delete 'Data.fs.lock'
by Justin Xi ZHU 28 Oct '03

28 Oct '03

Hi all, I tried to install two Zope products on the same computer. One of them didn't stop cleanly. From then on, when I try to run the other product. The error message appeared. ' Could not lock the database file. There must be another process that has opened the file. ' I made sure all other processes are closed. The message still appeared. With the assistance of a member of the list, we isolated the problem to the Zope product that didn't stop cleanly, locked the 'Data.fs.lock' file and failed to delete it. We need to delete it manually. However, when I try to delete it. This error message appeared. ' Cannot delete Data.fs: It is being used by another or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again. ' Again, I closed all applications. The error persists. Regards, Justin

BTreeFolder2 or no
by Rob Boyd 28 Oct '03

28 Oct '03

I'm putting a customized CMFCollector into production, and wonder whether it would be worth the time to have it use CMFBTreeFolder2 instead of SkinnedFolder. Since CMFCollector's user interface displays its contents through a catalog search instead of hitting every object, I don't know if it could even be an issue. I'm curious about the claim "but it [Zope] has trouble storing a lot of objects in a single standard folder" on Shane's page -- any clarification of that? My site will most likely have fewer than thousands, and certainly fewer than tens of thousands, of issues submitted. So, worth the time, or just go with the default? autologin with CookieCrumbler
by Sebastian Krollmann 28 Oct '03

28 Oct '03

Hi, as suggested in previous postings, I tried to log in via setting 2 cookies named ' __ac_name' and '__ac_password' providing username and password-info with CookieCrumbler. But despite I can verify the two cookies in the request, I get the loginform from CookieCrumbler and some query string in the url with something like 'disable_login=1'. Looking into the CookieCrumbler-Code it seems that this should be possible as the request is searched for the two cookies prior showing the loginform. Has anybody done this so far or are there any does and dont's to achiev this? thanks a lot, SK

ZSQL: how to definde null
by Christoph Landwehr 28 Oct '03

28 Oct '03

If posted twice: please excuse (mailserver problem at ISP) Hi , I have a ZSQL method, that looks like Attributes: some_name='empty' UPDATE foo SET bar = <dtml-sqlvar some_name type="string"> WHERE some contitions ... ; But when the variable "some_name" not is passed to the ZSQL method I don't want to have 'empty' in my db but a null value. So I changed the method to SET bar = <dtml-if "some_name=='empty'">null<dtml-else><dtml-sqlvar some_name type="string"></dtml-if> Maybe the is a more elegant way, like setting the default to null, so I can get rid of the if clause. Thanx for any hints! Regards Christoph

Re: Zope server stopped today. Why?

I just found it's not that different from unix/linux, you have to put the following at the begining of your start.bat script: SET STUPID_LOG_FILE=C:\Program Files\zope\var\zope.log By the way, if you still want to have a command prompt windows with the last errors occured, then you have to install "tail for windows" and use it with the "zope.log". I found once two versions. They weren't as as nice as the unix/linux one, but they did their work. The Z2.log won't give you many clues. It only shows you the hits to your server, but not the exceptions occured. > Where should I look? > How could this be avoided/prevented? You should setup a log file for your zope in order to see what the problem is. I don't know how to do it on windows, but I think this has being discussed before. You have to search perhaps for STUPID_LOG + Windows. However, if I not bad and you're using zope 2.7.x, this procedure was made plattform independent, you only have to modify a config file. RE: [ZODB-Dev] RE: [Zope] Analyzing ZODB objects

It's just all things considered, it's very complicated; - It is, by nature, not easy to debug memory usage of Python applications - It is even harder to debug systems with persistent objects and classes that evolve - It is much harder still to debug big (and complex) systems that are not very well documented It would be good to have better tools (e.g., DB admin tool) and more docs (which I guess the archived version of this thread is helping with), especially since Zope+ZODB is a platform, not a one-off application. I'm aware Zope is open source and I should contribute code, not complaints. Apologies :) I've used Zope/Python for a while, and I'm not about to switch. Bye, -- Bjorn

Zope server stopped today. Why?
by Goran Christiansson 28 Oct '03

Hi, I manage a small Zope/Plone site for our lab, and this morning the server stopped, and I would like to know why, and how to prevent this in the future. We run: Plone 1.05 Windows "standard install" package on a Win2k machine. I looked in z2.log and there was no activity between the last restart of the server (4pm this morning for the nightly backups) and this morning 9pm when the service just was not running. Where should I look? How could this be avoided/prevented? Grateful for any tips! Goran

I have had one strange case where I could not delete a locked file but was able to rename it, after which I could delete it (I do not think this was Zope-related, though I cannot remember the details any more)! Cheers, Tom P
