concat(Description, Title, Author) as PrincipiaSearchSource, however after this point if I remove this line and proceed to catalogBooks and "Test" I get the following error: Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: catalog_object I would be very grateful for any help, as I'm completely stuck on this - even an example zexp file of this or a similar implementation would be hugely appreciated.... Many thanks in desperation, Clara _________________________________________________________________ Charla con tus amigos en línea mediante MSN Messenger: http://messenger.yupimsn.com/
