Hello, I have an instance of LeakFinder 0.1.1 running. Someone else installed it there so I'm not sure if it ever worked. ZEO Install Questions
by Joe Toon 06 Nov '03

I am trying to install ZEO 2.0b3 on a fresh copy of Zope 2.6.2. I installed Zope 2.6.2 successfully and I am able to get to the ZMI. I installed ZEO per the instructions in the Zope Book but when I go to start, it does the following: bash-2.05b$ python lib/python/ZEO/start.py -D -p 7700 Traceback (most recent call last): File "lib/python/ZEO/start.py", line 356, in ? main(sys.argv) File "lib/python/ZEO/start.py", line 222, in main zdaemon.run(sys.argv, env.zeo_pid) File "/usr/local/testsetup/Zope-2.6.2-src/lib/python/zdaemon/Daemon.py", line 59, in run write_pidfile(pidfile) File "/usr/local/testsetup/Zope-2.6.2-src/lib/python/zdaemon/Daemon.py", line 93, in write_pidfile pf = open(pidfile, 'w+') IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/usr/local/testsetup/Zope-2.6.2-src/var/ZEO_SERVER.pid' bash-2.05b$ Traceback (most recent call last): File "lib/python/ZEO/start.py", line 235, in main ImportError: No module named StorageServer I added the lib/python path to PYTHONPATH variable (export PYTHONPATH="/usr/local/testsetup/Zope-2.6.2/lib/python") with the same results. Authentication problems with Zfile
by Sherman Lambert 06 Nov '03

06 Nov '03

I have an intranet that has been running for several years. Last summer I upgraded to zope 2.6.1. I have recently had users having trouble accessing some Zclass objects (for viewing). For some reason zope is requesting authentication (pop's up the username and password request). As best as I can tell it will not take any username (w/ password), and authenticate it. BUT... if the user cancels the authentication dialog, the everything proceeds as normal (like expected before the authentication dialog poped up). All of the Zclasses in which this probem arises have a base class of ZFile. I created a ZFile object, and it to exhibits this problem. I am confused. Shouldn't zope toss me to a "tried to access an unauthorized object" page? Using the error log I have found that the user is requesting //zope_path/ZFile_object/LOCK. It seems resonable that the LOCK (method?) is causing the problem. Is there some way to make the object call not use LOCK? Has anyone had a simular problem? Any suggestions? TIA Sherman

Timeout in sessions ?
by Gitte Wange 06 Nov '03

06 Nov '03

Hello, I have implemented session-based login in a CMF site. Everything works - untill we change the timeout in the Session Data Container. Not that anything fails - but the timeout isn't changing. I change the default value of 20 minutes to 120 minutes. But after some time it's back to 20 minutes .. Anyone else who has experienced this behaviour ? -- Gitte Wange Technical Manager Email: gitte(a)mmmanager.org Web: http://www.mmmanager.org Tlf: +45 36 46 20 02 Python 2.0 beta 1 is now available from BeOpen PythonLabs. There is a long list of new features since Python 1.6, released earlier today. We don't plan on any new releases in the next 24 hours. -- Jeremy Hylton, in the 2.0b1 announcement, 5 Sep 2000

Python Script: excape problem /kv
by Kai Vermehr 06 Nov '03

06 Nov '03

I'm working through an example in the Zope Book and I want to display a random image inside the folder 'images'. But instead of a picture I get the source with all the tags escaped. I have this Python script named 'randomImage': ------------------------------------ import random return random.choice(context.objectValues('Image')) ------------------------------------ I have this body in a ZPT named 'use_randomImage': ------------------------------------ <body> <span tal:replace="here/images/randomImage">image</span> </body> ------------------------------------ And I get this generated source w escaped tags (body) when I call the ZPT: ------------------------------------ <body> <img src="http://www.mycomputer.local/images/deck_mika.gif" alt="deck_mika.gif" title="deck_mika.gif" height="142" width="35" border="0" /> </body> ------------------------------------ of course I want the image instead of escaped html ... any ideas what I'm doing wrong? thanks! Re: zsyncer 0.5beta error
by David Vogel 06 Nov '03

hello Paul, >>I also used the patch at >>http://www.dieter.handshake.de/pyprojects/zope/#bct_sec_5.3 >>to be able to sync plone folders as well > > > i need to merge that with the zsyncer sources, i keep forgetting... > BTW: there's a variable missing on the patch for the file ZSyncer.py: filterObjects correct: + def manage_editServer(self, title='', dest=None, log=0, approval=0, override=0, user='', pwd='', logfile='', REQUEST=None, syncable=syncable, filterObjects=0, add_syncable=[]): another remark concerning the rekursive searching mode: set up: - (source) machine 1: folder a, subfolder b, sub-subfolder c - (dest.) machine 2: folder a, subfolder b, (sub-subfolder c missing here) starting zsyncer on folder a: if I select 'recursive comparison mode' and as status filter only 'missing', I don't get the correct answer, even if I got missing SUBFOLDERS on the destination machine. ... since there are no missing folders on level 1, the recursive search stops here. so, it would be better that the script searches first like the users didn't deselect any status filters, get result 1, and applies the filters of the user to result 1. cheers, david.

syntax coloring w BBEdit>FTP>Zope /kv
by Kai Vermehr 06 Nov '03

06 Nov '03

just connected with Zope through FTP using BBEdit (OS X). Since the files on Zope have no file suffix, syntax coloring does not work when I open them with BBEdit. Is there a workaround for this? Thanks! -- 'K:) -- Kai Vermehr | eBoy http://www.eboy.com

Re: [Zope] Linux distributions for Zope Servers
by Heimo Laukkanen 06 Nov '03

So Suse is preferred choise for atleast few Zopistas. But does Suse have a good updating system similar to Redhat Network? I'm just thinking about maintenance and management of multiple servers and also cases where potential customers manage their servers on their own - possibly with very limited Linux knowledge and experience. Is there anything else comparable to RH Network or Mac Os X support and ease of maintenance? .. and that is also reliable and has a future ... -- -huima

RE: Linux distributions for Zope Servers
by Roel Van den Bergh 06 Nov '03

I share the same feelings as Dennis. Currently we're running one production server with Rh 7.3 (an upgrade from 7.2 because we needed large file support, without erasing existing data, which took us several days to get the server back online) It probably is virtual impossible to switch between distro's (Rh -> Debian) without having to install everything from scratch ... Simple question(s): Backing up Data.fs on RH and copying to another distro, does that break anything? And if one switches from ext3 to Reiser? > ------------------------------ > > Message: 31 > Date: Wed, 5 Nov 2003 21:13:07 +0100 > From: Dieter Maurer <dieter(a)handshake.de> > Subject: Re: [Zope] Linux distributions for Zope Servers > To: Dennis Allison <allison(a)sumeru.stanford.EDU> > Cc: zope(a)zope.org > Message-ID: <16297.22995.965842.962014(a)gargle.gargle.HOWL> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii > > Dennis Allison wrote at 2003-11-3 22:04 -0800: > > ...
